** A hotel with a large common room would be really handy ... because then we'd all be in the same place and could -gasp!- roleplay together instead of separated rooms
Alf, please see PM.

Alf, please see PM. ** Apparently there was a misunderstanding of what I meant to say here - and if one person took it the wrong way then I'm sure a few others did.
1) roleplay together: the comment emphasizes the together, not the roleplay. There has long been an issue with people rp'ing in separate areas, where the community spirit of the game is lessened. As a matter of fact the roleplay of late has been pretty good, with people exploring facets of their characters and interacting with new people (not via combat but through IC conversation).
Dexcon is a perfect example of what I was trying to express in the previous post: we had one main common room where everyone met, allowing any given character to encounter any other given character with some likelihood of success. Also, with a common room, it's easier to bring peripheral people into what's happening (something difficult to do when the action is around the corner in a closed room)
2) the -gasp-: I have a sarcastic streak (maybe not as much as Dave G., but hey) and anyone who knows me knows my tone. It's not a mean-spirited jab, but more of a light-hearted rib. Problem is, within the gaming community especially, people take things in a much harsher tone than they are meant (understabndable in a medium where you can't read someone's physical or auditory clues.

What about some of the other hotels on 1?
theres one on Rt1 and Ridge Road in South Brunswick (Monmouth Junction i believe)... actually theres two at that intersection. the one on the corner has a nice ballroom like room for a large room and a few smaller ones. I went a bridal show there and they were nicely done.
Then theres the Princeton Marriot on Rt1 in Princeton in Forestall Village. I know it has two large ballrooms. (yay senior and Junior Proms being in the same hotel, but different rooms.)
both of these hotels are about 20 minutes from the East Brunswick Con Hotel.

I work 3 buildings down from the Holiday Inn. Then theres the Princeton Marriot on Rt1 in Princeton in Forestall Village. I know it has two large ballrooms. There's also a Westin, the Dorral (sp?) at Forrestal (across Rt 1) another hotel like right next to the Marriot, and a few others down toward the Carnegie Center. Not sure on the event space in those. The area is awash in hotels serving the business community, and a lot of them seem to be fairly low traffic on the weekends.

Alf Cunha Item GM The probem here being a lot don't HAVE a clue to begin with. Yes, they do take a harsher tone than how it was meant. I speak my mind very often. If you don't like it you can either settle it with me then and there with a "what exactly did you mean" or like most do, just figure I'm an asshole and go about your business. Oddly enough, I have a lot of good friends in the Avatar System. Why? Because they see past my hard exterior. Can I be mean, oh hell yeah. Just because I don't like BS doesn't mean I'll put up with a whole lot of it. Oh and I'm sarcastic as all hell too. On a slight turn of a tangent, it's not like I go to many cons anymore anyways. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote from: Alf Cunha on August 16, 2007, 01:14:50 PM 2) the -gasp-: I have a sarcastic streak (maybe not as much as Dave G., but hey) and anyone who knows me knows my tone.

I'd like to think I'm a lot more insensitive than a general asshole but YMMV.

Other possibilities:
I've heard good things about the Hilton at Newark Airport - there was a small con there last week, and the hotel was pretty nice to them. There is also the Crowne Plaza right off exit 135 of the GSP (Clark, Rahway) - about 1 mile from the Rahway train station.
