Cant seem to get rid of lag when playing F.E.A.R.

Finally bought F.E.A.R. for my computer.
Cant seem to get rid of the lag.
Everything happens in what looks like really bad stop motion.
I know my system exceeds the requirements stated on the box.
What info do you need to help me get this fixed?

Ted, thanks for responding.
Apparantly I had some how missed the "auto detect" that set everything as good as it can be on my system, so now its working fine.
