Yeah, funny. When I first read that, it reminded me of the frog in The Tenth Kingdom. Another good solution...

On the other hand, I like pie. More pie for all Avatars! Cool, we should do piefest, since this con is sort of in Lovicon's spot. We can have it so if you do a good conversion, you get a piece of pie!

Here's a point that has absolutely ZERO to do with twinking: At level 1, several Houses are granted one proficiency in a stackable skill (i.i Ares Weapon Familiarity). They cannot use the skill. Yes, they'll hit level 2 soon enough - but you can't say they're twinking to try and use their granted first tier-ability. Also, it's a balance thing - why should some Houses have to wait to use their granted abilities, when others do not? Of course, all this is a moot point if Vinny has decided not to keep the skill cap thing Carol, At this time, I'm not going to implement a skill cap. The arguments against it outweighed the arguments for it. One point is that I am in control of every character, therefore, I may very well enforce caps to prevent someone from creating what I consider to be a destructive character. Or I might look at the numbers and let them self-destruct. We'll see. >>>Vinny

Carol,

Wow. Thanks John. I almost fell backwards out of my office chair when I read that. I needed that laugh.

** ::flips the rail switrch and puts the thread back on its original track::
Okay, so I saw, at least from the item end of things, what no level cap does to the game (a level 11 (I believe) character with Item Creation 7 ... ouch (actually one of my characters also has a level 7 skill and it's just too much). When the skill cap was originally announced, people said it was agreat idea, and now it's gone. For the sake of the system I believe going back to a skill cap would be a good thing, just round it up instead of down to solve the original question relating to skill caps and House tiers.

** Yeah, so it's almost a year later and I'm seeing more and more ridonculous numbers ... honestly, do characters really need 4-digit ORs? The system has been encouraging the min-maxing of characters for some time and balanced characters are more and more useless with time. I just want to re-iterate my belief that the skill cap (half your level, rounded up) should be put back nto place. It doesn;t solve the inflation between levels, but it at least forces players to diversify their characters at least a little.

Just acting as devil's advocate here. I don't agree or disagree with the idea of a level cap at this time; in fact I am completely neutral on the issue. As my second character gets up in level my opinion may change but that's immaterial right now.
In regards to game balance, sure there are people with huge OR bonuses. But there's also people with huge DR bonuses. And then there's also people (admittedly like myself) that can throw around powers for huge numbers that almost no one can defend against with anything they might have. My point is just that everyone wants their character to be REALLY good at something, just like in real life everyone has some skill that they are really good at. When you come right down to it, most people in life are min/maxed in some way.
