Folks,

In case you aren't following along on Facebook, we've got an interesting and far-reaching plotline developed for DEXCON.

Several LARPs, many tabletop RPGs, all non-DENCC, non-Cash prize Board Games, Outdoor Sports and Electronic Gaming are all participating.  Envelopes containing MOGWIPs (Mysterious Objects of Great Worth and Intriguing Power) will be awarded by each participating game.

The method of determining who receives the MOGWIP envelope will be based on the game and the circumstances.  For example, tabletop roleplaying games will be to GM discretion or player voting.  One of the LARPs is going to treat them as WYSIWYG items, with value in their game as well as in the Nexus.  Board games will award the MOGWIP to the winner of the game.

I have two purposes in this plotline - the first is to circulate "us" into various areas of the convention that we might not visit otherwise (outdoor sports, for example) to play with folks we might not meet otherwise.  The second, of course, is to increase the visibility of the Avatar System to non-Avatar players, and possibly entice folks to come and give it a shot.

Participating games will be clearly marked on Big Board.

Questions Once these items come into circulation are they stealable IG and also can they be OOG coerced from people that accually won these prizes if of course they are not gonna join the system.  I remember we did this with the 3 tier items were we needed to run around and get it from everyone and most were tossed or horded then never used.

There will be PLENTY of places to get the items, so don't worry that they're going to get tossed.  If somebody wins a MOGWIP and doesn't wish to pursue the system, you can, of course, obtain it from them.  HOWEVER, encouraging folks to join the system and to be involved in the MOGWIP process will be MUCH more lucrative.

I think everybody will be pleasantly surprised by how HARD it's going to be to horde these little bits of Nexal pretty in a plot-stalling fashion. In fact, given the current structure, I can't imagine anybody managing to stop progress.  There are just too many variables and too many venues for obtaining MOGWIP.

There will be CLEAR rules regarding IC theft and looting.  And yes, it will absolutely be slanted to give "littles" a fair chance at having a good time with the plot, without being raked over the coals by more established players.

who you, with raking new players over the coals?  Nah.  For all the strife we've ever had, squashing new players has never been something you've done. :-) stalling progress? Sure.  But as a GM team, it's our job to make sure you don't become enough of a roadblock to kill anything vital, while making sure you don't feel _completely_ thwarted.  It's a fine balance, that.

So, in other news, we're putting together the MOGWIP packets tonight.

and we're going to come up with our strategy for marking MOGWIP games on the big board with Rob this weekend.

But for folks who are scheduling their weekends now, all IGE games will be MOGWIP sources, as will all NAGA games.

Outdoor Sports will offer MOGWIP to winners, as will Pencil Puzzles, EG and all non-DENCC, non-cash prize Board Gaming Tournaments.

The list of participating LARPs is forthcoming, as soon as Andy gets back from supply shopping to compile the list for me.

Random thought will there be people walking around like say ohh Paul B., like the one year where he had a lot of random questions and if ya get them right you receive a MOGWIP??  Oh on the lines of that?

There will be a couple of "interesting" distribution points - at least one person at Registration will have MOGWIP to pass out, if you interact with him, for example.  More announcements will be posted near Big Board.

I just wanted to point out that as per a discussion that I had with Avie, this can only happen during non-peak periods - in other words at times when registration is slow and not dealing with other tasks.    I don't want to have to turn people seeking the items away, but my first concern is dealing with registration issues.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.
