OR stands for Offensive Rating.  OR is both stat on the CC, and the name for a unit of measurement for Offensive Calculations.  No, that is not written verbatim in the book.  But it can be logically construed, using the sum total of knowledge contained within the book.

There is a difference between being able to put that together, and it being clearly and following obviously. I, obviously, don't think that latter is the case. However, that having been explained, I'll try to remember how this works in the future.

You are, through Warp, affecting one of the modifying Offensive Rating components of the Offensive Calculation, and turning it from a damaging effect to another effect of your choosing, within the limits described.  You are modifying one of the modifiers.

This part still doesn't sit right with me: you have stated that the OR being warped, in this case, is NOT the stat. As such, due to the requirement that Warp must affect a number that is being applied TO a stat, you should not be able to use Warp Reality on the numerical effects applied from the Items or Skills in the way that you just described.

The Skill's Offensive Rating, is a part of the Offensive Calculation which, serves the sole purpose of being applied negatively to a target's LIFE stat.  As a component of the Offensive Calculation, it is affecting a stat.  Same thing with an Item.

Just for the record, I'm confused by this as well.  It may seem obvious to somebody, but I'm still having trouble with it.

I'm all for rules-lite, you know that, but in the case of this particular power, I think a bit more precision (and some examples anyone can understand) might be called for.  Rather than trying to fix the wording, it might even be better to chuck it, figure out the exact meaning, and start over describing it, making a point to avoid ambiguities (like the multiple meanings of OR, or "applied to a stat".)

This one power seems to confuse more people ...

That is some seriously convoluted shit there, man. I see what you're saying, I think I get it, but for the record? This is not straightforward or easily gleaned from the text.

I would like to politely, but firmly, put a foot down at this point.

I'm always open to entertain questions regarding the rules, to the best of my ability.  It's my job, and I love my job.  Right now, this thread is turning into a wholesale review and analysis, of the underlying mechanics of the Avatar System.

This is more than just a simple Q & A.  This has turned into a search for every permutation, and that's just not a valid discussion for this public forum.  Such conversations only serve to obfuscate and confuse, not bring clarity.

You want to extendedly feel out the borders of legitimate applications, and what not?  We'll take direct questions, in private.  We'll will then provide you a ruling, and usually provide the best explanation of why it is that way, and that should be where it ends.  If you think you can show us where our reasoning is flawed, we'll respond to that also.  But if the answer remains the same, the answer remains the same, unless a superior officer changes it.

If you want us to teach you the entirety of the underlying interactions and the reasons behind them, then you really need to do your homework in advance, and have a very tight grasp of the entire text.  It took us years to learn the nature of the beast, and we're still learning, because the system evolves.  Expect the same in your studies.

That being said the ruling is as follows:

Combat skills do not target their owners, they merely provide bonuses to their actions.  A Warp of a combat skill will not affect the owner of the skill, because of this.  You use the combat skill upon a declared individual(s), not on yourself.  The skill is being applied to a greater calculation, which is then being applied against the stats of specifically targetted avatar.  The Skill takes its target from the target of the greater calculation.  When it is warped, it retains that target.

Example:  X warps Y MA skill, when Y throws a punch.  X may apply that warpage to any one of X's stats only.  He may not use it against Y's stats, because Y was never a target of the MA skill, only its owner.

Items do not target their owners, in a similar manner, they provide bonuses to their actions.  The only items that can be warped however, are items that have a note of being activated, rather than continuous.  Please review your 3.0 series item cards, to be sure.

I hope that is clear enough to follow.

OK, I have a new question, if you use Warp Reality against an AoE effect, do you warp the whole effect or just that which hits you?

There is only one offensive calculation occurring, although it occurs against multiple targets.  Thusly, it effects the entire thing, and every person affected by it gets affected the same way.

However, make sure you note that an AOE that lasts more than one round is ONLY affected for that first round, as specified in the description.

Yeah, Andy's got the rights of it there.

Example 1:  X casts an Elem Area Effect for 200 pts to 5 people in a range.  Y warps for 200 points and has it add to CON.  Until Y reacts or takes another action, the 5 subjects of the Elem Area Effect have a Bonus 400 LIFE (200 CON * 2)

Example 2: X summons a Toxic Storm for 200 pts, which will hit 5 people in range.  Y warps it for 200 pts and has it add to CON as above.  However, Y then takes his own action.  If X maintains the Toxic Storm, and causes it to persist, it will again cause damage as normal.  There is also not another chance for rewarping, as there is not another instance of the power being activated to react to.

This one is actually an exception to most bonus granting tricks, and it is listed out in the power wording. Here's the sentence you want to pay attention to most:

"No matter what the duration of the original effect, the changed effect will remain in effect until the end of the NEXT Action or Reaction performed by the user."

A Warp bonus lasts only until after the warper performs another action or reaction, or the normal duration of the effect.  Whichever comes first.

So presuming the Warper takes no action, or reaction, WHATSOEVER, and lives for the rest of a combat, the bonus will last its normal duration.  In combat, taking no action/reaction means staying in one place, and making defensive pulls as necessary.  Out of combat that means doing your best impression of a statue and staying still and quiet.

In our example, you would maintain that bonus CON, and LIFE, until the warper acted/reacted in combat, did anything out of combat, or 10 minutes after combat as that is the normal regen time for damage.
