DC Heroclix: Green Lantern Corps previews
« on: April 10, 2006, 11:00:03 PM »

Yes this is early, and yes I know that this thread will sit here for a while, but I figured I'd start it now.

The second collector's set you will be able to purchase early by buying Sinister by the brick will be full of alien members of the Green Lantern Corps. There's not much information yet on this, however I do know which characters will be included. So without further ado, the list:

G'nort
Abin Sur
Ch'p
Tomar Re
Arisia
Katma Tui
Ganthet

Enjoy!!

Hey everyone, I figured I'd bring this thread back up near the front of the forum considering it's the next big thing after Indy: Invincible. I don't really have much more information than before except for a couple of little nuggets that I've gleaned from other forums.

Nugget #1 (From Seth)
There is a feat card in the GLC set...it is NOT an alternate TA.

Nugget #2
Ganthet is going to be an absolute powerhouse. For one thing he's going to have the Quintessence TA, and for another I believe his point cost is going to be somewhere around 286 or so.

Hope this gets all your mouths watering.

And it begins...Three figures from this highly anticipated (at least from me) set have now been posted on the WK site, and here they are for your enjoyment.

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=11334
First up, Abin Sur. The guy who gave his ring to Hal Jordan (generally touted as the greatest GL) isn't too shabby himself. At 137 points, he starts right off with telekinesis, barrier, and ranged combat expert. He doesn't get the signature running shot until his second click, the same time he also switches out barrier for invulnerability. That's right, I said it, a Green Lantern with invulnerability. Abin is one tough cookie. Unfortunately he only has that for one click, after witch he switches to two of toughness, gets the typical GL willpower and finally barrier. Other than the damage reducers, he's a pretty typical GL. After RS he gets force blast, and after tk there's some energy explosion followed by more tk. Oh, wait, I forgot to mention his attack spike on the the very last click along with pulse wave.  :o The corps gets another decent powerhouse, and I'm not complaining one bit. Throw in a 10 range and the GLC TA and he's very solid.

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=11339
Katma Tui comes next and seems like she's going to be the new low-cost taxi of choice. For only 89 points you get the GLC TA, a 10 range, and whole lot of other signature GL power. The one thing she's missing is tk, but honestly, that's ok. She's got everything else in moderation: force blast, RCE, barrier, willpower, energy shield/deflection, and incapacitate. The Armor Piercing feat seems like a given for her, considering she's got four clicks of energy explosion with a very decent attack value. She also has a random two slots of toughness for added protection, and three slots of phasing at the end of her dial so that she can get out when the getting's good.

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=11340
Finally for today, we've got Tomar Re. When it comes to GLs, besides the human ones and Kilowog, he might be the most easily recognizable only because of the big fish fin on his head. This in no way diminishes his usefullness however, in fact, he's absolutely fantastic. At 111 points with the GLC TA, you get a very attractive package that includes a 12 range. The only other GL with that much range is the veteran Kyle Rayner. Put them together and you can just go hunting together, especially if one of them has Trick Shot. Tomar's dial isn't very long, but you get plenty. Two slots of running shot up front starts things off with a 10 movement that jumps to 12. Also on his first slot he has perplex, which is always useful, and an 18 defense (!) with toughness; so even if someone manages to hit him it's always reduced. After that very impressive first click he seems to get even better. There's the previously mentioned 12 running shot, as well as some energy explosion, ES/D on a 17 defense (giving him a 19 for those of you keeping track), and the first of three slots of enhancement...That's right, if he and Kyle do end up at target practice, Kyle gets even better just by parking next to Tomar Re. Tk, barrier, and willpower all show up later in the dial, as well as a final slot of pulse wave.

And that's it for now. These guys make me very enthusiastic for the rest of the set, which should be out (mostly) by the end of the week. Enjoy!

And here we are with yet another member of the Corps: Arisia! This blonde bombshell gave her life for Hal Jordan against Major Force, but now she's back in clix form (and possibly in the comics as well, but I'm not going to spoil anything).

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=11335
She starts off with a decent opening click of phasing, incap, barrier, and enhancement; then she switches to tk, ES/D and perplex on click later while she keeps phasing. Yet another click down she gains force blast and energy explosion. Barrier comes back one slot later; and finally tk reappears along with running shot for the rest of her dial. Not to mention a final slot of ES/D. Mix this up with pretty competent stats, a very dependable attack value (9 9 10 10 10 9 8), 8 range, and the GLC TA for only 103 points. She'll make a very competent secondary attacker and with her perplex and enhancement she's a great support piece.

I can only wonder who's next. All we've got left is Ch'p, G'nort, and Ganthet.

And two more figures from the GLC make their first (and most likely only) appearances in heroclix form.

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=11337
First we have G'nort. Never really a member of the GLC, the lack of the team ability reflects that. However he was also extremely unpredictable, and for only 70 points you get a dial that demonstrates that perfectly. With only six clicks, you wouldn't think that there's much room for diversity; but G'nort has it in spades. His first click is very interesting with charge, energy explosion, ES/D, and probability control. Besides the fact that charge, which puts him in melee, doesn't really work with the other powers, it isn't all that bad. Then he gets even wierder. Tk, barrier, and...battle fury? With a 10 attack? You know what this means to me, is that sure he won't be throwing objects around, but he'll be easily throwing people around. A lot of people overlook the fact that you can use tk to throw an opponent using only a close combat attack. Barrier sticks around for two more slots after that along with a climbing defense, ending up at 18. But for those two clicks he gets incapacitate and outwit. Finally for his last two clicks he has another interesting combination of charge, willpower, and enhancement. This gives you the option of running in to attack, or hanging back and supporting your artillery. One thing's for sure, he's definitely unpredictable.

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=11336
And then there's Ch'p. The (highly anticipated) GLC's resident squirrel weighs in at a meager 82 points, but for that cost you get someone who's probably going to be the staple of a lot of heavy defense teams. Why is that? Well, skipping over his initial click of tk and barrier with a decent 3 damage, on his second click his defense jumps from 16 to 18 and he gains defend. Turtle teams are apparently making a comeback. Combo this with his GLC TA and he can carry around 8 other people who all of a sudden have an 18 or higher defense (provided they have their own defense modifiers like ES/D or CR). Also on that click he gains running shot, and a click later RCE. Willpower and force blast show up after that, with him ending with two slots of ES/D. I should also mention he Ch'p as well sees a rise in attack value late dial, as he has a 10 on the same click that he gains willpower and force blast.

Turtle teams away!!

Now we're just waiting on Ganthet. I for one hope he gets posted soon.

And here is Ganthet. I told you he'd be a powerhouse, and I was right.

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=11338

First and foremost, I have to tell you that Ganthet is in fact 286 points. He is also a flier with a 10 range, and the Quintessence team ability on top of that. His stats are something fierce, not going very low at all. Movement goes from 11 to 7, attack from 12 to 9, defense from 18 to 15 and back up to 16, and damage from 5 to 3 and back again. Now that that is taken care of, I can tell you about his powers. First of all, it's going to be very hard to hurt him. Besides his high defense, he also starts with impervious. Two clicks down he gets some barrier, which means that round after round he can protect himself. Invulnerability shows up three clicks later and lasts for four, and he wraps up with two slots of regeneration, which means that he has a chance of going all the way back to his first invul click. Now that's just his defense. For mobility, he's pretty decent: six slots of phasing start things off, with three of running shot right after. While he can't move-and-shoot right away, he doesn't really have to, as he can just park somewhere and fire away. Speaking of firing away there's his attack track. Ready? Three of tk, two of incap, three of psychic blast, and three of pulse wave. While the tk on such a high point figure is kind of strange, in high point games (600 or higher) he could throw out a couple GLs so that they can then running shot to victory. Finally we've got his damage track. He starts with leadership, which again is slightly pointless on a high cost fig, but then he switches right away to outwit, and again to RCE for two slots. After all of that he's got three slots of perplex and three more of outwit. So not only is he a beast on the battlefield he's also a hell of a support piece.

I hope you enjoy. And remember, there's still a feat card for this set coming.

And there is in fact a feat card that will be included in the GLC collector set. The full article is here:

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/products.asp?cid=41038

The feat is called Construct, costs 14 points, and requires barrier, which most Green Lanterns have. You can read the text of the feat in the article, but essentially they make barrier, which is already a pretty useful and abusable power, into even more so. It finally ties up all characters with leap/climb, phasing, hypersonic speed, and any other ability that allows for free break away. I say that it will be a very useful feat.

Not only that, but Ganthet + Construct = 300 points. That with his quintessence, means that those middle clicks are a little more dangerous.

Now I really can't wait to get this set.
