It's pretty much common knowledge, that I am a fanatic for remixes of classic game soundtracks.  If you ever need proof drop by the VG room, with the mad sound system, while there aren't any events.  But, I digress.  Anyone who has ever been looking for that old game's music, I highly reccomend the following reosurces:

OverClocked Remix: www.ocremix.org - A great community of high talent remixers.  All remixes are reviewed by a judges panel before they get posted onto the site for quality control.  They have a huge following, have support for multiple full soundtarck remix collaborations(Sonic 2, Doom, Kirby, etc), and a streaming audio station playing their entire library 24/7.

VGMix: www.vgmix.com - Another big resource for music remixing. This site takes allows for open hosting of remixes, and is not as stringent at OCRemix.  The openness allows for more creativity, but also fails to guarantee quality.  Many more tracks to choose from though, and many of the OCRemixers will post their remixes here as well.

Project Majestic Mix: www.majesticmix.com - The home of Project Majestic Mix, a production team of Remixers doing the work professionally.  They put out albums regularly, and have online ordering.

One Up Studios: www.oneupstudios.com - The home of another professional remixer group.  They also travel as a band, "The One Ups". and play live concerts.  The band's tour schedule is ont he site as well.

Don't forget 8-Bit Weapon at http://www.8bitweapon.com/ ! I love their Metroid Drum Remix. Technically they use their own 8-bit sound system and a drum set to make mostly new songs but they use VG music as a base for them and make some remixes too.

Speaking of old games, does anyone have tricks up their sleeves for getting older PC games to work on Win XP Home? Mucking with the compatibility in the icon properties seems useless, but if you recommend some specific setting I'll try it. Specifically, I'd like to play:
Myth: The Fallen Lords
Myth II: Soulblighter
Zone 66
Hmm... can't think of any others at the moment. Myth II will run but it lags horribly... it works fine on a machine with half the performance that's two or three years older than mine and runs 98. Any help appreciated.

I can't really help you out with Myth or Myth II so much, but man, oh man, do I have a solution for Zone 66.

DOS Box.  God, this program is so useful for playing old DOS games, it's unbelievable.

For Zone 66, once you get a dosbox.conf file (One should come in the Windows package, if not, load the program, and run 'config -writeconf <full path and filename on host drive to place your shiny new dosbox.conf>'  then open that up, add the proper lines to mount your harddrive to the [autoexec] section.  When you want to play Zone66, change BOTH the EMS and XMS options to 'false' and off you go.

This magnificent program will emulate all the hardware needed (including old school sound hardware, such as Soundblaster Pros, and Gravis Ultrasounds), you can adjust speed with CTRL-F11/CTRL-F12, and frameskip with CTRL-F7/CTRL-F8.

I strongly, STRONGLY recommend (In fact, it's really demanded to do so, to get any use from the program) reading the README file included in the program's package.  I'm not really going to provide much support for the Dos Box package here (They have wondrous forums with which to use for that) but I will recommend that if your DOS skills aren't up to snuff, to grab one of the numerous front ends available on their site.  Also on their site is a wonderful Games Database with a wealth of knowledge of how to get many, many games to run with their program.

Basic stuff like that, and basic concepts like memory management, and some batch knowledge.  If you know that stuff down cold, just go for it. If not, There are a lot of good front ends for Dos Box that can ease things considerably.

I'd have to say to just try 'em all out until you find one that works for you.  I've not personally had much of a need for the frontends, so I've not used them, and can't really comment on each specific one.

Welcome, Dennis.  Yeah, I can't really get too much power out of this old clunker of a PIII of mine, but when I tweak out Dos Box, I can run Wing Commander Privateer acceptably well, as well as Falcon 3.0, and Zone 66, and far too many old SSI RPGs (Gold Box and otherwise)  Last couple of days I've been playing the original Civilization.... Ahh, the memories.

I'm trying to find the theme song from the Dreamcast Berserk video game, US title: Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage (something like that).  In the game, the song had voices over it in parts of it. At one point a friend ran across a song on napster where someone had managed to pull the song off of the video game and take the voices out so that it was only the song, but has not had any luck finding it again.  It may have been altered in other ways (longer version or something, he isn't sure). Does anyone know where to find the original song or any remixes of it?

Hey, if there are any Metroid fans out there (and I'm sure there's plenty) go check out www.metroidmetal.com . They were featured in this month's issue of Nintendo Power and I have to say they really put their hearts into making these remixes. They are just flat out awesome.
