I arrived at Dexcon on Friday with 10 minutes to spare. Said my ‘hellos’ to people and kept on getting told to shut up by John (Starfox) because Lightfoot has more than Ares even though they got more members that con. I watched the different groups get together to discuss all their things and wondered to myself, “why am I here’? The time slot ended about an hour early so I spent that hour saying my ‘hellos’ to people that I knew and missed and had lunch at the Qube. At 2PM, I got into a 1st edition D&D game with my bud Joe Bloch running it, Castle of the Mad Arch Mage. The game takes place in the Realm of Greyhawk. It was one of the older worlds made by TSR and I happen to like playing in the world of Greyhawk. I had a great time. Then it was off to ‘Lin’s’ for some dinner. It would have worked out better if they had more than just one person that spoke English there. Still, good chicken wings. On to my 8PM game with Joe, Tomb of Horrors. I never played the game and was always a little intimidated by it. There was a trap that the whole party got caught in. About 45 minutes later, I happen to mention that I had a ‘disintegrate’ spell available. Rebecca (Durina) looked at me, ‘Now you decide to tell us this’? Well, I used the spell and we were out. The DM tells us that there were only four ways out of that trap. Disintegrate was one of them. At the end, it seemed like all we ended up was being humiliated. But we still had a good time. I had taken an energy drink to keep me up for the game. I had only gotten about a total of 3 hours sleep the night before. I was too tied to play the Deadlands game at midnight. I went to my room and fell asleep. Next thing I knew, it was noon. I crashed hard. One of the side effects of those energy drinks. Had a slice of pizza for lunch at Villa’s. 2PM was a Shadowrun game for me. I played a Wolf Shaman and I wasn’t ‘hip’ with the rules in the new book. I hate new rules. Hell, The Hero System is up to their sixth edition. Pisses me off. The GM was from Philadelphia or near by. He had a model of a chopper with the Philadelphia Eagles paint all over it. I just had to show it to Tim (Norton) because I know what a big Philly fan he is for the teams. I didn’t do too much in that game. Went to Villas for dinner and the people there while used to conventions, don’t handle a lot of people well. We did get a 50% discount because of the things we had to go through there. Barely got back in time for my 8PM Shadowrun game. I played the same character with a little cash in his pocket. He described the white noise generators in the game. On a segway, I told him that Bron had those same devices in the Cove. One thing led to another and I mentioned how my group, the Flying Monkeys had thrown two Shadowrun Larps about 5 years ago. Half the table Looked at me and said, ’I thought you looked familiar’. It’s a nice ego rush when after all those years, people still want you to do it again. After the game, I went into the con suite and saw that a TV with a DVD player was there. I asked Andy if I could use it. I told him that I had Gamers and Dorkness Rising with me. He said go up and get them. I ran up to my room and back down with the DVDs. I waited until Wall E was over (no one was watching it). I popped in Gamers. People that walked in would say, “I’ve heard of this, always wanted to see it’. I watched that for about 90 minutes. I then popped in Dorkness Rising and slowly noticed I was getting a crowd behind me. These two movies are the quinsitential vids at what gaming is about and NEED to be shown at cons. I’m glad to finally have done so. I always have a good time at DE cons. I get to meet old buds and make new friends. See y’all at Lugosi Con.
