Let the dice roll where they may.

I recently looked into this. Currently, there is no BGHOF (for short) but there is a Toys Hall of Fame in Rochester NY. Monopoly, Scrabble and Candy Land are in it.

Now, if there was a Board Games Hall of Fame, and you could nominate any 10 board games to put in, which 10 would you pick? Here are my choices:

Monopoly
Scrabble
Clue
Boggle
Risk
Scattergories
Pictionary
The Game of Life
Trivial Pursuit
Apples to Apples

So let's hear from you. What are your 10 games for the BGHOF?

I have intentionally avoided 'mass market' or 'licence' games as they are generally covered by the Toy HoF

Historic Games:
Civilization (Avalon Hill)
Republic of Rome (Avalon Hill)
Diplomacy (Avalon Hill)
World in Flames (Australian Design Group)
Mystery Rummy: Jack the Ripper (US Games Systems)
Hannibal: Rome v Carthage (Avalon Hill)
Operation Olympic (SPI)
The Longest Day (Avalon)
Paths of Glory (GMT)
Empires of the Middle Ages (SPI)

Ahistoric / Sci-Fi / Abstract:
Die Macher (Various)
Acquire (Avalon Hill)
Arkham Asylum (Chaosium)
Button Men (Cheapass Games)
Junta (West End Games)
Twilight Imperium (Fantasy Flight Games)
Kill Doctor Lucky (Cheapass)
Blood Bowl (Games Workshop)
Horus Heresy (Games Workshop)
Last Night on Earth (Flying Frog)

The topic also begs the question, "What, exactly, is a BOARD game?"

But to give it a go, my first-line ten nominees, based on my own personal preferences, would include:

Cosmic Encounter
Illuminati!
Risk!
Battleship
Scrabble
Mouse Trap
(and there was another Rube Goldberg-type game called "Crazy Clock")
Trivial Pursuit

one of my personal favorite word games:
Jotto

and these two true classics:
Backgammon
Chess

I've avoided mentioning home-versions of the classic television game shows:
Jeopardy!
Password
, and
The X-Thousand Dollar Pyramid

And there's the new breed of classic:
Settlers of Catan
Ticket to Ride
Blokus
Bootleggers
(a favorite which seems to be fading)

Do we count card games?
Magic: the Gathering
Dominion

and even Apples to Apples
