Deep within the Gunsmoke facility, in the section given to the Soviet Empath, Yuri, his laboratory of metal and brick was illuminated by a soft glow, which flickered every so often, but returned.
"There's...*CLICK*... Nothing... *CLICK*... On...*CLICK*... " complained the animated sentience, Esper, upon her custom sofa. Another bon-bon floated into the air, only to meet its doom as she chomped into it. She turned her attention to the development tank in the corner, where her body was developing in a growth chamber. Within its murky depths, the developing body of the Esper organism posed an oddly familiar question... "You have the entirety of the Nexus on Lightfoot Television, and..."
The animated sentience turned off the television, "Yeah..." it admitted, "Nothing's on." She hovered over to the tank, and put a paw against the glass. The bioform within pressed its paw against the glass, an entire world separated them, even though the glass was but a half-inch thick.
"I can't wait to be born." The bioform spoke, its voice a telepathic chorus of ideas and desires. "There's so much out there just waiting. The smell of the air, the feel of the grass, and of course, lots of cake." The animated sentience smiled it's cutest smile, "Absolutely. Cake is one of the best parts of the Nexus. There's an otter that thinks it's all about Chocolate Chip cookies, but nothing really takes the cake over.... well.... cake!"
The bioform smiled back. It's not really as cute when you're not finished developing, but it's the idea that counts, "What about chocolate chip cake? They have that, right?" to which the Animated sentience perked up, and gave the computer terminal a glance.
Keys pushed in at a dizzying speed as the animated telekinetisist typed in her request in Nexugal... the Diginet Café Menu. "Hmmmm.... no... no...nono.... no no no... no.... I know..." and she fired off an email to Spencer. "Spencer is the greatest! She and father are really good friends, and she packs away Banana Nut muffins and coffee for me and everything."
"Do you think Father likes her?" The developing bioform askes. This stops the typing, as the animated sentience looks around the laboratory, "You know, I don't know. Father and I share a lot of the same thoughts, but the heart and the mind, well, they're different. Father's been through a lot... the German Invasion... the French Initiative... Sunrise at Midnight... lots and lots of really really bad things."
"Maybe he thinks of the Nexus as a way to make things right?" The bioform askes. This gets the Animated Sentience thinking, "You know, I never really thought of it like that. Making up for all the horrible things he's done. It could be, but I try not to think of Father in a bad light, you know?"
The bioform nods. "Just food for thought, really. I can't read the display from in here, so how long until I'm finished."
The Animated Sentience hovered to the console, a string of bon-bons dancing in the air in a line behind her. She munches on one and then answers "Abow anover ffor monf." spraying Bon-Bon everywhere.
The Bioform shakes her head, "Again, without the mouthful?" To which the animated sentience giggles, "Sowwy... " She clears her throat, "About another four months."
The bioform nods, "Thank you."
"You know how weird this is, talking to yourself?" The animated sentience poses. "I mean, does this make me insane?"
The Bioform shakes her head, "No, you're not insane. The gift of mobility that our godfather gave to you allows you to experience the world, and through you, I can share those experiences."
"Does that make us, different? I mean, am I you, are you me?"
The bioform again shakes her head, "You are as much a part of me as you are an Esper unto yourself. We are the same, but each of iis a distinct sentience, and when I am born, where once there was one there will be two."
The animated sentience giggles, "Hope Father's ready for Twins." which gets a chuckle out of the bioform, bubbles floating up through the thick gloop that she develops in. "Well, there's nothing on Lightfoot TV, and it's been a while since Jenny had any interviews..."
"When I'm born, maybe we should ask her to interview us."
The animated sentience blinks, "Us?"
"Absolutely."
The animated sentience's ears drooped a bit, her entire expression changed to one of saddness.
"What's wrong?"
The Toonic Esper looked at her developing body, "Well, whenever we... I make mention of us.... you... I....." she flusters, "You've never made mention of me like I wasn't a part of you."
The Bioform blinked, and put both paws on the glass. The animate mindform followed suit. "You, you are more then just a part of me given form, Esper. You're like my twin sister, but you're closer to me then any sister is ever going to be. No matter what, we'll always be together. Always."
The animated mindform smiled, "That means a lot to me. I was scared there for a while. Scared that when you were born, I didn't know what was going to happen to me. I was thinking maybe of seeing if our godfather needed a hand at the Vatican. You know, he's the Pope now?"
"Really? I thought the Pope was dead."
"Nahhh, that didn't last more then ten minutes."
The Bioform chuckles, then swivels in her growth chamber to the unveiled plans of the Unified Circuit. "Not too much longer now. Father's dream."
The mindform knocks softly on the glass, to get her biological sister's attention.
"No... that's Father's second dream, you mean. I know his first." and the animated sentience motions to all of the portraits, all of the photos, friends from long ago, and to the plaque of the Alexandria, gifted to Yuri by Eriska, Daughter of Steed. She then looks back at the bioform, and holds up a small mirror...
"Father's first dream is a family."
