This is a place holder - text will be coming, welcoming new Avatars who happen to be Dystopia Rising players to the system.

Don't be a smart alec, boy.  ;-)

So, the Avatar System is an organic, year-long LRPG. (Different, somewhat, from a LARP.  Hopefully you guessed that because the acronym is different.)  A Living Role Playing Game is a hybrid LARP/Tabletop/MORPG/collaborative storytelling game.  We're a little bit of everything.  Sometimes our players go off and play in other folks' games, for in-game benefit in the Nexus.  Sometimes there's theater-style LARPing. Sometimes we tabletop. Sometimes we meet online to hash out storylines, play them out, resolve conflict, etc.

The game setting is incredibly flexible - our primary setting is a place called The Nexus.  It's based on standard chaos theory, Jurassic-Park style multiversal reality - we happen at the place that all the energies of all the alternate universes in the *multiverse meet.  However, within the Nexus, anything is possible.  So, again, setting is incredibly flexible.

What type of character can you play?  Anything that allows you good roleplay within the system.  We've had a hyper emotive bowl of potato soup. We have sentient, telepathic celestial otters. we have slayers, we have spies and diplomats and doctors.  We strongly suggest that you take advantage of the in-game mechanic of Nexus Amnesia - start out with a general idea. "Sorority Girl" is a good example.  Within that framework, you can build an ever-increasingly complex personality that grows based on the experiences of the character and fill backstory as you go.  Pick a gender and a genre, and from there, you're ready to get started.

The rulebook is available in PDF form at:

*(If you're up on the difference between omniverse and multiverse, squint a little, ok? Yes, we're misusing multiverse, but we were using it according to conventional nomenclature when 1.0 was written. We're debating an update so we don't sound like we're mangling current theoretical physics-speak, but aren't there yet.)

It's the awesomest ever game of cops and robbers and cowboys and indians (for the non-PC), with a complete set of rules so it doesn't break down into throwing clods of dirt at each other. The bestest!

If you ever read a book or watched TV or a movie and said I want to be THAT person, or simply daydreamed about being somebody else, this is teh place to do it!

The Avatar System was originally designed to co-exist with and be complimented by all of your various other geekeries.  Tabletop campaign? Great. your Avatar can have the knowledge your character gained there.  Boffer campaign? Great! That too.  Need to solve a problem, in character, and your favorite book/movie/video game has The Answer? Great. Read it/watch it/play it, and your Avatar can "journey" into that world and gain that knowledge.

We often sanction campaigns - this means that if you play in another ongoing game, we will give you experience points, because your Avatar has gained experience, wisdom, knowledge from that world, and is now more fully realized in the Nexus.  Our two currently sanctioned Boffer campaigns are Knight Realms and Dystopia Rising.

The in-game mechanic is called journeying - your avatar walks up to a Journey Gate and their essence is whisked off to whatever fantastical world you're sending them into.  They then co-habitate with a "host".  Avatar Dominance levels are something that can be adjusted by the GM - if they're willing to deal with your Avatar breaking through from time to time, they can set the Avatar Dominance at 5.  If they want your Avatar completely in control, they can set it at a 10.  Our sanctioned campaigns are Avatar Dominance 0 games! This means that the Avatar System has ZERO impact on the game. Just like a movie, where it's already been written, acted and edited, and your Avatar cannot affect it, your Avatar does not affect any game without the GM's direct approval and involvement.
