What are the chances of having this for the next Big Show?

Impossible.  This is a Steam based game and my boys simply will not run Steam games.  At least not until we've discovered a way to get around Valve's internet connection requiring stupidity.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Actually, if you load all the games from the net like at least once, you can switch to offline mode and play. I do this all the time for HL2 and CS:S when I'm in my Study Hall.

The internet 'issue' made itself know at Dexcon.

For the record: I HATE STEAM!  Angry

This was tried at SE2 (before, during, and after during the ultra-super-secret WAP test)

Steam (aka a pos) will not function without an internet connection.

In addition to that, the pos requires one account per computer.

BTW:  DoD:S is not a free add-on

If you sign on on one computer, update CS:S, then disconnect, then repeat for each PC, then take away the internet (leaving the PCs connected to each other) and use offline mode, it should work. And Steam DOES function without the internet. I do it all the time to make my own server and practice with bots in CS:S and do story mode in HL2. Here's some screens of the process if you don't believe me.

Logging onto offline mode with my account:

Game list in offline mode (HL2 is gray because I haven't used it since I reformatted last. The highlighted games are able to be played in offline mode):

Starting up CS:S in offline mode:

And CS:S in offline mode (note the Steam icon in the bottom right-hand corner with the offline mode dots as proof):

So I think it might work. Try it at a house LAN or at Dreamation. If it works, whoopee. If not then I agree with Ted that Steam is a p.o.s. Grin

It'd require some time for prep work...but it does look feasible, if not obnoxious.  We still have the issue that DOD: Source is not a freebie.  I also am still not convinced that supporting Valve is the best of ideas.  But I will consider this solution.  Thanks Dennis.

For the record...The above is correct. We do it all the time. Everything you need to know is at www.steampowered.com. And yes, I hate STEAM too...
