Special Events at Dexcon 12
« on: June 23, 2009, 06:39:18 PM »

I had an AWESOME time participating in Pyramid  and Weakest Link  at Dreamation. Are those guys coming back to Dexcon? I hope so. I know Phil Gellis is running a trivia contest from noon to 4 pm on Saturday. I won't be able to play since I'll be running a game at 2:00, but if you're a trivia buff, check it out. Phil runs a very interesting and entertaining trivia contest.

Correction to my previous post:  tentative schedules have been posted in the staff sections for board gaming & war gaming.  I am not aware of any general schedule that has been released at this time.

The lists are scheduled to come out next week (June 29?). I was just wondering if anyone knew if the guys that did Pyramid and WL are coming back. What about the guy who did Deal or No Deal ?

Hi Mike:

Mostly good news about the B-Boys and their Game Shows.

Bad news first.  We have no Brendan  :( -- his wife roped him into taking her to France for a couple of weeks, and the only open time her job would allow starts 7/3....

Sucka.   :D

Ah well.  He intends to reprise his presence at Dreamation in '10  ;D -- and we'll either either be doing TWL, or, if it is ready and playtest proves it to be as fun as we think it will be, an entirely new game that Brendan is developing...

...Working Title:  "Nerve".

Ahem... Well, that means no Weakest Link.  You've been there... it wouldn't be the same without him channeling Anne Robinson.

Good News:  There will be Pyramid.

That was my game all along, and fortunately, Brendan's impending absence did not prevent him, from colloborating with me on content.  Mr. Herlihy has been responsible for about 2/3rds of the content half the scripts, and all of the computer interface testing.  Me, I do the actual coding, and supply the rest of the content... We make a good team.....

...and... one of Dreamation's Pyramid winners has graciously consented to remove himself from this particular gene pool, and be the other B-to-my-B.  Yes, the Birnbaum will be working the boards on Saturday Night, as we see who can best give clues to whom.

Same game as before, but we have changed the bonus rounds, slightly.  No more prize points in the prelim rounds.  Instead, if you hit the Super 7, get 'em all, and win your head-to-game, you earn the right to go to an extra Winner's Circle in the Prelim's.  Yeah.. we keep looking for ways to make the old stuff bigger and better.

More Good News, and thanks to Phill Gellas for hooking me up with content....
Somehow, without an English accent, I will try to channel Richard Dawson.  Yes, I will ask folks to come up with the most popular answers, as we will present the perennial favorite:

Family Feud.

Don't applaud.  Just throw money.

Again thanks to Paul for agreeing to work the boards on this one, too.  Since I have no idea what folks will answer in the Fast Money rounds, we will learn how quickly Paul can type.

Well if Birnbaum was playing Pyramid this time, I would yell FIX!!  ;D

Seriously, that Dungeons & Dragons category just killed me and my partner last time. But I'm up for the challenge again, and I've always liked Family Feud. Looking forward to seeing you again, Bruce.

Hey, Mike... thanks.  Back at you.  You're one of my best 'customers'.

You too, Sinkuu... BTW, forgive me, but that is a 'Randy' pseudonym, yes?

I was concerned that Feud might be too Vaniila... but then I realized that it was just plain fun.
Looking forward to throwing the events for everyone.

Oh.. Two things....

LFM Family Feud Raiding Team PST

"LFM"?  "PST"?

... and for D&D categories and their ilk, we will, mostly try to keep the categories in the general knowledge area, but .. where the topic is even slightly obscure, most of the clues will be accessible anywhere... for example, in D&D one fo the clues was "elf"... another was "adventure".... yeah, it helps if you are tuned in to the genre, but you didn't HAVE to be to know the words.

In general, we are trying average at least one topic per game that is either gaming related or "in genre" or at least "near genre" for a gaming con.. but where that happens at most 2 of the clues will be "niche", and usualy no more than one.... In fact, we try for that ratio in every category.

Happy to get feedback after the game on anything content or play flow related.  Can;t change the past, but we can keep improving things going forward... Hey... we have a "brand", now... that's cool stuff.

Just sign up together then.  Feud will be first come first served.  No qualifier, or random draw.
We can run with fewer, but there will be two games, with two teams, with up to five per team.
If you sign up together and ask to be on the same team, you probably will be.

So, Pre-reg means that if you show up AT GAME TIME, you are in.

Well, well. Dexcon XII is in the history books, the smoke has mostly settled and the Family Feud and Pyramid games were FANTASTIC. My "family team" kicked you-know-what in the FF game, getting double score of the previous team and winning the fast money round. I also made it as a finalist in the Pyramid competition on Saturday, almost winning the semifinals Winner's Circle and getting only three of six in the finals board. Not to brag, but we may have done better if I was giving the clues, but what's done is done. I ended up winning $30 in vendors money which I will use to get a Beatles Monopoly game. I just want to thank Bruce for his effort in putting those shows together, and "Bulova" Paul Birnbaum for his help on the computer. I'll never forget that one category:

My partner: "I'm wearing pajamas, I'm running the convention."

Me: "What Vinny might say." Classic
