Saw it.  Enjoyed it.  Only complaint: they need a new Director of Photography/editor.  There is no excuse for going from extreme facial closeup to extreme facial closeup, at whiplash speeds.  It a goddamn bridge and an ensemble cast for christ's sake.  Take a few lessons from the camera work of the various TV shows and give me a few wider angle team shots.

from iMDB:

Taking advantage of the 35mm 2:35:1 anamorphic stock film, cinematographer Daniel Mindel caught as many lens flares (a photographic effect where light sparkles everywhere) in the film as possible, to create a sense of wonder that enhanced the film: "There's something about these flares, especially in a movie that potentially could be incredibly sterile and overly controlled by CGI, that's just incredibly unpredictable and gorgeous." Mindel would create flares by shining a flashlight/pointing a mirror at the camera lens, or using two cameras (and therefore two lighting set-ups) simultaneously.

I was very impressed. They were true to the characters while still giving something fresh. It was well done. I look forward to the sequel.

Went to see it, thought it was very good. (Crafty thinks the violence issues could have been solved with cookies. Cutthroat had but three words upon seeing the Enterprise in combat... "I want one." ... Of course, he says that about anything that shoots destructive bolts of colorful energy.)

Due to scheduling conflicts, Annette and I will be seeing it at an IMAX in New Orleans someday between the the 13th and 16th.  The second one is to come out in late 2010 or 2011.
