general rule?
« on: August 21, 2009, 06:27:18 PM »

is there any general rule stating if you can do something in real life you can do it in game regardless of how much xp or what not it costs or something similar.
EXAMPLE: you can speak Russian in real life so you can thus take the Russian language trait even if your shy a couple or you outright dont have the xp at all.

Some Larp's require points but normally for languages its very low i.e. Vampire: The masquerade when building a character you can simply spend 1 point to gain a new language.  In others like Avatar system if your character is russian  and u can speak russian IRL hey even better rock it out but who else playing the game can speak russian and/or understand russian IRL thats the key thing. All systems have there own little symbol they use for when your speaking in another language. I normally just make a L symbol with my right hand and anyone walking by or listening im i let them know out of game that im speaking in a language and what language it is so if they have it as well they can either listen or join in.

There is usually not a hard fast rule about that stuff, best bet is sit down with the GM ahaead of time and work it out since LARPS are mostly about roleplaying. The exception would be stuff like in real life, you were an expert Marksman, you probably would not start with such a high skill level.
