A Careless Strole
« on: December 20, 2008, 01:34:14 AM »

A blue sky hid somewhere above tall trees that shaded the beaten dirt path that a lone Lilith walked upon. With the day pleasant and the temperature warm, she took this chance to wonder out of Xenia and see where else she could go. As she walked down the path she reflected on conversations with friends from home and friends in this place she finds herself in, and how different her friends are. She wondered what the other heiresses of Gia would think of men who carried weapons for protections, as opposed to show.  Des was dressed in her usual gown of burgundy and gold with simple black shoes. Today her long black hair was tied back in a braid that was twisted through it self to make a bun at the base of her skull.  She carried with her a sack full of little sandwiches and some chilled tea for lunch.

As she walked she lost track of where she was going, but enjoyed the adventure, knowing that here in the Nexus, she does not have to live up to expectations of The Heiresses or be completely proper in every situation. She enjoyed walking without the chatter of the other heiresses who gossiped about the potential husbands that they were to have. Before Des left the topic of conversation was often who her father would choice for her.  It was agreed by all of them, that he would not be from the Kingdom nor will he be as high rank as her, Des was next in line to be ruler and was not permitted to marry for love.

A bird flew over head and Des watched it glide in and out of the trees. She exhaled and thought , “I finally Know your freedom friend.”

She smiled and continued walking. Along her path she found a small bench in a cool shaded area. It was here that Des decided it was time to sit and eat lunch.

(OCC NOTE: The word Princess is not in Des's native Language. Heiresses are on the same level as princesses)

A voice is heard in the woodlands before any form is actually seen. It's a female voice, but cold, almost uncaring. It certainly sounded uncaring...

"Careful you Noppera-bō baka!" a pause, perhaps a sigh, "By all that was, you have as many THOUGHTS as you do EYELASHES!"

Walking into the clearing was a dark figure, a man, or at least the form of a man, somewhat transparent in parts, though solid from the torso up. It was primarily black in garb, wearing mostly a long robe or kimono. Perhaps the kind one would be buried in...

Under a hood was a field of white where the man's face should be. A featureless field, an empty canvas. In the beings arms was a fox, sometimes red, sometimes white, depending on where the sunlight didn't touch it. The fox wagged its tail...

Then it wagged its other tail.

"Sometimes I wonder why I ever devo... why hello there." she turned her attention from the faceless ghost to Des. It seemed that the fox was quick to change the subject to something more interesting. "You're quite the new face. Well, they're all new..." she turned to more directly face her, laying one paw over the other as she rest along the ghost's arm. "By virtue of consequence you're far more interesting then this... pfft... nevermind him."

The fox leapt from the faceless ghosts arms to the ground, the pathetic soul nearly fading from view as it lost contact with the fox, who padded her way over towards Des, to take a sit on a nearby rock.

Des rose gracefully and turned to look at the two tailed fox with amusement and wonder before turning to the the second figure with a pleasant smile. "I am sorry, I did not notice you there when I sat down for Tea, if I am interrupting something I can continue on my way and find a different clearing to enjoy tea in." She lightly slides into a light curtsy.

Rising she looks at the two people before her. The ghost's garb stuck out in Des's mind. She remembered seeing something similar to that when she attended the wedding of another Heiress, she was leaving the graces of Gia and off to a far away world. although the ghost's outfit was much sadder then what she remembered seeing.

"Well, I imagine somewhere, somehow, you may be interrupting something.... but that something isn't anything of mine, so it's hardly worth noting at the present." the fox speaks, and dips its head slowly at Des' curtsy.

. o O ( Finally.... someone who knows respect.)

"You've shown proper respect to this spirit envoy, thus you may stay... And pay him no mind. He's as hollow as he is indentured. He... is a noppera-bō, a faceless spirit, though his name and his deeds are mine. He is harmless." the fox turns her head very briefly towards the ghost, who all but shrinks away from her glare, before returning to the fox's side when she turned her amber-gold eyes back to Des. "I would ask your name, and I swear on my tails, I ask your name, but I will not take it."

Des looked at the fox with a smile. "Well, if you will not have my name, then will you join me for some tea?" she motioned to the small bag that has doubled as a place setting for her tea break. A container full of chilled tea next to a small crystal glass and saucer, the container's lid doubled as a second small drinking glass.

To which the fox replied back with a sly grin. "Where I'm from, names are very important. To lose your name is to lose who you are, usually to the one who you lost your name to." a pause as the fox padded closer to the tea set. "That being said, you may call me Tsuki." another sly grin. "It means Moon where I am from, and the Moon and I are on far better terms then the Sun and I." a slow look upward before she continued. "So, what shall I call you, then? Though, name or not, I will join you for tea."

She padded closer still, and should a second cup be poured, she'd sit back on her haunches, taking the cup in her forepaws and giving an appreciating lap at the tea. "An interesting blend. Are it an you from the same place?" Well, it was cold and bland and lacking of flair or flavor. Maybe...

Though, the fox's tails did begin to wag. After all, tea was tea.

Des used the cup from the container and poured tea. "No, the tea from Home is much better. This tea appeared in my cottage one day and there is no use wasting tea." She took a sip of it realizing it really did need sugar, possibly a touch of cinnamon. "Names are strange on my world. There is the name your parents give you and that the rest of your class calls you. A variation of the name that lower classes call you, as well as one that higher classes call you. That name I do not remember, I was renamed shortly before coming to the Nexus. Part of the renaming ceremony erases your old name and gradually gives you a new one. My teachers thought something went wrong because I was left with a part of a name, Des. but Eostara said more will reveal  itself to me as i learn more in the art." She took another sip of tea.

"Oh good, then it's not just *my* opinion that this tea needs work then?" the fox made a face after her third or fourth lap of the tea. "It could stand to be less bitter, and perhaps more ginger. Then again, it could stand for a lot, but by then it'd be less *your* tea and more *my* tea."

The fox set down the tea for a moment, padding around the layout of the picnic.... "Hmmmmm, you..." she nods to the sugar, "... follow me." as she walks back to her tea.

... And it does.

"Erases your name, you say? How exciting." she smiles, "Without a name, you have no limits, nothing to define your beginning or end. Without a name, a true name, you'll find that there are many worries of the world that, well, you needn't worry about."

Once back at her tea, she takes the spoon and stirs in some sugar, taking a testing lap. "There. Hardly better, but at least it's less bad. Though, with all those names about, your story reminds me of Akuma no Karina, a very influential spirit back where I am from who surrounded himself with the stolen names of others, concealing his true name even from the Celestial Court itself."

"A clever ploy, until he fell to the blade. Steel hardly cares what your name is." another few laps, "So, tell me of yourself? You seem personable, and respectful."

"I grew up in strict social courts, that required utmost respect for those around you. Especially as a young girl who's father was the High Lourd, I was to be married off but follow in Fathers footsteps. I was not allowed to have an ounce of disrespect to anyone since I did not know if they would become in laws one day. Being respectful has followed me here." Des smiled at the memory of balls and dancing.

"I am not used to all this talk of violence I hear here in the Nexus. The last war back home was before my grandfather's time."

The fox gives a nod, and another lap at the tea. "Peoples begin treated more as a commodity. Something that seems all too universal." and the fox moves in the mock melodramatic, "Oh dear, Daishogun no Orochi is angry, feed him a villiage maiden." or "Oh no, the twin demons, Lechku and Nechku, stir up on Ezofuji. Send the youngest daughter up to the gates, to sing the song of supplication, and usher them to slumber."

After a pause, the fox actually gives a laugh, "Such simple folk, really." another testing lap. Nope, tea was still just as off as it was six laps ago. After a moment, she seems to brush herself off, her twin tails still slowly wagging, "Being respectful will indeed take you far. It may even help you avoid a war or two. Though... they too are universal. I was part of a conflict against a very powerful celestial force, and just as I had her throat in my jaws..... well, let's not dwell on past failures, shall we?" the fox returns to lapping, content in the knowledge that no amount of sugar will salvage this tea, short of pouring it all in.

"I grew up, as the term would be, in the woods of Nippon. My kind doesn't have fathers or High Lourds... We just are." she paused, smiling matter-of-fact'ly, "I came into being some ages ago, garnering power and attracting the services of many other beings. Various ogres, servitor beings, sentient wards, and a few servants I considered to have hakaku kaotsuki."

"You know, that little ... something extra." the fox gave a feral grin, though, that grin faded, "Well, then *she* barges into *my* island, shatters my wards, slays my minions, tears down my very accomplishments, and rather then *kill* me.... she banished me here, to this place... Jigoku.... Jigoku no Issen Kikai... The Hell of a Thousand Chances."

The fox composed herself, a shake starting from her nose to her twin tails, "I offer an apology.... I myself said we wouldn't talk of past failures."

"But it is from our failures that we learn who we truly are, and from our successes we learn what we are truly capable of." Des set down her cup. "If on your world you just are and just begin, how is that possible? Is it a form of magic?" Questions about her new acquaintance's world. (it is far too soon to know if she is speaking to a new friend.) "If it is a Magic, I would love to hear about it. Magic was outlawed on my world because Great Grandfather was said to cursed by a witch."

The fox seems more then eager to switch topics, especially to herself.

"Nippon is a place of high magics, though, no human truly taps into that magic. They pray and pray, or make bargains with those who will listen, and then they receive their answers. Sometimes the answers aren't what they expect, and they grow angry, or discouraged. As a... partner of Yami, it was my duty to ensure that the screams of vengeance and the general feeling of discord reached his.... well, reached him."

"As for me, I am a Kitsune. I am the very embodiment of magic. We are birthed of it, we swim through it. We walk through it like a forest path." she explains, "We deceive, we allude, we even tempt, if the case is needed. So, then if magic was outlawed on your world, then you are currently in the presence of an outlaw." another smirk. "We're born of the leaves, of the wind, of the water. Some are born of a child's laugh or a mother's cry. Others still..." her tails wag, "... are born of kaimu...." a pause... "... nothing."
