Soul Calibur
« on: August 15, 2005, 02:29:06 PM »

Just like Dennis said for DDR, I'd just like to say that it was great playing against such fantastic competitors for Soul Calibur II at Dexcon. It may not have looked like it at the time, but I was in fact proud to make it to the semifinals against the amazing players that took first and second place. I expect people to continue practicing and continue putting up a challenge just like we all did for each other in July. Personally, my PS2 probably will never be turned off as I continue to try and perfect every single move I possibly can for my chosen character. I'm even going to try different button settings and combinations, just to make myself better.

Also, anyone know exactly when SC3 is coming in? Unless of course it's already out and I'm that much out of the loop.

Walter

PS D and Ken, in addition to the normal tournament, I still say you should have an extra slot devoted just to RMPR, Real Men Play Random!

Actually, at this time, we're pondering the schedule and how we can do things differently.  We'll keep that suggestion in mind, Walter!

So D,

With the release of Soul Calibur III some time in 2005 (October?), what are the odds there'll be a tournament at the next DexCon?

Also, have you ever tried having a competition with something like Burnout 3 before?

Incredibly high. ;)  More than likely we'll premiere it at DREAMATION.

Figured as much.

So now the question becomes, do I even bother to pick up SCII to get in on the fun (assuming I'll have time away from the RPGA desk) or wait until III comes out?

Considering the fact that, during a recent trip to the Mall and the local Gamestop therein, I saw Soul Caliber II on the shelf for less than $15, it might be JUST the time to snag the game, and start practicing. :)

Oh please, like I have any chance of NOT being the guy kicked out in the first round. I'm planning on being cannon fodder, dude. I'm the poor schlub in the red security shirt on Star Trek who's only there to show you how the monster works.  Hey, I just want to play on the big screen for all of ten seconds...

Yep, that's me.

In fact, I'll WEAR a red shirt.

I'll have to see if I can get the word "EVERLAST" pasted across it so I can be the official punching bag.

Bah! Man, don't you worry.  I've been an Assistant Director here on the Electronic Gaming Staff for two years now, and I'd likely get knocked off first round too.  You can just ask Walter how I stack up against him.

Okay, I'll take your word on that.

Checklist as of right now:

Red shirt: check

Copy of SCII: check ($11.99 at Gamestop, thank you.)

Practice time: This coming Saturday. I'm prepared to get my butt whipped by the computer. Should be fun.

Soon, Grasshopper, you shall gain enough experience to become a Level 2 Button Toucher. (Be nice to your controller!)  And in time.  A Level 20 Strategic Button Placer Master, Eighth Degree!

Lo, he has set out upon his path!  Where his destiny takes him, only his sword knows. *ducks and runs, far, far away*

You know, I'm going to try an skip over that "button toucher" level...

Sounds like something I'd be reported to the moderator for.

Yeah.  I hadn't quite realized how absolutely wrong that sounded at first... Oh well. :)  Better than some other options. :)

Mal you give yourself far too little credit. I'm sure you'd do perfectly fine against normal players...

...of course, I'm not a normal player.

And also I'd just like to add that it doesn't matter if I win the tournaments or not, as long as I can keep on beating the VG staff I'll be content. :P
