for those of you who remember, eric reitz was an awesome role player.  for those of you who don't remember, or know, eric reitz was an awesome role player who is no longer with us.

patti, another old nexus-ite, happened across an old CD that (while i guess it has other things on it as well) happens to have a lot of old stuff that eric had posted, either in IM conversations, to forums, maybe, or wherever.

a lot of it is old (obviously) and im not even sure if any of it is pertinent to anything going on now, but patti wanted to share it with anyone who is interested, not in the "hey i want to learn nexus secrets" kind of interest but in the "hey, i miss eric" kind of interest.

Before I just go posting away, I wanted to clear it with the GMs first.  I'd just link to where patti posted it, but it's her private journal and she didn't want me linking to it, if i could avoid that.  It all seems to be stuff about Yen Sid, and how he claims to have created the nexus, or something.  Other characters that get mentioned are Meleena Bunny, Spew, Xur, Rumble, AElfgifu, Doinky, the lone nut, Guiseppi, Nil, Donny, Proteus, Canis Major, Lovious.

I don't want to give anything away in the off chance that it might be related to something pertinent, so if someone could let me know, and I'll copy and paste away, or not, whatever.

Anna, are you asking us to guess?  Smiley  While it's highly unllikely such information could harm the current game, or even be useful in any sort of unfair way, we just can't possibly know unless we see it first.

But . . .

given that the Nexus has gone though a Reformation since then, and is likely about to go through another, and that there are only two characters on that list you mentioned still active (and neither players are likely to mind), I say go ahead and post if you want.

I knew Eric, particularly during his final year. In-game, he was sort of Dr. Steed's inadvertent creation and oft-nemesis. Out of game, he was an inspirational player, who more than once threw the whole of his play into my plots and our scenes together. He was also a consummate Territory GM, who displayed an excellent fairness - even in letting his character get f'ed over if it made sense to do so.

I was proud to call him a fellow LARPer, and a friend.

Anna - I say post the data.

Besides which - this is the Avatar Fiction sub-forum. This isn't in-game info anyway. It's fiction. :-)

here's all the eric stuff.  i knew i was being vague but i was hoping that by mentioning that certain group of characters that someone who knew might recognize what the plot was without me giving away too many other details.

anyway, here it is... in parts.

This has cut and pastes from online conversations in it too.

Synopsis:

Yen Sid arrived publicly in the Nexus of the Friday of Spring Gathering.

Yen Sid claims to be the father of the Nexus. He states that the Nexus is trying to get rid of the avatars and destroy us. He says if you trust him and believe in him, that he will save those individuals, and remove them safely from the Nexus to drop those individuals on some (journey) world. He claims to do this out of guilt.

Yellow – contact or attempt at contact
Blue – Weird
Green – Faith references.

Evidence Locker:

A driver's license
A gun

Evidence Report:

The Driver's license is one with a fictional address (123 Broadway St. New York, Nexus 00666) and also has his name and a photo on it. This is the only existing photo of Yen Sid, as he is unable to be picked up by any remote sensing devices.

Avatar Reports:

Meleena Bunny:

Meleena Bunny had an interview with Yen Sid; Spew was present and also had a discussion with Yen Sid. Meleena Bunny shook hands with Yen Sid. Meleena Bunny's eye color changed after the interview. At exactly what point in time is unknown. When told of this she could not tell what her eye color was. She also displayed unusual characteristics that were not usually seen, like her fur changing color depending on her apparent mood at the time. Later when scanned by Spew, it came up that she was cursed. Spew was not cursed. Meleena Bunny is a toon.

Meleena’s Statements:

Yen Sid, self-proclaimed father of the nexus gave me this riveting interview. He explained that he created his child, the Nexus, to have a Utopia in which he could live. After sampling his masterpiece he decided to share this utopia with others, allowing his child to take "avatars" from existing worlds to live here in the Nexus.

Yen explained that his experiment, the first generation of the Nexus, failed horribly. The avatars were greedy, and destructive. They drew and manipulated the Nexus power to further their own means hurting themselves, each other, and the Nexus itself. The child was forced to destroy the "infestation" of avatars to save itself.

The Savior to the Nexus explained, "This second generation is my fault, a complete mistake. I should have left it well enough alone." Because this generation is taking the same destructive path that the first did, Yen tells us we will be destroyed as well.

The Savior of the Nexus told me that the biggest corrupter was Lovious Prime. "He is an evil entity manipulating avatars and the Nexus to his own whim. You actually think there are multiple people? They are all the same person! Everything he says is a lie! It is a trick to lull you into submission so that you don't suspect him. You are all fools!"

When I inquired about the latest horror, the maelstrom, to Yen Sid, he indicated this was just a symptom of the infestation. The child, Nexus, was exhibiting its anger. The end is coming and there is nothing we can do to stop it. The Nexus wants the avatars out. "How long do you have? That depends on the avatar's greed for money and power. The more you use your "gifts" for ill gain, the faster your destruction." said Yen.

Our only hope is that we give up our current ways - stop using our powers, and stop fighting among ourselves. Yen Sid told me he can save us. "There are innocent avatars that should be saved. You must have faith and believe." Yen will save those who stop using their powers and give up their destructive ways. He suggests we leave the Nexus and go to our own genres to live out our lives.

> Did Yen Sid touch you at a time during your interview?

No he didn't. We were about 10 feet apart at all times. Spew of house Ares accompanied me and there was one other individual there but I don't remember who it was. Spew might.
>
> Have you noticed anything different about yourself?

hmm.. Spew told me I look different.. my eyes are different

> Was there anything he stated that was not printed?

Just repeats of what was printed. The conversation was a long one.. I will have to see of I still have my notes to check more on this.
>
> Was there anything strange about his expression when he spoke? ie. did he look serious? Sarcastic?

Very sarcastic and condescending. Definitely amused.

Rumble:

Rumble, who is a toon, at one point was visibly seen to be practically worshipping at Yen Sid’s feet. Apparently Rumble at one point in time conversed with Yen Sid, and I guess believes his story, or considers him to be something else that is very important. Whether this has to do with the Yen Sid and Disney and the fact rumble is a toon correlation is unknown. Rumble needs to be scanned to see if he is also cursed. As well as interviewed.

Xur:

Xur, has conversed with Yen Sid at length at one point in time. During the conversation Xur reported that Yen Sid did push him. Xur after being scanned by Spew has turned up to be cursed.

Zur’s Statements:

At the end of each gathering, I always can feel new energy flowing through me from the Nexus, making me stronger. This time I felt nothing. I don’t know – he did touch me, once.

(the conversation as best described in story-format)
"I am Xur, Warmaster of House Ares, the House of War. Your name has been appearing with greater and greater incidence. As Sheriff of the Nexus, duly appointed by the Council, I would like to know what it is you want for or with the Nexus. I am not sure if you are an avatar, or some other type of being. I would like to know your intentions."

"Hmph."
Yen Sid hides his eyes under the brim of his hat.
"Dear Avatar, you don't know, do you."
He looks upon you again.
"Let me start at the beginning:
"A long time ago, I created the Nexus. I wanted a utopia to exist in,
and I succeeded in creating that utopia. That utopia is the Nexus. I thought it might be a nice idea to share this incredible paradise with others, and so I allowed the Nexus to 'adopt' others.
"I found these others to be malicious, greedy, and power-hungry when they were introduced to the energy structure of the Nexus. They abused it, used it, and were killing it and each other. The Nexus destroyed the first civilization to survive.
"You Avatars are the second civilization. You're the second chance. I thought that it was merely the wrong combination of personalities, intellects, and peoples the first time around.
"I was wrong. The second generation is just as bad as the first. All of you are following in the footsteps of your ancestors. You're all destroyers.
"So I came back and thought I'd offer a way out to safety. A way to avoid the destruction by the Nexus. To simply have faith in me, for I can offer no proof otherwise than my word.
"And I find I've been laughed at, scorned, attacked, and ridiculed. Fine. All of you can die for all I care. You're the ones destroying yourselves."
He takes a deep drag from his cigarette.
"Are you going to have faith? Are you going to let me save you from the Nexus? The maelstrom beckons my friend. It calls all of you to extinguish you. Don't be fooled into thinking the Nexus is threatened.
"Think about it: what's the difference if the Nexus is destroyed or you are destroyed? None to the Nexus. The Nexus will live on because either way you're destroyed, right?
"Now tell me, is it the Nexus that needs saving, or is it you?"

Yen Sid extends his hand out to you as an offer.

Xur looks at the outstretched hand in extreme skepticism.

"So you are the Creator of the Nexus. I see. Well, don't worry. I don't need saving. I'll be fine. There is someone though that I am concerned about. She is very dear to me, and I have heard tell that you have her. Her name is AElfgifu Germagath. Do you know of her?"
Yen Sid retracts his hand and leans back once again on the bench. "The elf girl? Yes, I have heard of her. In fact, I saved her along with a few others."
"She is no longer available to you Avatars. She is no longer available to be abused and used by you Avatars.
"She has been saved because she accepted me with faith. All of this by her
own choosing. Now she will not be destroyed by the Nexus as she has renounced her ways."
He takes a drag from his cigarette.
"You should thank me Avatar. I've saved a person you care very dear
for."
He pauses.
"Would you like to see her?"

"Yes. I would like to see her. Take me to her."
Yen Sid once again holds out his hand to you.
"Take my hand, Avatar, and you can follow me to her."
Xur again looks leery at the outstretched hand.
"I find that I am concerned about your true motives, but I must know if AElf is alright. If you give me your solemn word that this is not some base deceit to ensnare me, I will go with you. Do you give your word?"
Xur blinks for a moment, then pulls his hand away.
“I...I don't know why, but I cannot let you take me now... AElf...Is she alright? Can you tell me that?"
"Yes, She's fine. She's in good hands, Avatar."
"Good. That's good."

After a moment...

"What will be the final outcome here? Are we all to be destroyed? Is that our destiny? Only the ones who place their faith in you shall be saved from this apocalypse? Why? Why can't we just be left alone? Granted...some of us are fairly uncontrollable, but they have little power. For the most part, we are good beings, worthy of at least a modicum of respect. Are we so hated by the Nexus Herself that Death is the only solution?"
Yen Sid laughs heartily.
"Ah my friend, you ask many questions! Thankfully all the answers are
simple.
"The final outcome is my creation defending itself and destroying the
Avatars. All the Avatars are to be destroyed.
"The ones that place faith in me are the ones that shall be spared.
It's my attempt to save Avatars innocent of the heinous evils that many old Avatars commit. It's the only solution I can find to appease my conscience.
"Apparently the Nexus does not agree with your estimation of yourselves."

Xur sighs. "I'm sure that there is some master plan that is probably far beyond my mental capacity to comprehend. I accept that. And if I die, so be it. Up until recently, I've only existed to die someday. But there are a few avatars that truly do not deserve to die. But at the same time, they will not worship you. And that saddens me beyond words."
"But you don't have to die. That is why I am here. I alone can save you from the fate my child has deemed for you.
"I do not want worship. 'Faith' is the only way I can describe the method that I employ. I can offer you no proof other than what manifests in the Nexus. Why are you to believe in me? Who am I, and how could I prove it to you?
"Unfortunately this is turning into some religious crusade on the part of some Avatars. You Avatars think you're so damn smart and have everything in hand. How deadly wrong you are. Such is the likes of cruel individuals as Bron Price and those of his ilk. They are the ones to blame for this, not I.
"I am here to save you from destruction if you so wish it. AElf took that choice. She chose to believe in me, and she shall be spared. You can make the same choice, or you can chose to have the Nexus eradicate you."

Xur shakes his head.

"Your conscience? Please, spare me your guilt. Out of one side of your mouth you deride us as evil incarnate, and out of the other you seek to soothe your soul by reaching out to us. All I can see is some extra-nexal creature creating a Cult of Personality with tales of Armageddon.
Yen Sid's face contorts into one of anger.
"You stupid fool! Are you such a simpleton to believe that I shouldn't be angry about you Avatars hurting my child?! How dare you! You're damned lucky I choose to save any of you at all!"
"If the Nexus has decided that we should die, then that is what shall be. If that is Her final decision, how can you OR I stop Her from carrying out that judgement?
"None of you can stop it. Even I can't. I do offer escape!"
"All I know is that AElfgifu was taken from the apartment in NYC by underhanded means. As well, she is not well...she is still trying to cope with great mental turmoil. Very easy to subvert."
"It would do you well to remember that it is you Avatars that are the cause
of her supposed mental turmoil."
"Again, I do not believe that. I have far too much respect and awe for the Nexus to believe that Her Will could be altered by anyone, even "The Father of The Nexus."
"Listen you fool. Again, open your ears and hear what I say! I cannot alter the desire of the Nexus. The Nexus chooses to eliminate the Avatars and it is none of my doing! If it were, why would I be here offering to save you?!"
"I still await that proof."
Yen Sid shakes his head in exasperation.
"Why is every Avatar deaf? Are you all so incredibly daft that I have to explain myself repeatedly?! I just said I cannot offer you that proof. That is why I chose the word 'faith'! Look up its meaning in a book called a dictionary someday. It would do you well to learn a thing or two about human nature."
“Who said I blamed you? Most of the avatars don't even know you exist. But again, you lump us all together in one breath, then choose to save SOME of us in another."
"I can only save those that wish to be saved. It is not my choice in the end. It's up to you Avatars if you want to be saved. Open your ears and choose to hear my words!"
"And what would you say if Bron Price professed Faith? Are you such a being that anyone that said 'I believe you' shall be saved? If so, your words mean absolutely nothing. If not, then you have become God, deciding unilaterally who lives and who dies. Either way, I want no part of you.
"If Bron Price wanted salvation, then so be it. My crime is enough to warrant even him a chance, for it is the right thing to do.
"And if you want no part of me, so be it. I shall not regret your passing. You Avatars aim to destroy my precious child and each other. So be it."
“I am the Lord of War. Destruction is always before me. I do not fear it now, nor will I ever fear it. I weep for the avatars who deserve better than what may occur, but I would be doing them a disservice if I attempt to convert them to a...a 'religious crusade'...yes, that works well...by you."
"I am surprised that you haven't tried to impress me with fire and lightning and swirling clouds of light. As Father of the Nexus, you should be able to wield Time and Space with a flick of the wrist! Why not bend me to your will? Make me realize the error of my ways! Beat me down like the immature child that you KNOW that I am!"
Xur steps forward until his face is inches from Yen Sid's

“I am truly unimpressed."
Yen Sid regards you grimly.
"So be it. Your stupidity has proved your undoing and guaranteed your destruction!"
With that, Yen Sid pushes Xur back briefly and stands up.
"Threaten me? You're not the first. Go ahead you impudent child. Oh
Lord of War and Destruction, please feel free to strike at me.
"You want to be treated like a child? Fine. Push back."

Doinky:

(Information indirectly acquired)

Another interesting occurrence here was my meeting the mysterious Yen Sid, a Fedora-wearing, chain-smoking man who claimed to be the "Father of the Nexus". I secretly recorded our initial conversation and have attached that to the record. He seemed to take a particular interest in myself as well as a few other avatars(e.g. Jack Hawkins, Proteus, Aidan), claiming that if we only had "faith" we would be saved, by which I think he meant that we would be exiled from the Nexus before it was destroyed. Some feel that this man might be a Malkavian suffering from delusions; others feel that he might be some manifestation of Lovious Prime, trying to rid the Nexus of those who may oppose his eventual takeover. Yen Sid seems to have particular antipathies for certain "greedy" and loathsome avatars such as Bron Price and Lovious (the latter of which provides further evidence for the Prime belief.)
I am unsure what Mr. Sid means by "faith"; he refused to go into further detail, and, aside from my initial conversation, I was never able to corner him alone -- the bunny, for example, was a constant nuisance in this regard. (Damn Flemings)

-------

(what follows are "relevant" excerpts from my conversation with Yen Sid):

YS: My friend, times are strange here in the Nexus.
D: Stranger than usual?
YS: Yes, horrifically wrong. So much so that the Nexus is fighting back against its inhabitants.
D: When you say "the Nexus" what do you mean?
YS: When I say the Nexus I mean the child entity that surrounds us all currently....The child is angry. The Nexus is seeking to destroy all avatars.
D: Child? Why do you speak in metaphors?
YS: No metaphor my friend. I shall tell you another time. I will use an analogy though. At this point, the Avatars are akin to a virus that has infected the child. The child has now noticed and is seeking to rip you Avatars from itself. Indeed, Avatars are a sickness. Let me show you right here in the Cove. (indicates Alyn & the Fomacs:) See the greed for selfish power and the corruption that enfolds. (points to McCoy) See the madness. See the uncaring eyes and mindless hearts. (Points to Lovious) See the puritanical evil just waiting to explode like a bomb, and unleash itself upon an unsuspecting community.(Makes an encompassing motion with his arms): See them for what they are. Selfish. Uncaring. Inherently destructive. Arrogant. The ultimate denial of responsibility....My friend, you alone can do something about this. With my help and knowledge, you and I can save this precious child.
D: But how did you come to this information?
YS: Well, that's simple. I'm the father of the child.
D: (flicks his tongue across his top teeth). I see...You'll forgive me if I don't believe you right away.
YS: One way or another you'll be forgiven...
D: That proof thing we were talking about earlier...
YS: Well, I can offer you no proof. But perhaps if enough of the Nexus crumbles before your eyes, will that provide you enough faith in me?
D: It will show me that you're on to something...but your paternity would require more evidence before I lend credibility to it.
YS: I expected such from an intellect such as yours. Of course you don't believe me, man of science.
D: Well, it's both my scientific background and my humility...why would the father of the Nexus come to me?
YS: Perhaps you're just the first in a long series of Avatars that I seek to save from my creation?
.....
YS: But perhaps you should talk to the other Avatars? Mayhaps something is happening in their existences that may indicate to you something is dreadfully wrong...Visit Avalon lately?

Soon after this point, Mr. Sid disappeared. The Avalon thing he alluded to is the appearance of dark clouds over Avalon, preventing the sun from shining on this land.

The Lone Nut:

The Lone Nut has also been to seen to walk off with Yen Sid, and therefore has probably held a conversation with Yen Sid. The lone Nut needs to be scanned and interviewed.

The Lone Nut’s Statements:

Guiseppi: PRIVATE

Guiseppi is cursed by Yen Sid.

Nil: Did Yen Sid say anything weird to you, or just introduce himself and shake your hand?
Guiseppi: Yes, he did say a lot to me.
Nil: Such as?
Nil: Anything that struck you as weird?
Guiseppi: Yes, of course He did, I mean we made that deal and all.…….. I mean... no nothing too weird the usual Yen Sid stuff.
Nil: What deal?
Guiseppi: I don't know what you're talking about Nil.
Nil: You said it, not me. Look, this isn't a big secret. You want Aelf to be dealing with this personal hell he's putting her through forever?
Guiseppi: Fuck no, but there is nothing I can say or do about it until I get a chance to talk to Yen friggin Sid alone.
Nil: (sighs) Look, I'm trying to help, here.
Guiseppi: (looks broken) I ..... I just..... I just don't know what to do anymore.
Nil: That's why you've gotta talk to me, Guiseppi... I'm against a brick wall here. I have all this information and none of it is helping.
Guiseppi: I first met Yen Sid in a dark alley back in New York City, he attacked me, and I chased him off. As he was running down the alleyway I watched him get killed by a taxi, funny thing is that the cabbie also was the same person. I got his wallet, and tried to look the bastard up in the phone book but to no avail. The license was written in some funky language, so I went to the only Japanese guy I knew, Noldur Takari.

Guiseppi: I went to Noldur's dojo, to find him absent, but with his sword and armor laying around. I went inside, and called for him but to no avail. When I turned around there was the same man Yen Sid pointing a gun at me. I drew his gun but for some reason it didn't work. We talked for a short while him mostly bantering about how great he was. Anyways to make a long story short we eventually came to a business arrangement, I would keep his existence a secret, and he would spare me and Aelf's lives.
Nil: Christ, Guiseppi... I used to work for a Japanese Corp. Do you still have this license?
Guiseppi: Like I knew you worked for a Japanese Corp? (Tosses you the license and Yen Sid's gun.) Nil, I got's an idea. Just don't want to look stupid if I'm wrong, can you help me figure it out?
Nil: Sure.
Guiseppi: I think Yen Sid is a hallucination.. like a virus.
Nil: It's... possible.
Guiseppi: Why don't we take some blood samples and find out? Like Lovious doesn't see him so why don't we get a sample from him and one who does…? I guess I'm wrong... why would I be right? If you need me I'll be in the place of darkness.
Nil: What? Hold on now... I believe it's possible.
Guiseppi: Why would I hit myself on the back of the head... unless I thought I was hitting someone else... it has to be.
Nil: It could be some kind of virus.. but we can't think about it in the traditional sense, ya know, cause everything here is weird. Maybe.. an *energy* virus of some kind.
Guiseppi: Maybe... But that's all over my head.

**Did you notice the cabbie was also Yen Sid before or after Yen was struck and killed?

Donny:

Donny is cursed by Yen Sid.

Proteus:

Yen Sid manifested, to the best of my knowledge, on Friday of the spring gathering. I first interacted with the entity so named about an hour after its manifestation. Four people, all in one group, including Aidan and Doinky, spoke to it during the time between its manifestation and my stumbling upon it. What went on in this discussion I do not know.
What occurred after this point, however, I will report to the best of my ability. Yen Sid says he wants to save us Avatars, or some of us at least, from a great catastrophe. For very personal reasons, I believed him. His coming was perfectly timed to certain events in my own life, which led me to take him at face value and then some.
Yen Sid states that the Nexus was his creation, a paradise. Originally, he brought in another set of Avatars (this was the first Nexus), and they abused his gift, so he wiped them out, and started again... with us. We too, are abusing his gift, his child. We have been likened unto a cancer in the Nexus. Every time we use our Nexus granted powers for our own gain, especially at the expense of others, we hurt the Nexus, and bring the day when it will counterattack closer. Yen Sid claims that the first Avatars let things go too far, and the Nexus wiped everything out, killed all of them.
He claims, further, that this will happen again, and the destruction may take any form, and while I do not believe this is so, he implies that the Maelstrom is that manifestation. He claims to care only for the safety of those unfortunate "innocent bystanders", and would like us to believe in him, that when the day comes that all are to be destroyed, those who do believe will be sent to the plane of their choice, there to live out their days as non-Avatars. He claims the only way to stop this all from occurring, and even this is not guaranteed, would be to keep people from hurting the Nexus anymore. There are certain Avatars Yen Sid has named to be exemplary of the cause for the Nexus's displeasure, and as near as I can remember they are: Fomac, Amorpheus E. Bunny, The Ferryman, Bron Price... and there were two or three others, who I cannot remember.
I spoke privately with Yen Sid, trying to find any way to save the Nexus from this fate (if one will remember, I did state that at first I was taken in by Yen Sid), and nothing else was forthcoming, though he did say that I should be more concerned with my fellow Avatars, and less with the continuance of the Nexus as we know it. In that regard, he asked that I get as many as possible to believe in him. Well are known, I think, the tragic results of my attempts at "preaching the faith".
On my next encounter with Yen Sid, after my... deaths. I attacked him, with a mental attack, and the strangest thing happened... a ghostly reflection of myself appeared and hypnotized me, instead. I was compelled to "go away", and did. However, not being compelled to "stay" away, I returned, in time to witness a ghostly image of Kagato scanning the real Kagato. (OOC: as per the space genre power) Shortly after this, Yen Sid took leave of us.
I've seen Yen in the Cove since then, but the only really memorable incident was his mention of a "Vanessa", I believe the name was. Whatever, it was the same name as Lovious's old pre-Avatar girlfriend, the one whom I believe... was it one David Draxx? Anyhow, I think it was Draxx, shot her on the first Holistic Journey, or so the story goes. Yen Sid mentioned this person, and it's the same name, and what with the Dilopterup, and Lovious just in general, I don't think it's a coincidence. This might also partially explain why Lovious couldn't see Yen Sid.
Anyhow, that's all I know. Feel free to share this information, but please do not share this note itself, or the source of it, with anyone... unless, of course, it's necessary to save a life, or the Nexus.

Aidan Brand:

Councilor De'Vive,

I am afraid that my store of information on Yen Sid is somewhat limited. One thing I am reasonably certain of is that the corpse discovered at the most recent Gathering, which appeared to be that of Yen Sid, was a fabrication, although I cannot be sure of the motive behind its creation. As to the truth of his claims regarding the Nexus and his role in its origins, I have no evidence one way or the other.

As to his capabilities, Yen Sid has evinced a peculiar "reflective" power; twice within my view he has turned a Nexus Genre power back upon its wielder. He also has the ability to transport himself about the Nexus at will. In addition, I have been informed by Canis Major that communication with Yen Sid is hazardous in some way, to the point that she refused to speak or otherwise communicate with myself or anyone else who had interacted with Yen Sid. If there is some sort of psychic contagion involved, however, it is one which I have not yet been able to detect. Doinky of Renaissance has been working on the same problem; perhaps he will be able to provide more information on the subject.

The entire Yen Sid incident remains a puzzle to me. Any light that you may be able to shed on it would be a boon.

Query: Would you like a metaphysical or factual response?
Both.
Metaphysical: I would deduce that there is no Father of the Nexus since the Nexus has no father. The entity must be an Avatar since it could not be otherwise. There is no avatar power that reflects other avatar powers, so it must be an item.
As a result...

Thinking...
Dealing with the Avatar in a non-aggressive manner.

Return: List: Return: Yes.
Query: could you reflect its reflective abilities, thus nullifying it?

No: There is no such ability in the Nexus.
Query: if I were to enter observed data on the ability, could it be replicated?
Return: Answer unknown due to information not available.
Query: If I were to enter theoretically observed data on the ability, could the device be created?
Query: You mean design a new item?
Return: Yes.
Return: Possibly. Answer dependant on what exactly you wish to duplicate.
Query: In your metaphysical response to dealing with this situation, you stated that a non-agressive stance need to be taken. If non-agressive avatar-powers are also reflected, how woudl you handle the situation?
Clarification of prior response: If all Avatar powers are relfected, obviously dealing directly with the Avatar with Avatar powers alone will yeild no results.
Return: I would attempt a solution in dealing in-directly with the Avatar.
This is why I am dealing with you at the moment.
Return: I know of no such entity in the Nexus.
Neither does Lovious.
Why don't you tell me the name of the movie you wish to see?

Return: No.
Request: clarification of returns
Clarification: "Return: Access Denied.": The information you requested was not available.
Clarification: "Return: Unknown.": The information you requested involved variables which were uncalculatable, but are known factors.
Clarification: "Return: No.": I've calculated that all the Avatars would not be able to destroy the Nexus.

2. Known Avatar items.
3. Known Avatar-related events.
4. Known non-Avatar related events.
End of line.

Personal Notes:

I know what happened to Aelf. She was like a ghost. And Lovious couldn’t see her. Lovious couldn’t see Yen Sid either. Aelf allegedly went along willingly with Yen Sid. Yen Sid tried to get Xur to take his hand so obviously he could put Xur where Aelf was. Now. We could see Aelf, but not interact with her. I’m assuming Yen Sid can see and interact with Aelf.
Perhaps he was placed where he was by the Nexus and is dragging other people in with him?
Can Lysander see Yen Sid?

Perhaps it is Yen Sid who is cursed.

Who placed him in the weird Nexus where he is? He claims that he watched the first Nexus born. Maybe he put himself where he is(where Lovious can’t see him) or the Nexus did it to punish him or the other Avatars did it, thinking he couldn’t be crazy there, but he found a way to destroy them from his “prison”? ie. a power? He can touch people, but no one can touch him in an attacking gesture. I wonder if Aelf can attack him.

And this touching. Willing touching? Melena shook his hand… and now her fur is black and eyes are red, and she claims she has always been this way. Aelf must have taken his hand and got stuck in this world she’s in now, this.. shadow-world. He tried to get Xur to take his hand and when he wouldn’t, Sid got very angry. You obviously have to be willing to go with him and “be saved”. The religious bit is prolly a crack-pot lie.

When you attack Yen Sid a shadow of yourself re-directs the attack on you, but an in-direct attack – ie. one that it not aimed at him directly, can effect him. So this “reflecting” power is obviously static – something he does not control. Perhaps an item, or his own curse. Healing him prolly has the same effect. Hacking him he didn’t show in the computer, which either means he’s not an avatar, or this was reflected also. Then again, Iizak was never in the computer anyway but had a house and was for all intents and purposes an Avatar.

Therefore it is possible that Yen Sid is, in some form, an Avatar.

The curse prevents mental attacks from reaching avatars, and prevents them from gaining in power. This curse, it appears, comes from touching Yen Sid(or him touching you), but more data is needed.

(banging head repeatedly on keyboard)

A lot of this sounds like a wildly concocted story to draw people to wherever he’s stuck Aelf. But where is that? And who are these “others” he’s talking about??

“It is not my choice in the end.” He says.

What does this mean?

When is the End, and whose choice will it be?

On a whim, I raided Amanda's movie cabinet and watched Sorcerer's Apprentice, the Disney short-film. Apparently the story follows along the lines of a young apprentice who is tired of doing menial labor - not understanding why he should do it when Magic can do the work for him. When the Sorcerer Yen Sid leaves, the apprentice takes his hat, and uses magic to do his chores. He is getting his shores done, but gets cocky, and growing tired, falls asleep and loses control of the magic. When he awakes, he find everyitng has gone wrong and he can not stop it. The sorcerer returns, and fixes everything, and again the Apprentice is doing menial labor without magic aiding him once again.

Moral of the story as it stands? Don't use something you can not control to do something you can do without it.

Now, how this fits in with Yen Sid our ghostly friend, who knows. If he is indeed posing as a type of "Sorcerer" then the pattern fits -- almost. He claims that we are abusing our power as the young apprentice did, and much like the Sorcerer's tower was awash with water and chaos, the Nexus will be if we aren't careful.

However, that is where the comparison ends. Much unlike the sorcerer, Yen Sid does not claim to be able to reverse this process, only to "save" people from the products of it. So his name is almost inappropriate -- he is not the sorcerer he is claiming to be, and it is very possible that Yen Sid isn't even his real name and he didn't pay much attention to cartoons when he was young.

Yen Sid is completely untrackable because his reflection power is all-encompassing -- even to the Nexus Computer. Any scans for his existence will be reflected back to the computer.

Mission Lovious: "Well, Miss, he was sitting down, playing cards, and then all of a
sudden he just faded out, whispering 'no' or something. The dilopterup,
I believe, just fell off of his neck when he left."

wMany months late, but Wow... that really takes me back.  One day, I'll dig out my old hard drives and find all the old logs and stuff.  IF I can still recover the data on some them.  At least one was seriously damaged.  The "sack o' secrets", the hardcopies I still have, doesn't compare to what I used to have saved in various places.

Thanks, Anna, for the reminders, and thanks to Patti, as well.
