Sanctuary: (Da Mama pays a call)
« on: April 25, 2006, 11:35:17 PM »

Andromache walks through the especially green grass of Proper that surrounds Sanctuary.

She is dressed in a flowing toga-esque sundress of white and blue gauze. Her long, dark mane is twisted into a soft ponytail gathered at the nape of her neck where she has a trio of crimson poppies turcked into the band.

This is the first time she has brought her girls into Proper. She thought she'd feel apprehensive, but she doesn't.

Kay and Thea are strapped into a camo-blue double stroller with a white gauze sunshade. Kay is telekinetically ballancing a dripping raspberry popsicle in the air-- sweet end in mouth. Thea is trying to use tk to unfasten her seatbelt. Both seem fully absorbed and absurdly content as only babies can be. Hebemetaru is coiling in Thea's lap playing some tinkling musical kids song in greek, but the little girl is far too intent in her safety straps to pay much attention. The magenta stains on her overalls indicate that she's long since finished her popsicle. With a click the first of two straps clicks open. Andromache stops the stroller, walks around to the front, and kissing her, triumphant 8 month old on her sticky face and fingers, she clicks the safety belt closed again. She reaches into the net bag hanging from the stroller and gives Thea a teething toy to keep her occupied; and they continue towards the Gothic -toon cathedral. About a minute later the wheels of the stroller roll over the toy with a squeak, and the youngster is back to the task of freeing herself from her stroller. Andromache picks up the rejected toy and puts it back in the mesh catch-all.

"That's my girl!" She laughs. "Stubborn-- like your mommy." Thea's attention never wavers from her task, and Kayleal slurps her popsicle happily as their mother approaches the entrance to Sanctuary.

Upon entering the foyer of Sanctuary Cathedral, there is a glaring new addition to the landscape.  Near the entrance to the main chamber, there is now a "Take-A-Number" ticket pull, and mounted on the wall is a "Now Serving" numerical counter that reads "12".  There is a sign next to the ticket pull that says the following:

"Welcome to Sanctuary.  May your time here be peaceful, illuminating, and expanding.  In order to aid Her and The Esper, in aiding you, we have installed this number system to provide a semblance of order, to all those that come seeking his counsel.  We ask that if you do not have a standing appointment with Her, or The Esper, that you kindly take a ticket, and they will see to you in turn.  If you have any needs while you wait, or if this is an emergency, please speak to the nearest one of us, and we will be happy to attempt to fufill those needs.  Also please remeber that this is Their home, and that we ask you to show it the respect it deserves.  Thank you.

Signed,
Your Friends at Sanctuary

Please note that the tickets do not use wood pulp paper products.  This is done as a courtesy to our friends of the flora.  Also please note that if you are not present when your number is called, you will lose your turn in line.  The counter can only be reset during a Nexal rebirth, and there will be no exception to the order of the ticket numbers, so don't dilly-dally or dawdle."

Andromache looks at the new installation and chuckles. She takes a ticket musing aloud, "very efficient... 'to provide a semblance of order' indeed! Chaos wouldn't have anything to do with that unless he thought it would stir up trouble," she coos to the stroller. "Must be the wraiths..."

She looks up at the colored patterns of sunlight falling on the walls through stained glass windows and waits with a smirk.

Andromache's ticket is labeled "13".  Shortly after she pulls it, a gaggle of wraiths gather arround the stroller.  All of them are rapt in ooohs, ahhhs, and awwws towards the twins.  There's a low imperceptible chitter between them, like they're discussing something.
Another wraith appears in the foyer, and taps it's foot impatiently on the floor.  In stern, feminine tones it shoos the others back to their duties, and then turns to address Andromache.  "Hallo Mama.  Ahh, ticket 13.  You'll be up very soon, I'll wager.  Here to see the Esper or Her?"

"The Esper." she nods, then adds, "Sorry for the disruption." Andromache grins, clearly not at all sorry for the chance to show off her proudest achievements. "How have things been here at the Sanctuary?"

"Oh hush now, dear.  A mother hen is entitled to be proud of her chicks.  And they've been wondering about meeting these darling creations for some time now.  Things have been changing here, as they have been all over I'll warrant.  The Esper is on his way back here now.  He'll be here in just a bit.  Anything I can get you?"

Andromache grins broadly at the praise of her girls. "Change is good." she nods as she reclicks the latch on Thea's stroller clasp again. "Isn't that what She always says? Forest fires and whatnot?" Looking the girls over, she considers the head wraith's offer. "I could really use a damp washcloth. The girls burned through my wetwipes ages ago, and I'd like to unstrap them without getting all of Sanctuary sticky. Kay is happy with her turtle, but if Thea isn't free soon, she may start a full scale coup."

The wraith peers into the stroller at Thea.  "A coup?  Goodness gracious me, my little lady!  We can not be having that.  Not yet, anyway.  Just wait here Mama.  We'll fetch you some fixins for the wee mistresses."  The wraith then bustles off.
A few minutes later she is back, with a pack of wraiths in tow.  "Follow me please Mama.  The girls and I, have been industrious."
The wraiths lead Andromache into the main chamber, and then to a new door that has not been seen before.  This new door lies inbetween the door that leads to the kitchen, and the exit from the main room out to the training gardens.  Behind it, is a large nursery, equipped with 8 cribs, changing tables, a lukewarm baby bath, rocking chairs, a small stove for keeping milk warm, bottles and liners, cloth diapers, and seperate linen closet dedicated to the nursery needs.  There several wardrobes full of baby fashions, including midnight blue fleece, baby sized, footed pajamas, embroidered with intertwining silver and black roses in celtic knotwork patterns.  There are also VERY comfortable looking rocking chairs, with stacks of spitup cloths easily at hand.  The sunlight streams in the windows of this nursery, and there is a doorway directly into the training gardens.  The wraiths draw the curtains to block out the sunlight for the moment, and the the ceiling of the nursery comes alive.  It is painted in a midnight blue, and decorated to appear to look like a clear night sky.  A pale orb, in one corner, provides a soft and serene light, and is fashioned to look like a moon.  Vases, full of silver and black roses, are placed around the room for the last decoration.
"Mama, will this do?  Did we miss anything?", the head wraith asks?

It takes a lot to suprise Andromache, but clearly she is caught off guard this time. She blinks in the doorway with her mouth slightly open. Her daughters, on the other hand, are not thrown for a moment. Thea squeals with joy and points at the ceiling, finds the necessary inspiration, and then scootches forward out of her seat as both plastic clasps unclick simultaneously. Kayleal Giggles and claps, tosses the toy turtle in her sister's general direction, and follows suit.

"This is wonderful... You are all wonderful!" Andromache re-focuses on the escapees. "You'll see quickly that Kay is better at tk than Thea. It's a good thing Thea's the one with the overweening wanderlust or I might never contain them long enough to get us anywhere."  She beams at the assembled wraiths again. "I can't tell you how fantastic this is. Really. Thank you. This is truly hospitality and it's just beautiful."

One of the other wraiths nudges the Head wraith.  "Oh my, we almost forgot.  A gift especially for the wee mistresses.", she reminds herself.  The head wraith bustles over to one of the drawers and pulls out two, baby size, thick, dishwashable, plastic forks, with blunted tines.  "The Esper found these not too too long ago.  They tickled his fancy, and reminded him of the girls.  We've been saving them for when they came over.  Dunno if they can use them yet.  But it never hurts to prepare."
The wraith hands the forks to Andromache, and continues "If you're all handled here Mama, we'll go find out whats keeping The Esper.  We'll also let Her kow you're here, if She's about.  She'll probably want to see this."

Andromache's eyes fall on the forks and she bursts out laughing. "Yes, we'll be just fine here, thank you." Her eyes shine. Thea has managed to strip down to almost nothing and is rolling around on the carpet in her diaper and socks. Kay lies contentedly on her back gazing at the ceiling, her bare right foot in her mouth.

The wraiths depart, to leave Andromache and her girls to themselves.

Seneca strolls in a few minutes later, leaning on his staff.  He is beaming broadly, and makes a beeline for the girls.  He very quickly gets down on his knees to get closer to their height.  From inside his mantle he pulls out two plush dolls.  They both are in the shape of a very large wolf, with soft, deep black fur, and shiny button eyes.
"Hello Andromache.  Hope you do not mind me being a spoiling and doting uncle.  What brings you, and my two favorite angels?"

"Hello Andromache. Hope you do not mind me being a spoiling and doting uncle. What brings you, and my two favorite angels?"

"More like imps than angels most of the time, I'd say!" Andromache pulls a dripping wet, plush angelfish out of the nursery's baby bathtub and, laying the sodden toy on a towel, turns with a smile. "You may spoil your nieces to your heart's content." Spotting the wolf dolls she sits on the floor by the babies. "Look, girls, see what you're Uncle Seneca has brought you! Aren't they wonderful?"

Kay squeals and claps excitedly. Thea lunges in Seneca's direction ready to grab whatever is in range and topples slightly forward. Righting herself, she scootches closer to grab at his cloak.

"It's a good thing their wolves and not fish. They stand a better chance of surviving. Ever since I took the girls to see the progress on the Aqualogy Center construction they've been tk-ing everything vaguely reminiscent of sea life into the closest source of water. I had to put extrta safety latches on all the toilets, ceiling high forcefields around all the wate rfeatures and sisterns in and around the house, computer locks on all the faucets... I even had to put away their cute little fishy baby dishes because they always ended up flying into the ice tea whenever I turned my head at dinner."

"I told you being the mother of goddesses would be an interesting ride.  Just wait until they start talking, and then asking questions.  You'll be conducting more researches just to keep up with their active little minds."
Seneca scoops Thea up, and gets nose to nose with her.  He presses their foreheads together, looks deeply into her eyes, and then smiles.
"Besides moving things, have they tried communicating, portaling, or any other magics yet?", inquires Seneca.

"Well you've got the escape artist right there. She keeps turning up in her sister's bed. I have to tell you I almost had stroke the first time I went to wake her and didn't see her where I left her. I freaked, went to check on Kay, and there they were, the two of them fast asleep, snuggled together in Kay's crib. Since then I've found them together like that on at least a couple dozen other occasions."

Andromache picks up Kay who was mushing her face into her new wolf. She nuzzles the baby's hair and tickles her neck. "You girls just don't like being seperated do you? Do you?" Kayleal coos, and Thea giggles knowingly. She smiles and looks up at Seneca.

"The only time they portal is when they're apart." Andromache continues, "I'm not sure if it's even really deliberate at this point. I think it's probably more instinctual because they want to be together. I suspect the domain assists them too, seeing as it tends to give us what we desire. Luckily, so long as they're together, they don't seem to want to stray too far. For my own piece of mind,  I've just gotten into the habit of letting them sleep together from the beginning when it's convenient." She fingers her daughter's black curls as she talks.

"Just to be on the safe side though, I reprogrammed all the house computers to keep a more sensitive lock on their whereabouts and to notify me of any jumps. I want to know how far they can go and how often their doing it. I loaded the same coding into all the domain surveylance. I'm tinkering on a portable holographic projection display. When it's done, I'll be able to wear it on my wrist or around my neck and be notified immediately if the girls start popping around. I've got the basic programming done, I'm just working on making the reciever and projector small enough that it won't be cumbersome and I can fit it in a piece of jewelry." She grins, "I figure it should be attractive if I have to wear it for the rest of my life, right?"
