Greetings All!

Dreamation 2008 is a mere six weeks away and I thought I'd try something RADICAL! Yes, that's right...I mean to get work done BEFORE the last minute! Now get all your "gasping-in-shock" out of the way and pay attention. I may act the part o' the Anime Guru (or "Diva", depending on who you ask) but I must admit I don't know absolutely everything. That's why I must poll (re: brace, cajole, threaten...take your pick) the collective You, the unwashed thronging masses of gamers to help me craft an enjoyable and satisfying half-week of video programming.

Ultimately the final scheduling decisions are mine and I must bear the responsibility for any dissatisfaction or boredom that ensues. That being said, I want to make sure the greatest sum of attendees are entertained and the widest possible tastes are catered to. DO NOT do what a bunch of pissy anime fans did to me at Philcon! I was informed by a person working the info/registration desk that some attendees claiming to run an anime club were dissatisfied by the boring shows I scheduled. When told who I was and where to find me to express their opinions and offer up suggestions they apparently followed John Gabriel's theory as illustrated by this link...

http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-34640480252896_1981_126096

...or in other words, they didn't say shit to me. Thanks fuck-tards! Way to show some chutzpah!!

And on the topic of responsibility, I want to let everyone know that, short of disaster or sickness, I will be there the entire weekend to supervise. No other con of any relevance to me (and hopefully, my staff) will be going down that weekend. Barring any unforeseen pre-con or on-site situations I will endeavor to keep the room up and running continuously, from opening on Thursday to shutdown on Sunday.

Now, onto the ever-burning subject of programming and scheduling...

I am definitely going through with my plans to do a "Ninjas vs. Pirates" programming blocks in addition to the usual ones I work with (Saturday Morning Cartoon Revival, Nostalgia@Noon). Friday will be devoted to NINJAS and Saturday will be PIRATES. I apologize to any ninja-enthusiast who can't make it for the entire day, but putting PIRATES on Saturday is all the excuse I need to put "The Pirates of Dark Water" on for the Saturday Morning block. Below is part of my previous post on this subject with possibilities to schedule. Please feel free to post more suggestions if I have missed something too good to pass up. Remember, I don't know everything, I just have the ability to FOOL people into thinking I know what I'm talking about. It's possible I may have missed something obvious.

PIRATES
My Youth In Arcadia/Harlock Saga
Space Pirate Mito
Black Lagoon
The Pirates of Dark Water
Sol Bianca
Outlaw Star

NINJA
Yotoden/Wrath of the Ninja
Dagger of Kamui
Ninja Scroll (late night only...I'll probably close the doors and card people)
Lupin III movie "Dragons of Doom"
S.T.E.A.M.: The Movie ("Can you spot the ninja? And remember kids, dress invisibly!")
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets

As far as Thursday and Sunday go, much is up in the air. I may finally work up the nerve to schedule a real horror-fest  for Thursday after 10pm in the form of "Dokuro-chan" and "Dai Mahou Touge" to satisfy my next-door-neighbors (you know who you are, you sick ba$t@rds!). Who knows?

There are some other shows I'd like to again ("Kaze no Stigma" and "Romeo X Juliet") but I've received no feedback on them nor how well attended they were. Maybe I'll wait for Dexcon to show them again. We'll see.

One other thing, thanks to my DivX-capable DVD player I don't have to sweat over converting this-or-that unlicensed show to DVD format. Sometimes I may have to reconvert it to play properly or crack an mkv into an avi, but the time saved is considerable and the list of possible programming is much wider. So if you have a show that is downloadable or available via bittorrent, please let me know where to find it or post the torrent link.

Till then, be seeing you...

From what I've seen, I'm not really interested. Thanks, but no thanks. Save yourself the media.

That aside, I might be interested in screening the movie at Dexcon. Just because I'm not interested in a show doesn't mean it can't be on the schedule. I've seen too many anime rooms run with a "If I, personally, don't like it, it won't be on MY schedule!" I don't run things that way.

However, I'd need to screen it first to get a better idea of where to schedule it. I NEVER put something on the line-up that hasn't been screened by either myself or someone on my staff. Ask me about the "Ninja Scroll" incident that happened to my predecessor at a long-past Lunacon some other time.

Yeah, but it contains neither ninja nor pirates.

Do you mean, for non-block programming? Because we've shown "Excel Saga" years ago, back when Diane Sodher was running the video room and I was but her humble assistant.

There's nothing wrong with bringing it along for Viewer's Choice. But you'll have to bring it yourself as I'll be loaded up with stacks of stuff already.

you've told the ninja scroll story to me already... hell, I think it's posted here in this forum.  I respect that.   I know DB has it on their site.

Okidokie Artichokie!

Here's the current schedule for the Anime/Video Room. I'll re-post the schedule with all the descriptions attached in a couple o' days. Some changes may occur between now and the con. It all depends on the speed of the distributors and UPS.

Till then, be seeing you...

Greetings All!

Here's the final schedule, complete with descriptions.

Enjoy!
Brian & Malak

THURSDAY

6PM – 8PM – "Ergo Proxy": In the domed city of Romdeau humans and robots, referred to as Auto-Raves, live in utopian harmony. This delicate social balance is jeopardized by a series of murders and the outbreak of the Cogito Virus which grants androids self-awareness and a capacity for violent self-defense. Re-l Mayer, an inspector in the Citizens Intelligence Bureau tasked to investigate these disruptions, finds herself in an ever-deepening mystery when she stumbles upon a secret government project involving a humanoid called "Proxy".

8PM – 10PM – "WitchBlade": Based on the American comic created by Marc Silvestri. Once a generation the WitchBlade grafts itself to a human woman capable of wielding it. Six years after a mysterious catastrophe ravages Japan, it resurfaces upon Masane Amaha, an amnesiac who merely wants a peaceful life with her young daughter, Rihoko. But rival forces of a huge corporation and a powerful government agency covet her power and are willing to do anything to claim it for themselves.

10PM – 12AM – "Dai Mahou Touge": Tanaka Punie is a princess from the Realm of Magic. To prove herself worthy of her right to the throne, she must transfer to a Japanese high school. This should be pretty easy, but many threats of assassination lurk around many corners. Unfortunately for her adversaries, Punie is armed with many brutal forms of magic and a variety of torturous submission holds.

12AM – 2AM – "Beating-to-Death Angel Dokuro-chan":  Our next, ultra-violent assault on the Magical Princess genre. Sakura Kusakabe should be living a normal teenage existance. However his home has been invaded by Dokuro-chan, a young girl who claims to an angel...and has a bad habit of splattering him with her spiked iron club, Excalibolg...OFTEN! But don't worry, after resurrecting him everything should be fine...if only she didn't do it over and over again. All this because, for some reason, he offends God in the future. Is she Sakura's savior or executioner...or both!?

2AM – Viewer's Choice

FRIDAY – "NINJAS"

12PM – 2PM – Nostalgia @ Noon "Gatchaman": The classic sci-fi ninja series that gave rise to "Battle of the Planets". The technologically advanced organization Galactor is waging a campaign of conquest across the world. The International Science Organization, and their squad of superpowered ninja, are the only ones capable of meeting this worldwide threat.

2PM – 4PM – "Jubei-chan: The Ninja Girl": Despite his legendary skill, Jubei Yagyu could not defeat death. But he vowed that one day his legacy would reemerge in a worthy successor...and now, 300 years later, that day has come! Unfortunately for Jiyu Nanohana, an ordinary girl seeking a normal life, the disciples of the Yagyu clan have pegged her as his heir. If that wasn't bad enough, now the followers of a rival clan are after her. How many monsters does a schoolgirl have to defeat to have a regular life?!

4PM – 6PM – "Yotoden: Wrath of the Ninja":  In 1580, the demon warlord Oda Nobunaga and his supernatural hoards, were fulfilling his ambition to conquer the fractured nation of Japan. Ayame, a young ninja girl, escapes her village's destruction with one of three legendary weapons. She must seek out the wielders of the remaining weapons to ensure the survival of all mankind.

6PM – 8PM – "Lupin III: Dragon of Doom": Thieves and Gangsters and Ninja, oh my! Lupin III, the Gentleman Thief, and his gang are at it again. This time it's a mysterious statue that sank with the Titanic. If a failed attempt to steal it by his grandfather wasn't enough motivation to retrieve the treasure, the too-keen interest of friend and foe alike, not to mention the challenge itself, spurs him to action.

8PM – 10PM – "Naruto: Ninja Clash In The Land Of Snow": How hard could it be to guard the famous and beautiful (re: snobby) actress, Yukie Fujikaze? Not too difficult if you're a highly-skilled member of the ninja squad Team Seven, right? WRONG! Rouge ninja are Hell-bent to take the power secretly held by Yukie.

10PM – 12AM – "S.T.E.A.M.: The Movie": The epic tale of heroism and hilarity from NoNDE Films, creators of "This Is Otakudom". Team E.V.I.L. and Mr. Big Fro are threatening the World...AGAIN! Can the overqualified H.E.A.T. Force and inept W.A.T.E.R. Team get their act together to face this Fro...I mean, foe? The World can be saved by S.T.E.A.M.!

12AM – 2AM – "Ninja Scroll": The bloody tale of the ninja vagabond, Jubei Kibagami, and his legendary conflict with the Eight Devils of Kimon. Gemma, the ruthless leader of the Devils, is hatching a plot of epic proportions. Only Jubei, the lone kunoichi, Kagero and the government agent, Dakuan stand ready to thwart Gemma's scheme. Due to the nature of this program, no one under the age of 17 will be admitted to this screening, so keep your ID handy. You will be carded!

2AM – Viewer's Choice

SATURDAY – "PIRATES"

10AM – 12PM – Saturday Morning Cartoon Revival "The Pirates Of Dark Water":
Thirteen Treasures of ancient time, Thirteen lessons of Rule in rhyme.
To find the jewels in secret places, Follow where the Compass faces.
If returned from the shore beyond, A new day dawns for Octopon.
But if they fall into evil hands, Darkness descends on all the lands.
For these riches two shall vie, In the realm of Dark Water where the Treasures lie.

12PM – 3PM – Nostalgia @ Noon "Harlock Saga": Leiji Matsumoto's adaptation of Wagner's classic opera "Der Ring Des Nibelungen". The Gods are angry! One of the Nibelheim, the former servants of Valhalla struck down by their divine masters, has stolen the Rheingold. If properly fashioned, this substance, once used to forge the Universe itself, can grant it's wearer power over all creation. Warned of the imminent danger, the Space Pirates Harlock and Emeraldas, Tochiro the Mechanic and Maetel the Eternal Traveller set out to save the Universe...not for the Gods, but for all living beings throughout.

3PM – 5PM – "Tenchi Muyo": Tenchi Masaki thinks he's a normal teenager. But when his curiosity gets the better of him, everything takes a turn towards the bizarre. Despite his grandfather's warnings, he can't help but to investigate a cave purported to keep a demon sealed away. But instead of a demon he accidentally unleashes Ryoko, a notorious, interplanetary space-pirate. And in releasing her, Tenchi calls down the forces seeking her capture, as well as his secret legacy.

5PM – 7PM – "Space Pirate Mito": Mito only wants one thing more than being the most dangerous interstellar pirate, to be called "Mom" by her earthbound son, Aoi. Unfortunately he's in for a rude awakening when he meets her alien crew and discovers her "career" takes her WAY more abroad than Europe and America.

7PM – 9PM – "Outlaw Star": Prime the drives and strap on some ammo! Gene Starwind, Jim Hawking and the crew of the Outlaw Star are racing against vicious space pirate hoards and interstellar gangsters to be the first to claim the mysterious power of the Galactic Leyline, and all the fortune and glory that comes with it.

9PM – 11PM – "Sol Bianca: The Legacy": Space has been well explored by humanity and Earth is now a distant legend. A religious order known as the Earthians has emerged, using overwhelming force to take treasures from Earth, their most holy of worlds. The only people skilled (and crazy) enough to challenge their oppressive tactics is the all-female quintet crew of the pirate ship Sol Bianca.

11PM – 1AM – "Black Lagoon": Okajima Rokuro was a completely average Japanese salaryman. That is, until he's sent to the Asian South Seas on extremely sensitive business. Now he finds himself kidnapped, ransomed, shot at, declared dead and hunted by mercenaries, all thanks to the crew of the pirate vessel Black Lagoon. With nothing else left to lose and danger all around Rokuro embraces the fate thrust upon him and does the unthinkable, join the crew and finally starts living his life to the fullest.

1AM – Viewer's Choice

SUNDAY

10AM – 12PM – "Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE": Princess Sakura is in dire need. After a mysterious incident at an archeological dig her soul and memories have been scattered across a multitude of dimensions. Syaoran, Sakura's childhood friend and object of her secret affection, takes up the task to save her. However, to cross dimensions one must give up something precious to them. In Syaoran's case, he must sacrifice his relationship with Sakura to save her life.

12PM – 2PM – Nostalgia @ Noon "Bagi, The Monster Of Mighty Nature": From Osamu Tezuka, the Godfather of Anime, comes this cautionary tale that blends "Frankenstein" with "Flowers For Algernon". Ryosuke, a hunter and mercenary, is on the trail of Bagi, the animal that murdered his mother. However this is no ordinary animal, rather a creature born of reckless genetic experimentation. But the real danger lies in Bagi's connection to Ryosuke's past.

2PM – 4PM – "Ouran Host Club": Fujioka Haruhi, a clever and tomboyish girl of common means, has gotten into quite a fix. Her scholarship has opened the doors to the prestigious Ouran High School, but scholastic life is not easy; lacking the wealth other students possess AND constantly being mistaken for a boy top the list. But things really change when she accidentally breaks an extremely expensive vase belonging to the school's host club (a social club for supplying female students entertainment and pressure-free companionship). Not being able to pay for it she is drafted into becoming the newest member. The debt that hangs over her head will not be forgiven until she gathers a seemingly impossible one hundred guests.

4PM – Dead Dog Anime – For those who have the Constitution Stats to see it through to the very end! Potluck, random and no-holds-barred! If you want to see it and we have it, SO SHALL IT BE!!
