Denerim is the central city in all of Ferelden, with the government of the young King Cailin as well as the heart of commerse based out of this walled city. In the third year of King Cailin’s rule, a landsmeet has been called by the leaders of Ferelden to install a new bann in the Southron Hills, a leader of a group of settlers who wish to take up farming in the Southron Hills to establish a town on the edge of the Korcari Wilds, just south of Lothering. This would place these Ferelden settlers dangerously close to the infamous Wilds and their many dangers, but the men and women involved are hearty and have petitioned the king for lands owed to them. They are moving from the east, where tensions with the Dalish in the Brecilian Forest have made expansion there nigh impossible without bloodshed and the King has granted their petition. Bann Donnell is being institutded as their leader, as he has proven himself in many ways an able leader as well as a war-master in their skirmishes with the Dalish.
And so a landsmeet has been called, with many people from across Denerim using this as a good excuse to come to the capitol city and get a look at their new king. So far, the young King has spent much of his time touring his kingdom and learning the ropes, becoming acquainted with his court, but this is the true first case of the institution of a landsmeet in a very long time. Not since his public marriage to Queen Anora has he been so accessible to the public, making passage through the city to meet with officials and with delegations from all over. So people flock to Denerim to gain access, curry favor, and carry out what business they have – good and bad. Representatives from every major organization, including the Chantry and the Circle of Magi are arriving, as well as an unprecidented representation from the dwarven kingdom. There are even rumors that a representative of the Grey Wardens will show themselves at the event. They have been secluded and much missed from the court recently, spending time rebuilding and refortifying the old citadel of Ogrimmar. One wonders what they’ve been up to…
