Thanks Avie.
I couldn't post that at work, everything I do is monitored and the strangest things get their attention (Interestingly LJ doesn't but facebook and twitter do, shrug).
Chuck is a young guy really and to be told 3 years ago that you have 10 years to live, must have been a terrible shock, but you know. Ten Years. You have time to make plans and save up for the double transplant that might extend that 10 ... I imagine that's why it wasn't talked about before that. A 10 yr wasting illness is a family matter, plenty of time to say goodbye to friends and not impose on anyone.
Then he gets the news that he's failing faster then expected and maybe there's a year left.
Hell.
People, if you aren't cherishing every breathe, and hugging every friend you see. Stop. Take a minute and please do so. Heck don't just include your friends, include that guy in Security, the lady at the front desk. Even the folks you just can't take another minute of, if you can, find it in yourself to tell them that they're all part of your life.
If you've got a spare dollar, head over to
http://www.transplantfund.org/restricted/patient-guestbook.cfm?pat_id=2727 and toss it in the hat for Chuck. If you have a soapbox (like a Livejournal account, or Facebook or whatever) make a post and spread the word, or just rant about how barbaric our healthcare has become.
If you can't do any of these things, thank you anyway for reading and maybe you could go to the link and post some encouraging words for Chuck and his family.
It's a huge task they have ahead of them, but I'll be pulling for them all the way.
Thanks, I miss you all
Tom
