Favorite Game...EVAR!
« on: August 19, 2005, 10:37:02 AM »

So what's your favorite game?

What's the game that either made you say "Wow" or that you just kept coming back to, again and again.

For me, I've got a tie for first place.

1) Ico. Yeah, I know. You've probably heard it a million times. But Ico was the first game I ever played that constantly surprised me. There were moments in that game that I just had to stand there and look around at my surroundings. I've never experienced such a realistic feeling of height as in that game. Years later, I think it still holds up. Even though you can take that game at your own pace I couldn't stop playing it because I HAD to find out what happened next. Amazing, amazing, amazing. And yeah, the ending got to me. I love FF7 but the death of Aeris really didn't touch me as much as it did some other players. Looking forward to the next release of this team, Shadow of the Colossus.

2) Beyond Good and Evil. Another underappreciated game. Again, constant suprises. Fighting, stealth missions, rail missions, racing, collecting, damn. does this game cover ALL the bases? Great, slightly cartoony visuals. Amazing story. Fabulous characters. Humor. Damn good soundtrack. And how about a decent learning curve, to boot! This is the kind of game where after it's over you still want to go back to it again and again to just hang out in that world. Now if only enough people had bought the game to justify a suquel...

So what's yours? What's the one (or two) game(s) you just can't do without?

Without question, Phantasy Star I, II, or IV.  Classic quality 2D RPG's.  Who needs your 3D sprites?

Favorite game ever?! No questions:

For Shooters, it's all about R-Type! Awesome music and visuals, and enormous bosses to blast to pieces!

As for anything else... Metroid!

What? No PSO on that list?

Definitely is Grandia for the PSX (I would play it on the Saturn but 1) I don't have one and 2) I'm not THAT good at reading Japanese.). But aside from that, to me Grandia is possibly the most beautifully crafted RPG ever. They have every single emotion pinned down to a tee, and the musical score in it only makes it 10x better. And the gameplay. Oooh. The battle system is classic, the maps are huge, the storyline is awesome, I can't even go on about this its just making me want to.....*turns on PSX and starts playing Grandia again, totally ignoring the finishing of this post*

No it is not Soul Calibur!

Now that that's out of the way, yes, I am very partial to fighting games and RPGs. But I have to say that for favorite games of all time it would be a tie between a classic series and a series that is comparatively new: Megaman and Twisted Metal. I guess I just have a thing for simple mechanical destruction. And both series have come a long way since the beginning, that there r very few installments of each that I was ever disappointed with.

Best game ever? Earthbound for SNES. Hey, the graphics weren't something to write home about, but man, the game made me laugh and cry at the same time. It was such a unique game. The characters, the plot, and of course, the crazy enemies. Hehe.

I don't know if I should mention to Cat that Earthbound was the sequel, originally called 'Mother 2'.  The original 'Mother' was for the Famicom (AKA NES)  and, from what I played of it, it was an even better game.

Yeah you can get the rom for it at a lot of places. The only thing though, all the characters looked the same except for Poo's past-counterpart. I mean I know its (M2) not a direct sequel, but c'mon. Everyone looks the same so why change Poo from a muscle-man to a puny little asian kid with cool armor and a cool sword? The least they could do to compensate for his lack of muscles is put him in Super Smash Bros. alongside Ness.

::Pulls the rock away:: Bah, I knew it was the sequel. ::Bops him over the head:: I just like this one a little bit better.

As for Tetris/Tetris Worlds, man... I've got to get you trying Tetris Battle Gaiden, Adam.... It's what Tetris Worlds should've been.... And yes... With NO TETRINAUTS! *SHUDDDDDERS*  Yeaugh....

TBG is now my favorite variant on Tetris ever... Mostly 'cause they don't mess with the formula too much, but do enough to make it extremely cutthroat without being... inanely dumb as Worlds was. :)

And Metroid Prime isn't an FPS.  It's an FPP.  First Person Platformer. :)

*bows down before the awesome fury of Tetris Battle Gaiden*

Any game that can keep EVERYONE, including an 11-year old Octagon-to-be, completely captivated is one thing...

Watching that same 11-year old slit throats and steal crystals while the pieces are dropping at MACH 4!! Oh yeah, this game's a winner.

Given the heart-attack I nearly had when the first-person aspect of MP was announced, I prefer to thinik of it as an FPSTDS (First Person Shooter That Doesn't Suck). ;-)

For action games, probably Splinter Cell, and I mean the whole trilogy, they all rock so much.

for a sports game, it's a toss up between WWF Day of Reckoning on GC, and WWF No Mercy on N64.

oh, and Conker's Bad Fur Day is up there also, not just for the game itself, but the multiplayer games also. (I'm talkin' the N64 version)
