Cherry Hill experiment?
« on: May 05, 2006, 06:47:29 PM »

Since I'm not seeing a Southern Exposure III (I missed last years) does anyone know where and when this event may be making a appearance at another con? I have fond memories of watching Manos and writhing on the floor in pain....

If there's a Southern Exposure, there'll be a CHE.

And trust me, we have LOTS of pain for this year.

warning: any Uwe Boll films will require the immediate death of anyone appreciating it, as they are not of this world and must be purged for the sake of all mankind.

The Cherry Hill Experiment will not be held responsible for the violent deaths of the Voluntary Subjects under observation, wether the death is self-inflicted or the fault of another Subject.

Besides, Uwe Boll isn't even in our Top 100 (bottom 100?!?).

I don't care about bad films, but Uwe Boll is the antichrist.

Bah!

What is "Bloodrayne", or "House of the Dead" compared to "Carnival of Souls", or "Glitter"?

You should all count yourself lucky that this generation only has Uwe Boll, and no Roger Corman, or Bert I. Gordon...

I don't understand.  By that logic, House of the Dead was a great movie.

After all, the game was all about shooting zombies. and the movie was all about shooting zombies.  Really, what more did you want?

At least the dialogue in the movie was better.

And I can't imagine the plot/character of Boodrayne the movie being any worse then in the video games.  At least the costume in the movie was something a person might actually wear.

it's called staying faithful to the source material.

I'm still annoyed at the fact George Romero, one of the best out there, had a dead-on script ready for Resident Evil, a great adaptation of the game, and they threw it out for the garbage they showed (and I REFUSE to see).  I like Milla Jovovich, but I DESPISED that movie.

MK1 is usually regarded as the best video game adaptation out there, because it stayed pretty faithful to the storyline of the games. (just don't get me started on MK:A)

and Uwe Boll is known for taking video game stories and TRASHING them.  why I simply cannot stand him.

I think what St. Moko is trying to say is that there's far worse stuff out there than just trashing your favorite video games, like trashing your favorite comic book.  People who hate comics making comic book movies is the tip of the bad movie iceberg.

And if that doesn't convince you, I have four words: Star Wars Christmas Special.  I am convinced that was an attempt to film The King in Yellow.

oh, I agree.  just right now, Uwe Boll is in my sights, most assuredly.  was fun seeing X3 with people I knew... we were arguing the movie's flaws all the way home.

at least Ghost Rider looks halfway decent... I think Cage would have had FITS if they f'd up the storyline.

*shrug* I still don't see the storylines that he's supposedly trashing.  All the videogame movies he's made are based on games that have little to no plot, and 2 dimensional characters.  It would be impossible to actually make a feature length film out of any of them, without it being 2 hours of things blowing up, and the occasional witty remark or long rambling dialogue.  It doesn't really translate to a good narrative.

Take Advent Children, for example.  A beutifully done film, that really pushes the envelope for CG movies.  I thought it was average.  Why? The characters sturck me as very flat.  I didn't care about any of them.  I didn't care about them 10 years ago, and I still don't. FFVII fans will love it, but for the other 5.9 billion people on the planet, all they'll think is "wow! things exploded!"

My problem with Mr. Boll is that he's a profoundly mediocre director.  He really needs to make a drama or comedy, and get himself out of the "action" rut he is in.

As for George Romero, he's not what I would consider to be a "talented" screenwriter.  Apart from the original NoTLD, have you seen any of this other movies? the ones he wrote? like "Knightriders"?  As much as I was excited for an Arthurian tale of guys at a ren fest who joust on motorcycles, the endless scenes of dialogue sap the movie of it's narative flow.

Resident Evil (The first one, at least) was pretty good.  It took a very problematic story line (It's hard to fill 2 hours with people running around a house full of zombies AND make it interesting AND make it different enough from the first NoTLD to avoid a lawsuit) with pretty bad characterization, and at least tried to do something interesting with it.

If they made a movie based on, oh, lets say Psychonauts, and didn't change any of the dialogue or situations, I'd feel profoundly ripped off.  After all, I played the game myself, I want to see something other then what I've already seen. RE did that.  It gave me the things I came to see (Mila Jovavich and zombies) and changed things about the story so that I was actually surprised when I saw it.

OK, I think I'm done for now.

Ah, so it's a personal vendetta.  This I understand, for one day, I will display Michael Bay's head on a pike on the Hollywood Sign, as a hint to all the clueless @#$%& in that town.
