Folks,

There are several reasons why we are doing this at the last minute; none of them are bad, and our relationship with the East Brunswick Hilton is as strong as ever. This change affects ONLY DREAMATION 2008; DEXCON 11 and DREAMATION 2009 will be back where they belong.

The East Brunswick Hilton was in a bind, and begged us to change hotels, and lined up a hotel to work with: The Hilton Woodbridge in Iselin, New Jersey. This hotel is about 12 miles north of East Brunswick, off exit 11 of the Turnpike.

Everyone who has made a room reservation at the East Brunswick Hilton will be AUTOMATICALLY transferred over to the Hilton Woodbridge, and will pay the same room rate. All new reservations should be made by calling the Hilton Woodbridge directly: 1-732-494-6200, and making sure you CLEARLY say you are with DREAMATION 2008. The room rate is still $99/night.

Please pay attention to this part: The room block will NOT run out until POSSIBLY January 16. If any of the idiots at the Hilton Main Reservation center tell you that there are no rooms available, THEY ARE WRONG - at that point, you ask for a name of who you are speaking to, and eMail me IMMEDIATELY at d2008@dexposure.com.

None of the convention will be compromised by this move, and as a matter of fact, several areas will get some additional breathing room. We apologize for this last-minute change, but it was absolutely in our best interests to do it. Besides, we all needed a change of scenery Smiley

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly at d2008@dexposure.com or post to this topic.

Complete information and directions to the new hotel are now posted on the Double Exposure web site.

I know one concern will be food... I don't know this new hotel's policy, nor its onsite dining.

I do know that it's not IMMEDIATELY near much as far as food goes, BUT...

within a 10 minutes drive are: Route 1.  Woodbridge Mall.  Menlo Park Mall.

between those 3, and the stuff in the area, there are PLENTY of food opportunities within a reasonable drive.  so don't be afraid to make plans for someone to go on a food run... I know I am.

Actually, this would make my trip easier, as I prefer the train to the bus.  The only issue would be carrying my bag the half mile from the train station in winter.  Not that it hasn't felt like a half mile walk from the bus stop outside the Brunswick hotel and the front door.

What, you forget my cell number and that I have a truck?

I travel by public transit.  How do I get there by train or bus from New York City?

I'm sure you could arrange a ride from some kind soul to pick you up at one of the MANY train stations (I think Metropark would be easiest as it's right off the GSP.)  That reminds me I need to scheduel myself a hotel block, especially if it's gonna be as far away for me as Woodbridge.

ladies and gentlemen....

the Woodbridge Hilton

and from the directions page:

Amtrak Train / Metropark Station is walking distance from the hotel. Exit the train station and turn right onto Middlesex Turnpike. Turn left at the light (Wood Ave South) and the hotel is two blocks up the hill on the left hand side. Total distance is 2.5 blocks.

the Metropark Station is on the Northeast Corridor line, if you come from New York.

sultan sushi doesn't... looks like it's out of their area.

HOWEVER... they have a sister chain, "Shogun Wok" (why the difference in name, I haven't a CLUE), that is in Edison, and should.

www.shogunwok.com

Neubies... I don't think so.   but like I said, I'm sure we can find a number of other places that will.... and like I said, there's a TON within a quick drive.  between the two malls, we have access to every fast food and casual dining chain OUT there.  and with most of these places offering curbside pickup, it's basically a "find someone who drives" thing.

I had an opportunity to drive past the new hotel today - from taking Exit 131A (Note the A in there!), it's literally the first intersection from the exit, which is named Hilton Driveway. As Ted once said, you can see it from the exit.  (Followed shortly by "Welcome to New Jersey, God can't help you now," but that doesn't apply here.)  Even the directionally challenged should be able to find it, unless you're the kind of person that ignores yellow lines and concrete barriers when you drive.

The train station (Metro Park) is incredibly close by, and definitely an easy walk from the hotel.  I'll check to see if there is a shuttle, although one isn't really needed.  It's right down a main street from the hotel.

Rumor has it that parking is free, although details may have changed since the last time my sources checked.

Google Map, with nearby trains and whatnot:

Total distance is 2.5 blocks.

Mind you, that's 2.5 blocks in gawd-knows-what winter weather, carrying a weekend's worth of clothes and a full gamer bag.  It could be smooth sailing hiking, it could be two and a half blocks of heck.

This settles it.  I'm starting my shopping now for the expensive camping pack I want for next Christmas.
