(Feel free to bump this to Clubs & Organizations if appropriate.)
It's Chrismahanakwanzaka time again, and that means The Annual Monmouth RPS Christmas Party. This year's party will be held Friday, December 23rd at the St. Clement's Church Undercroft, 302 Church Street, Belford N.J., from 7:30pm until 1am, and will be free to all comers as usual.
Traditionally we do a potluck dinner for the party. Our members are coordinating who's bringing what on our message board, and if you are planning on coming you can tell us right here in this thread. Horace and I are regulars on both boards and can help keep the repetition down. Right now Eric is bringing cold cuts, I'm most likely bringing fried chicken, and Olinshooter will be baking brownies.
Another tradition is the RPS Gift Exchange. Just on a lark, I Googled the name I know for our rules, and found
a full blown Wikipedia article on our annual antics. Those unfamiliar with a White Elephant exchange, follow the above link and keep our own house rules in mind:
- The theme is anything gamer-centric. That includes games, fiction, and DVDs. I can't recall anyone trying video games, as you never know who has what platform.
- Suggested price for the gifts is $15, although the effective median the past few years as been $20.
- Gifts certificates by themselves are fair game as long as they fit the theme. Hobbymasters or Barnes & Noble are good gift certificates, but gift cards to Linens & Things will be rewarded with fifteen lashes from a cat-5 cable.
- Gifts are still "dead" after the third steal in our exchange, but we've found some gifts have a high fatality rate. Therefore, all gifts have three "lives". They still can't be stolen more than three times in a round, but you can only keep them on the third time it has died. (Why yes, we do have a Munchkin Deck O' Doom. Why do you ask?
) - After the gift exchange is over, trading is not only allowed, but encouraged.
If you have any more questions, don't be afraid to ask. If we don't see you, have a happy holiday!
Edit: got Horace's handle wrong.
