OK. Before we start, place tongue firmly in cheek. Are we all set? Good. We can proceed.
I was surprised and delighted to see that after Wicked Witches Way, that Jungle Speed appeared to be the most played board game at Dexcon 10. (Go Asmodee!) Jungle Speed, if you're unfamiliar with it, is a card-flipping dexterity game that involves matching shapes and colors and grabbing a baton that sits in the middle of the table. It's fun, it's wacky. it's zany. It's fast and furious.
It's also the
blood sport of board gamers! We had injuries galore!
I played two games during the con and observed three others. Blood was drawn at all five of them. Some people even got hurt more than once. I, myself, grabbed the baton too quickly at one point. It slipped right out of my hand and clocked my opponent (I am so sorry, Heather) right above her right eye.
Scrapes, scratches, gouges, bruises, cracked knuckles and sundry other minor injuries seemed to be the order of the day. Who knew a tabletop game could be so dangerous?
Congrats to Matt Hull, the 2007 DENCC Jungle Speed champ. He survived the knuckle busting and sharp fingernails of his opponents to become the fastest draw in the jungle.
