I don't know if this is true, but I'm shore someone on this group will say its not if there is half a chance.
My question, is can anyone absolutely confirm or deny the existence of Big brother, and this system?

Will a tinfoil hat protect us?Huh

AND WE LIVE IN A FREEEEEEEEEE COUNTRY... SO THEY SAY.

New York State started a pilot program upstate north of Albany on the Northway to
catch speeders using the Easy Pass system.    Recording devices were
installed at intervals along the highway.  Once an Easy Pass equipped
vehicle passes, the device registers the account number and the time.
Same is again registered at the next "check-point".   Based  upon the
distance between the register points and the posted speed limit, the
state is
sending speeding tickets in the mail to the guilty persons.

Because every driver does not have Easy Pass, the State is
"perplexed" as what to do to impose the system state-wide.  The
solution has been found.  Soon all new vehicle registration stickers will have a
metal strip or chip embedded in same.  This will take the place of the
Easy Pass system as stated above.  When a vehicle passes the registering
device, the strip will relay all the information.

This is not fictional.     New York State contracted
with VERIZON to install the system.   The system has
already been installed and the entire Bronx River Parkway in
Westchester County has been "wired" for when the new system begins.     Once the State makes the new program public and advises all motorists of the potential
for numerous speeding tickets, it will also reveal that the system has
already been installed.

Another reason that will be given for the new system is to enable the authorities to track stolen vehicles, to trace kidnap victims, to monitor and trace suspected criminals and terrorists, etc.

BIG  BROTHER IS ALIVE AND WELL.

Pass this along to every one you

Well, the question of whether or not we live free is different altogether from the duly elected government finding new and inventive ways to fine people for violation their laws.  Living free depends on how you qualify "free."  Technically in this case, you are free to break the law as much as you want; you're still going to have consequences for your actions.

Any citations for your source?

When EZPass was first implemented in NJ, there was quite a bit of discussion about using the system for such a task.  I can't remember whether or not there was actually a proposal for this, but I believe all the backlash from privacy advocate groups about this being used as a system to track citizens quashed it.

And no, a tinfoil hat will not protect you.  Aluminum is the way to go Wink

Now the thing is if there useing magnets to send the information it will be easy to alter or nulify with diffrent materials/metals/ore/ect. theres gonna be people out there where there gonna do this and figure out a way just like the basic security system most retial stores have for shop lifters you take a magnet to it and it messes it up so it wont set it off thats why on occasion certain batteries mess with the system and will set it off even when you have purchased everything in the bag(s). True if your car doesn't pick up they could send you a ticket for that while takeing a picture of your license plates, but you can easily fight it in court by saying the system is faulty and didn't pick it up. Some of the basic scan checks can prove this true. So yes they can install it, but i belive they wont be able to enforce it unless when you purchase a car or go to re-register it they have you sign documentation stateing that yes you approve of this vehicle to be tagged and tracked.  If not correct me if im wrong but i belive it would fall under not ignorance but them installing a system on your car even if its just a small metal strip to track you against your knowledge even if they broadcast it and post signs you still personally did not authorize it to be on your car. In the end though everyone will be enforced to do it where if you dont sign it you cant get your car registered and then people would take it to court and push it through to band it then millions of dollars would be spent so to make the money back they will raise the toll charge even more then there going to to make up for it. So with this said im in the plans of moving out of the country maybe to norway, norway sound like a good time whos coming with me.

I believe they did something like this with the boxes that record your speed and snap a picture of your license plate. When it was challenged in court, the state lost on the grounds that each person has a right to face their accuser in a court of law. A large amount of people already had simply paid the fine before this so it paid for itself however. I am not surprised to see them looking for these types of solutions. I suspect soon there will be a GPS chip in every car that will broadcast your speed and location, of course for your own safety, and it will be one of the MANY papers you sign when you get a new car. Any illusion that this is a completely free country goes out the window when you have politicians who have to find more ways to pay for their spending fetishes, and stupid people who only look at what party and what race/gender or religious inclination someone is in, and not their records and the issues they are running on.

Snope'd, it's a bunch of bull.

EDIT: I forgot black was someone else's color. ^_^

Yeah, the "pass this along to everyone you know" line was a pretty clear indication.  But hey, that's what the Flames & Rants section is for: going "ZOMG!1! Teh 3v1L g0vt is tr4k1ing my c4r!!1oneone!" and "shut up you twit, they don't actually do that."

And of course there is always the geekly discussion of the best methods of actually pulling it off and countering the system Wink

In theory it could be used in that fashion, similar to red light cameras. (Which also suck, IMO)

However, the speed limit laws for the TP and the GSP would have to be completely redone (Not gonna happed anytime soon). Otherwise people would either not use ezpass, or rts 1, 9, 18, etc will get exponentially worse

Also: professional drivers (livery, taxi, etc) are not the slowest people on the turnpike, and consider the speed limit the minimum speed (I averaged 85+ on the turnpike in light traffic, and would get passed)

It also didn't help that the first run of ezpass exit scanners didn't work half the time, thus billing customers for the longest trip possible from the entrance point.

If the Governor's toll increases get implemented this is already going to happen.
