looking for a good fantasy minitures game
« on: November 08, 2010, 11:27:04 PM »

Can anyone recommend a good Fantasy minitures game?  I really like Chronopia, but its hard to get pieces for I find, so its hard to get people into.  I never checked out Warhammer honestly.  I used to play 40K and I just got tired of it.  Is fantasy better?

Jon--

You might want to check out "Warlord" by Reaper Miniatures.  Some of the game stores in the Tri-State area carry them.  You can get almost any mini for that game via their website.

However, I have not personally played the game, so I can't say anything about the play or mechanics.

As the resident wargamer type gal...I have both 40K and fantasy...I have an old fashioned Bretonnian army (before GamesWorkshop gutted it IMO) and newly revived ('bout damned time!) Dark Eldar army.

I say both of those are good...but ask around you might find something not too expensive and fits the bill for fantasy.

Good luck!

Just came across one that rocks very nicely.

ex-illis, we will be having a rep at Dreamation and Damian and I will probably be GMs for the company.

I have two copies already and I know several of my friends will be playing it soon.

I highly recommend it

That does look cool, and I'll have to check it out at Dreamation.  I was looking for something a little more High Fantasy, like I really liked the look of Chronopia's Mini's.

Are you looking to do skirmish level battles or army engagements?

Depends on the cost of figures, but mostly skirmishes.  It'll be easier to get my friends around campus into if it doesn't require a lot of stuff.

I don't know about good but there are several free rule sets available at this site ranging from skirmish to army level.

So after doing some looking I think that Warmachine or Hordes is gonna fit the bill for what I want.  I know there are some people who play warmachine, but is there anyone who plays both and can give me a bit of a run down on the differences/pros and cons?

Dane, it looks like Bastion (the ex illis guys) have let go their staff at this time. Are you guys still planning on showing the game off at Dreamation? Sad that it imploded so quickly after GenCon's debut (though I admit I was not exactly impressed with the need to be online while needing space for a miniatures game).

New Jersey Gamers are going to be at Dreamation and can help you with this. If you aren't planning on attending you can contact them directly at www.njgamers.org. In addition to our conventions they host events at a number of local game stores.
