Describe Your House...
« on: September 13, 2005, 01:57:23 PM »

Folks,

There's been some discussion recently about certain house descriptions that are a smidge outdated in the rule book.  (Lilith, specifically.)

I'm working on 'story' for the Tea with Green slot I'm running in the Avatar System at Intercon XX, and was hoping that everybody who has ever commented (or complained bitterly, in some cases) about their house description not quite matching up to where the house is now would take three minutes and do something for me.

If *you* were writing the description for your house, as you imagine it should be, what would you write?

There are a few qualifiers here - If the exercise turns mean-spirited, it will influence my decision to involve the populace in how we present the Avatar System to new groups, so keep it constructive and positive. Remember that I'm collating information from a variety of sources, and might not use anything directly, though I will consider everything when figuring out how to present things to the players at Intercon XX.

Thanks!

House Lightfoot is the home for those that have decided to live outside the constraints of those that choose to impress their legal, moral, and ethical code on others. However, we are not anarchists. Our rules come from within, not from without.

House Godot is wher its members find comaraderie within when they would  not find it elsewhere. There is a misconception that we are just drunken partiers, but this is far from fact. Members of House Godot do get together to party often, but this is because we are able to get along well with everyone in our house. We also like to make sure that everyone is able to relax and enjoy their Spiritual Avatar lives as best they can, and in so doing, we like to throw relaxation events for the Nexus. We are also a house that has strong viewpoints on the governing bodies of the Nexus, but we wait for the right time voice our opinions or show our support. One this is for certain, if you make a friend in House Godot, you have made a friend forever.

Just to add to Liam's description:

House Godot is a universal and interdimentional brother and sisterhood of hedonists who have a strong sense of personal freedom.  Godot often have trouble understanding the idea that something is impossible, especially for them.  They have a strong ties to our friends in House Cledot, who have similar views of the multiverse.  Originally the House was a male only house, but through the words of Michael "Lovious" Smith when he said "Why the heck would we want to keep women OUT of our house?", soon women were admitted as well.  Originally modeled after Buck Godot, a heavy drinking hot shot zap-gun weilding bounty hunter, the shape of the house has changed over the years to a more politically active, and sometimes militant group.  Yet you can always be assured, that no matter how great of an enemy you have been declared by a Godot, that you are still invited to the parties, provided you come in good faith.  Over the vast time of the nexus from the age of legends to modern day Godot have been seen drinking, laughing, and kidding around with even their greatest enemies.  It seem that the only high crime that would get you banned from a party is ruining the fun or alcohol abuse (Spilling it).

House Helvetia has changed a number of times over the years.  The reason for this is simple – every member of Helvetia to date has been a unique and separate individual.  There are very few traits that can be said to be shared among Helvetians.  However, neutrality can be said to be the single strongest one.  However, there are a lot of interpretations of neutrality.  For some members, it has meant staying out of everyone’s business.  For others, it has meant attempting to balance things out – peace with the earth, or nurturing the spirit, or good and evil.  Others take this farther, enforcing the balance despite the wishes of the people who hold other beliefs.  And for still others, it has meant ignoring good and evil, and others take this still further and just generally try to have fun.  Neutrality can mean many things, and can sometimes overlap into other houses.  However, to be a true Helvetian, you should be willing to arbitrate disputes without bias.  It is in this way, that you can prove your true neutrality.

Just to add to Fel's...

Neutrality in the form of utter Chaos is certainly not unheard of as even balance needs balance.

House Octagon is far more then the "Hacker" description used to describe it. We are as much technologists as we are industrial revolutionaries. House Octagon represents the cutting edge of Nexal technology, and we continually strive to push the envelope to the next greatest discovery. Never content with the mediocre or the mundane, House Octagon strives for solutions to problems that all Avatars face, and solve those problems through the strategic usage of technology.

If the technology required to solve such a problem does not exist, House Octagon will usher in said technology. We are problem solvers, we are engineers, and we are inventors.

House Lugosi is a house for people who mostly believe that the ends justify the means. The use of mental control for instance can be used for a good purpose, though most people would choose not to be controled to do good, or just plain evil purposes. Not all within the house have the same goals, however most at least respect each other and can work together no matter how different.
House Lugosi has several allies, primary of which is Octagon, and almost all of it's members are quite involved in the politics that will advance their goals. Most organizations that are made up of scatterings of avatars have at least one Lugosi that is active in it.
Though the symbol for House Lugosi is a blood drop, most of it's members are not Vampires. There are a large variety of different types of people and creatures that make up it's ranks. Practically all of it's members will do whatever it takes to make things happen the way they wish them to go.
Lugosi's admire strength in all it's forms, and the head of it's house is usually the member that is best able to direct the policies the others will, at least mostly, support. Though usually classified as one of the houses of "bad guys", many within the house work to do good things, as long as it coincides with their goals.

Octagon

Technology for technology's sake. Push the boundaries of what they say can't be done, because *you* haven't had a crack at it yet. Technology = manipulation of energy = making things go the way you want them to go. As much as tech is about creation, it is also about destruction. If you understand the system of the world you can hack it. Creation and destruction, at your fingertips. Hack the planet. That's Octagon.

**  as a comments to mark's description - stating a house's alliances is not a good way to go about description, since alliances change constantly.

I stand corrected, though I do not see this changing anytime soon. You are right however Alf in that it is not usually a good policy to use specific alliances.

I dis agree with your correction of Marks description.
Each person is being asked to describe there house as they see it.
If he sees the houses alliances as an important part of the house the he is correct in his personal view witch could in the long run change lots of things.
If a new avatar would enter proper and Frigemal would describe his House using alliances, that could be the deal maker or breaker.

As per Tiny's comments here is the way of the nexus as Arwen Galen sees it:

HOUSE GALAHAD

The house is as strong or as weak as each individual, but that being each individual must carry within themselves the honor and strength to protect the meek. But of course there are some individuals that need to learn the hard way.

Simple oath for Arwen is:
Be without fear in the face of evil
Safeguard the helpless even if it leads to your death
That is your sworn oath.

How she differentiates helpless and evil *shrug of shoulders* that is up to her and her alone.

House Galahad is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm

Other words to describe souls in the House are defender, expounder, guardian, paladin, protector, supporter, upholder, vanquisher, vindicator, or warrior.

That being said as well we aren’t stupid either…ok a few but we are working on them!
