I'm watching the presentation right now.  I'll confess that, as a retailer, I do not like the things I've heard about presentation and distribution.

Part the First - RE: Grappling - It's funny because it's true.  (Maybe not grappling, but I've experienced the brick wall of 'obscure rules look-up' in D&D and other D20 games.)
[EDIT2]Design will pen classes into predefined roles.  Boring for vets, but good for beginners.  Since I've never seen WotC design prescribe to any sort of underlying system architecture, chances are good that class design is still done by 'feel' (and prone to wild deviation) and those roles will bleed into each as the rules set expands.  Also, I doubt D20 can beat my current gold standard for gentle RPG learning curves, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (my fellow RPS members can stop snickering at any time.)

[EDIT] Part II - Codes for digital copies of your hard copies?  Good thing.  The real question is, "At what cost?"  They conveniently left that out.

Part III - RE: D&D Gametable - Yes, online, real time tabletops have been going on since the advent of IRC, but it is nice to finally see all the tools refined and rolled up into one ap.  I have no problem with this, but again, cost?
[EDIT2]Wow, it's a character creator program and model maker.  How novel.  Roll Eyes
[EDIT3] "I'd like to thank our newly formed digital design team..."  You know, this is all starting to sound suspiciously like 3E's promises of a full applications suite that ended up being the red-headed stepchild E-Tools.

Part IV "There are some things we'd like to keep a secret until the [PHB] comes out in May."  Oh, I bet the frakkin' promotions department put that idea into his head.  Secrets only lead to Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt, you morons.  Do not undermine the very brick and mortar stores that are supporting you, especially when I'll have to put orders in for these books in FRAKKIN' JANUARY. >:@

Sorry, got a little carried away there.

[EDIT4]Obviously, the presentation was all "Rah, Rah" and, essentially, informationless.  From outside sources, I've heard a lot more.  I'm sympathetic is some of the mechanical changes I've heard about.  Easier is always good.  It would nice to see Epic graduate from it's current state (which is 'endless beta at the player's hands'.)  I don't feel a lot of the digital content is necessary, as it usually just becomes another way of parting gamers from their money.  Yes, the WoW is kicking their ass, but applying the same business plan at twice the consumer cost is just going to end in horrific failure.

A part of me feels like the best thing that can happen for the sake of the game is for 4E to miss Hasbro's benchmarks, and they sell D&D to someone who actually understands the hobby.

"You see sometimes when an owl loves a bear, very much, and they make a commitment, they do what we in arcane circles call... the nasty. A couple months later, a few spells here and their and, hey!  You got yourselves an owlbear.  And dammit, they are delicious" - Hennet, Icon Sorcerer
