Voltron, eh? 'Fraid not.

The original "Go Lion" series was pretty decent in it's day. I'm not sure if it would withstand the test of time, but I can't hold what was a good show responsible for it's adaptation. Smoothing over all the violence was pretty typical in the early 80's. Yes, it made the show corny, but does it deserve to be shown as an example of a truly horrible anime? I think not.

As far as the "Vehicle Voltron" goes, it's original show "Dai-Ruger 15" (or as we like to call it, "Dai-Luggage 15") was pretty dull in it's pre-american form, but not mind-numbingly bad enough that keeps you watching just to see how stupid it gets.

I'm reading this and I keep subconsciously replacing all "Voltron" references with "Power Rangers" references. Yet, it still reads completely correctly... ::flees from Diane's wrath:: ;-)

Here's a random thought - Cowboy Bebop?

BeBop on the schedule? Tempting, but at this point probably not. I try to avoid scheduling shows that are currently on cable and I believe Cartoon Network is still running it. It's still accessable and takes up space that could be used to show less common programming.

Tiny brought up the question of showing ReBoot and set up a poll. I'd like to encourage anyone who checks out this topic to throw in on said poll. If enough people vote for seeing ReBoot at an upcoming Double Exposure convention I'll work it into the schedule instead of relagating it to the "Viewer's Choice" late-night block.

Greetings All!

Just a reminder, send any requests (re: uncompromising demands) to this list. I'm starting to get a few but I'd like to be made aware of any series or movie y'all might think would make for good programming. Just make sure it conforms to the standards I laid out on this thread's first posting.

"Bleach" has been recently suggested, but I or one of my staff will have to screen it first.
An encore performance of "S.T.E.A.M.: The Movie" has been STRONGLY hinted at (you know who you are!). I'm also courting the idea of a whole block of fan parodies.
I'll be showing more "Azumanga Daioh" again. I might even move it up from the morning to the afternoon. It seemed to do rather well.
"Bad Anime, Bad" shall return. You have been warned!
I've been trying to find more game-related entertainment that doesn't suck (f*$k you, Uwe Boll). FFVII went over very, very well. How does a screening of the old "Dragon's Lair" and "Space Ace" animations sound?
I've already choosen the "Hong Kong Cinema" block. If you haven't seen "Ong-Bak: Thai Warrior" with Tony Jaa yet, you're in for a treat.

That's all for now. Write, type or SCREAM your suggestions. I'm hoping to have a rough-draft done before the end of June.

Till then, be seeing you...

Just a reminder, send any requests (re: uncompromising demands) to this list.

Uncompromising Demand: REBOOT!!!  ;D

As previously stated, I have the entire run on VHS. Seasons 1-3 range from "high quality on-air" to "watchable on-air" quality (most are high quality analog), but all are screenable. Thanks to Diane, I have Season 4 on high-quality analog from Canada. If anybody's got the DVDs I can't compete with that, but if you want tapes - particularly of the early seasons which aren't on DVD - let me know and I'd be happy to provide.

Though, within the Anime Track's purview, I'd like to suggest (UNCOMPROMISING DEMAND!!!  ;)) the following, maybe as late-night sessions:

1. A slot of ReBoot 2.x, the last four eps - where the Web Wide War starts.
2. Another slot of selected, plot-essential eps from Season 3.
3. A final slot of the two ReBoot movies (Season 4).

That gives you all the bits you need to know the story of the series, right up to the end of ReBoot 4.8.

you DO realize it was probably Brian who gave Diane all her copies, right?

I know for a fact he has everything himself, and I'll bet all of it's on DVD.

On the first point, I don't know where Diane got the tapes - it's never come up in conversation. I don't know Brian's collection in detail, so I can't comment on that (though he has provided me expert advice on Neon Genesis Evangelion, based on his collection experience).

On the second point, the series hasn't been released on DVD in its entirety. Seasons 1 and 2 are tied up in distribution and licensing arguments between several companies (much to my dismay - I'd love to get the whole series in a box-set). Only Seasons 3 and 4 are available on disc. As far as I know, I have the only copies of Seasons 1 and 2 available to Double Exposure. If Brian has them as well, then I don't know about it - either way, my offer to the Anime Track stands.

It wouldn't surprise me if his ReBoot collection is equal to or superior to my own. I'm just making an offer to help out the Anime Track, if such help is wanted.

I'm not deriding your collection, sorry if I came across like that....

I've known Brian for some time.  Frankly, I'd be shocked if he didn't have all 4 seasons, as he's gotta be one of the biggest ReBoot fans out there.  I'm surprised the first 2 seasons aren't out on DVD yet... I bet they'd be surprised if they put out all 4 as a boxed set how many people would buy it.

No prob.

Yeah - chalk it up to companies not knowing the value of what they have. I'm suddenly reminded of Cartoon Network's online poll of a few years ago, "What's your favorite Toonami show?" ReBoot won with a 49% majority (next highest, I believe, was DBZ somewhere in the low 30s) and got axed anyway. There have even been petitions and letter-writing campaigns to the company that holds the rights to seasons 1 and 2 - so far, no joy.

How about: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya?

Despite all the buzz about it, not to mention the popularity of the end-credits dance sequence with con-goers and cosplayers, I still haven't seen it. I think Debra might have it, but I'll have to ask to be sure.

I've heard it's clean enough to be shown almost anytime, which is a big plus. If nothing else I can see it via Netflix or Blockbuster Online to give it a proper screening.

Funny thing about the title, from what I've heard "Melancholy" isn't really the most appropriate term for the main character. But most people I know agree that it sorta works better than "The Near-Unbearable-Levels-Of-Boredom-With-The-Mundane-World of Haruhi Suzumiya", yes?
