Pillage, then burn.

Everything is air-droppable at least once.

A soft answer turneth away wrath. Once wrath is looking the other way, shoot it in the head.

That which does not kill you has made a tactical error.

There is no "overkill".  There is only "Open Fire" and "Time to Reload!"

It'll come Steve.  We just need to overtake their world, and stop worrying about getting that +5 Vorpal Sword of Smiting. :P

It'll never happen Steve.  To outsiders "we" will always seem like the oddballs.  It doesn't matter who "we" are.  From redneck fish noodlers(sp?) to NASCAR drivers and fans to pro wood cutters (not lumberjacks but the guys who compete with $20K chainsaws) to gamers there will always be someone on the outside who looks in and asks "WTF?"

I didn't see anything in these stories that went out of the way to portray gamers as weirdos which I have seen in the past so I was happy.

Gamers unaware of Dreamation and Double Exposure, and perhaps some outsiders, will see this and become curious and that is good for us; the rest can go about their lives and think what they want.

He lost me when he made the "girlfriends" crack.

I just get annoyed at lack of professionalism in journalism these days.

The only way to put out info that more appropriately reflects what goes on at the Con is to have it written by a gamer and released to the press before the Con. Then do a post mortem after the Con so the press only gets what you send them.  They'll still get it wrong but there will be a lot more about the games and social aspect and a lot less about the vampires, witches and warlocks.

I'll give you that one Steve.  The perception of gamers as introverted social retards may have had some merit in the past and does still apply in some cases I'm sure.  But conventions are very extroverted by their very nature.  The events and the atmosphere are very social requiring attendees to interact with people they may have never met.

Comments like the one you reference don't help to break that outdated stereotype.

But I will say again in different words, those who matter won't care about those kinds of comments and those who care about those kinds of comments just don't matter.

I actually have the start of an article written in my head because of this.  I'm at the point I'll probably start writing the rest of it soon.

I was around when the reporter from the Newark Star-Ledger started asking questions.  She seemed nice enough, but when she decided that gamers were associated with the IT industry, there was no changing that.  Despite the Reg staff mentioning their varied professions.

btw, I want to state I was moving towards a journalism degree in college before RL slapped me upside the head and put me on the path I am today.

any reporter who goes by the name of "George!" I expect to find on TMZ.com, anyways.

there was an article written recently about board gaming that was done VERY respectfully.  that reporter, we need to get to the con.

On top of that, the reporter sought out Gil and his group, which means he wasn't completely clueless to start with.

On a note of balance, they did mention that Linda and I met at a convention. So not everyone is quoted as not being able to meet girls.
As nerd alerts go, this one showed good looking people as well as those who are comfortable with being comfortable (including me in this). I have seen a lot of shots, this one really didn't register as a big one.
I think it was a nice light on what we did, and I think everyone presented well, even those not comfortable with interviews.

They didn't mention anything about the pirates, and they were all over the place at DM!  :D Seriously. I've seen reviews about cons with a lot more negativity than these. I thought the reviews were rather kind, especially the one featuring Gil Hova and Eileen Duffy.
