Random Rant: Jewel Cases
« on: August 31, 2007, 12:40:37 PM »

Can someone explain to me why, when they go to all the trouble of making CDs relatively tough, jewel cases are the single most fragile item in the known universe?  ???

I'm sitting at my desk, surrounding by a stack of perfectly good CDs which are (barely) contained by cases with broken hinges, missing teeth, cracked covers, etc.  And I frequently have to clean the showers of tiny plastic shards from my desktop and keyboard.  :'(

Who the !@#$#&^^%#@! designed these stupid things?  Are they still employed?  Why?  (I can dig planned obsolescence, but people don't buy new CDs because the *case* is broken.)
 >:(

Thanks, I feel better now.  Now if I can just dig out the plastic bits imbedded in my arm ...

And that's why we have companies that make things like this:

I thought we were talking about flimsy jewel cases, not PS3s  ;)

I wonder if we can get together and obtain some serious bulk discounting on this product. I pay about 5/$1 for regular jewel boxes, but even at 2 or 3 times that (say .50 each) it could be worth it to protect (yeah, that's right...pro-tect) my CD and game collections. And yours, too.

I wonder if they have double-, or quad-disk UltraCases? Doesn't appear to be the, um, case, as of yet.
