Mobius Rails Highlights
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:50:02 PM »

We haven't done one of these in quite some time, so I figured I'd start up the tradition again. I had a lot of fun this weekend as both characters, and of course it was great to see all of the people again.

-Stran's on his way to being a new ritual-master, and a trusted one at that! From the cleansing ritual on the World of Darkness journey, to being asked for help on something as a result of that journey and more, it looks like he's gonna end up being pretty busy very soon.

-Being incredibly useful on that WoD journey, WITHOUT going into dragon form...see? Totally not a one-trick pony  :P

-Teasing Echo and Jason...don't worry guys, like I told you, if Stran didn't like you, he wouldn't tease you.

-Great dungeon crawl for Winks, especially with getting his special item. Was lots of fun being on a journey with 2 other Lightfoot.

-Winks disappears into a globe of invisibility with the boss wizard of the dungeon, gets possessed by the wizard, and reappears in front of the others. When Carlos asked him what happened he goes "Oh the wizard's dead. Hey look, shinies!" Carlos just goes "that's not Winks, he's never said 'shinies' in his life," and shoots Winks to force the wizard out.

-Great scene between Stran and Echo late Saturday night. Followed by another scene with Cappy and Fox.

-Metroid mission on Sunday, and all of the awesome ridiculousness that occurred. Culminated in Steed, Mallard, and Stran blowing our biggest attacks on Meta-Ridley; and then running like little b*tches when Dark Samus shows up.

See everyone in a month for Lugosicon!

My highlights mostly occurred during the Paranoia game; even though I had written a moderately complicated plot, it was solved by activating a small nuclear device and destroying it all.  Who needs paint when you have explosives?

"It's Paranoia, of course everyone loses."

Amanda: "Can I have that form, Friend Computer?"
Friend Computer: "Absolutely, Citizen.  Please insert your Form Request Form."
Amanda: "Uhm, can I have a Form Request Form?"
Friend Computer: "Absolutely, Citizen.  Please insert your Form Request Form."
Amanda: "Shit."

Amanda's face upon discovering that, after all that, Molly's character got one without any trouble.

"Go to Sector EWF.  On your way, fill out these forms.  You have five minutes.  OOC, this is the LARP part.  To get to that Sector, go to the lobby, touch the front door, and get back.  You have five minutes."  "Huh?"  "Get up and go to the front door of the hotel and come back."  "Uhmmmm."  "Five minutes."  *start timer*

The mutant gun.  Also, Rob's horrified face as the gun swung in nearly a full circle to face him instead of the person it was aimed at.

Note passed to me: "Hooray for not being in the suicide room."  Amanda totally won that game.

All of the best R&D weapons I handed out got utterly destroyed in the nuclear explosion.  After, the players went to R&D and reported that all of the R&D weapons they had been handed had "failed the stress test, the pressure test, the radiation test..." etc.  Nice job, Rob!  Then they announced they needed additional copies of the weapons to continue their testing.

"I can't play that game ever again.  The bureaucracy is too much like my real life."

As usual, however, my favorite part of Paranoia is people arguing with the computer. I don't have an exact quote any more, but most of them went like this:
"But I haven't received that form, Friend Computer!"
"Are you saying that PLC made a mistake, citizen?"
"Uhm, no, Friend Computer, there must have been a Commie Mutant Traitor in PLC."
"Why did you not report this earlier citizen?"
"Uhm...
"Failure to report treason is Treason, Citizen.  Please report to Termination Room 7 for additional interrogation."
"Shit."

Alright so my turn i guess.  The whole con itself was one giant highlight for me everything about was crazy fun.

Shamus getting to loot and kill throughout the whole weekend

Testing out his new toy in the WoD, and boy does it hurt if ya get hit by it.  A Black spiral dancer and a follower of set didnt know what hit them.  Seeing the sun 10 feet from my face was a intresting experience.

So much Loot in the Infiltration mission that Bill J ran.  I think i got like a half of a inch worth of item cards which is never a bad thing.  The scary thing is finnally seeing what some Avatars put out in damage wise and relizing i have to step my game up a bit.

Around the time of Buddahs game i started to get silly from lack of sleep which made invading Philly "Adorable".  Driving a vehicle putting it into Soviet Cruise Control aka a wooden block running to the gunner seat and firing it.  Mack cutting a hole for the tank to get through and me totally ignoring it driving through the wall.  Almost getting another Quantum weapon  but shooting its owner so....What quantum weapon?

Hanging out with everyone and seeing friends again always cheers me up a bit, and thanks to Rob and Molly so i had a place to crash for the night.

Wish i could have gone on the Metroid run but work limited me.  Hope they got atleast something so i can steal it i mean......Find it yeah thats it!

See everyone at Lugosi con!

(remember that each run has a cap on how much item value can be brought back, so even the half-inch of item cards aren't likely to become nexally real when you come home.  This event model isn't intended to replace item makers by ANY stretch.)

Stupid me wrote up this huge post and then accidentally closed the tab. I'll just say for now I had a blast and can't wait for the next one, and I'll do a proper post later :)

Highlight - something going *click* for Carlos, in terms of character development - for a LONG time, I've been looking for a ranged weapon to give him and make him a sharpshooter.

During Diane's run in the abandoned Supers / Tech vault, we find a pile of old / broken items that used to belong to super heroes:  A shattered red, white & blue shield; a green lantern with a bullet hole through it, etc.

Geoff: "Any bows?"
Diane: "There's a Green one, a Red one, a Purple one..."
Carlos: *YOINK!*
(And much to Diane's chagrin, Geoff always preferred Marvel over DC as it was...)

Carlos teaching Bron how to cast spells and use verbal incantations.

The above mentioned shooting of Winks.  Shiny Goblins should be shot as a general principle - this was a "with extreme prejudice" case.  :P

Downtime.  I haven't had any quiet time in a long, long while... not going on a run Sat. morning allowed me to relax and unwind in a way I desperately needed.

It was nice of the hotel to supply us with menus from the nearby restaurants that delivered.  I saw the Wing Bling and had to check it out. They had a nice three way special with chicken wings, ribs & fries.  The ribs n fries were good.  My wings were tough…good flavor though.
The Tech/Terran run was cool.  This was an interesting run as 3 different teams came in to be dropped.  We neglected to tell the home base that we landed safely.  Wound up we were shooting at a bunch of Ares.  When I saw John (Fox) walking down the hall, I asked him ‘Where were you?  If you were there I wouldn’t have had to kill so many Ares’.  It was great having Sebastian take point and following after him.
Went to Bogeys for dinner again.  It seems to be our preferred choice when we game out there.  We got there early enough for me to finally try out the meatloaf.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t all that.  I’ll just stick to the ribs there.
I had forgotten how much I actually enjoy a fantasy run.  Having myself surrounded by Lightfoot helps too.  Great to have Wally playing Winks but Bron just sees him as another Crafty.  If Bron hears him exclaim ‘shineys’, he‘s probably going to shoot him.  Having Carlos teach Bron how to get his powers out was a hoot.  He had to whittle a branch to make himself a wand and then the incantations.  This was getting on his nerves.  He just made up his own lines to get his Electro-Magnetic attack come out as a bolt of lightning‘. ‘Ass and Balls, Balls n Ass’!  Hey, it worked.  Thank some deity that ‘Energize’ worked to transport a deranged Cappy Zoom away for a bit.
I had taken an energy drink in the mid afternoon as I had been having trouble sleeping.  I figured I might fall asleep during a game.  I didn’t sleep Sunday morning.  I walked into the pseudo con suite at around 5:30AM to find Bill & Molly talking.  They laughed as I walked in.  Turns out that they had just finished talking about me.  I didn’t know I was bugging Bill with my ‘They did not say there would be math’, mantra.
I had an omelet at 7AM.  I must’ve been hungry as I wolfed this thing down in less than half an hour.  I’m a slow eater.  I have to thank Diane for taking me to the Rahway train station that morning.  I had my wife pick me up @ the Brooklyn Queens borderline (oddly enough, a few blocks from where I used to work).  The train I would normally take to go home wasn’t working that weekend.  My wife and I are practically attached at the hip.  This was the first time we had been away from each other this long.  She had to work and I went to the con.  We’re going to make up for it though.  Thursday we leave for House of Mouse, Epcot and the Wizardly World of Harry Potter to celebrate our 3rd anniversary.

On a separate note, I know I’ve mentioned this before….., if you have a problem with me, TALK to me.  I know it’s like going up to a cobra and thinking you’re going to get bitten but, if I was that bad, I wouldn’t have that many friends.  I’m not yelling, I’m Puerto Rican.  It’s the way we talk.  If you don’t like something I said, you can pull up your granny panties up higher or take your balls back from whoever is holding them for you.  It’s a dog eat dog world and some of us wear milk bone underwear.  I’m not gonna pull punches nor will I walk on eggshells for you.  I’m as rotten as you make me out to be.  If you think that, just stay out of my way if you can’t come to terms with that.

Ok, now that sleep has ensued and I can think again here we go.

I had an awesome time overall and I'm pretty sure that anything not so good was due to me abusing myself. Thank you all for giving me the dose of real people/friends/sanity I needed. I'm sorry if my whining about things bothered anyone.

The werewolf run was great. And it fed so much plot in to Jason I have no idea where to start.

Started off the bunker run with three people, added two more before we really got going. Then added two more about halfway through and two more right at the end. Never an issue to add people in, it just provided an even bigger run than I thought. Had an awesome time with it, was glad they took the sneaky route cause it could have been bad the other way. Took out Logan in one shot! Damn respawn. I knew Cappy could deal damage, I just never knew it was DAMAGE! That boy killed whole generations of solders. The Lightfoot sneaking across the compound was funny as hell. I have to remember to build my bosses a little better cause these two went down like it was their job.

The dungeon crawl was the first time I've run something like that, but I had fun. Thanks for going easy on me gang. I wish I had put as many traps in as you guys expected. Loved watching Bron try to use magic. The best was in the bat room; "Winks teleports to the other side" Carlos tells Bron to use some long incantation and "Summon Dimension Door" And Winks pops back. So Winks teleports again and Bron tries a shorter incantation, Winks and Val, who had use  Flight to get across, pop back. So Bron gets pissed and yells "ENERGIZE!" and poof!they make it. The end wizard monologue was funny. and it was sweet that he actually stood up to you guys. if he had been able to take Cappy out a bit longer... But Cappy had "Had! Enough! Of you!!!!!!"

Had fun on the Talon 4 run, being the group's "Oh crap!" button through most of it was cool. The no EM refresh was annoying but thanks to Tor's special item, wasn't that big of a deal. didn't end up with anything other than memories out of it but that's ok, cause now I have some really bad ideas....

Oh and all the scenes between Echo and Jason. I wish they hadn't been at 4am so I could have been more awake, but they were great all the same.

Thanks again to everyone who went on my runs or put up with me on theirs. I has a blast. Looking forward to Lugosicon!

First off, these Track 42 events are some of the most fun I've ever had gaming.  Nothing better than jamming a bunch of random friends into a situation and seeing how crazy it gets.

Bills Bunker Game:
-Drop shipping in to Cappy killing everyone and every relative they've ever had.
-Building a walking nuke
-SWAG!

Buddha's C&C game:
-Destroying 4 buildings in 1 shot.
-Photonic Accelerator Cannons
-Apocalypse Tanks
-Devastator Armor
-Everything the Allies tried to use to stop us being "adorable"
-Shamus

Tallon IV:
-FUCKING PHAZON
-Steed cracking all the codes (Thank god for Adam)
-Tor mind woogieing soldiers into giving us their armor
-Telling everyone we should be stealthy and then immediately alerting all enemies to our presence
-Meta Ridley fight, Steed and the Duck melting faces.

Also enjoyed telling Echo that I don't think she should be dating a Werewolf, I will be making "Nexus Twilight" posters for next con, and I will be throwing glitter at people, prepare to hate me.

Diane's Run:

I enjoyed all the back and forth between Tsuki and her trio of companions: Carlos, Bron, and Vince. Also nabbing the egg of the Ammonia Sea leviathan was nice. That egg'll have a great home in Tsuki's territory. Considering Tsuki's history, watching someone else's young die was absolutely not an option.

Also, the prospect of Kitsune Power Armor amuses me on a fundamental level.

My Run:

I felt my run went well. The party was comprised of the perfect mix of houses and genres to maximize success. Between Aiskon's nigh invulnerability, Mack's nigh invulnerability, and Shamus' driving technique, those poor Allied Soldiers didn't stand much of a chance. Especially when Shamus found the Soviet Cruise Control (A block of wood to wedge the gas down with) and switch from the Driver to the Gunner of the Apocalypse Tank's twin 120 cannons. Grade A boom boom, especially once Shamus got some Veterancy under his belt.

I feel the Keyword experiment was a great success. Everyone seemed to be having fun, the simplification of all the new rules onto easy to read and non-threatening card stock smoothed things over, and all in all I feel it was a great run. I enjoyed all the calls the group made to Kapitan "Crazy" Ivan Gregovich to keep him updated on what those plumes of smoke were. Excellent fun by all.

The Syball Run:

Is it possible to overscrew something up? We sure tried, though all in all very fun. Tense moments here and there, and great fun. Next time, we hire a landscaper to deal with the tree while the rest of us finish the mission under the guidelines of "Not Genocide"... way to go, tree. Way to go.

Also, all the new faces were a welcome sight. Good to see new faces and new blood.
