What Dreams May Come... [East of Everywhere]
« on: May 16, 2011, 03:49:57 PM »

One step. Then another. Then another.

Gabrielle walks through the vastness of Proper not heading for any destination in particular. She can't. If she picks a destination, she'll get there. And then she'll stop walking. She can't stop walking. She has to keep moving. She has to stay awake. Deep shadows and brutal exhaustion have replaced her customarily rosy cheeks and youthful glow. The usually graceful young woman blessed with super speed is now, after uncounted hours, proceeding forward with real difficulty. Her steps are punctuated with halting. trudging, stumbling, tripping over nothing but her own fatigue.

Her eyelids flutter. Even while moving it's getting hard to stay alert. She needs something to focus on. The endless rolling of grassy hills is making her drowsier. To the East, a pillar of light stretches into the heavens. She's too tired to realize what it is. She doesn't really plan to go there; but in focusing on it, she has inadvertently set a course.

Just one more step. Then an other. Ad infinitum.

But before she reaches infinity, she succumbs. The lights are multiplying. The Nexus is spinning. She shakes her head, but it makes it worse. Unable to take another step, she sits down on the ground. Just for a moment. Just so she can catch her... And everything goes sideways with a slide and a thump. Gabrielle looks up, stunned. Her last thought before she passes out  is that she's lying on the ground before the Beacon.

The air a few feet from Echo simmers for a second as Jon Stone slowly walks into full realization.  He'll walk over and kneel next to Echo, combing one hand back through his hair while his other hand goes to Echo's throat to check her pulse.  He then leans over to check her breathing.  Satisfied that shes alive, though barely, Jon looks around to think of his next move.

"She made it to the Beacon on her one, is this a sign to keep her here and safe and wait, or do I take her for some medical treatment?" He thinks to himself.

He sighs, "Oh kiddo,  I hope you didn't do this to yourself.  I know you were upset but you coulda come found me or Yuri or Ashleigh.  Well, I'm here now, you're gonna be just fine." He smiles lightly as he says the last part and rubs her head.

He'll stand and turn to look next to the Beacon.  Slowly the space in Proper warps and twists as shapes take form.  After a few seconds a medical bed, IV's, and a few other tools are sitting there.  Jon will carefully lift Echo onto the bed, and hook her up to an IV to rehydrate her.

"Well Echo, you made it here, and somehow I don't think it was an accident.  Lets see what happens," he'll say before sitting in a chair nearby.

The sound of a wooden staff precedes the appearance of Seneca, where he wasn't before.  He walks up to the bed, examines the drip with a certain uncharacteristic expertise, and then kneels down beside Echo, and closes his eyes.

Eyes still closed, he speaks.  "Of course it wasn't an accident, Doctor Stone.  And neither was your timely arrival.  Random chance is an illusion."

Seneca then puts two fingers to the side of the teen's neck, as if feeling for a pulse.  When the aged hand finds it, the fingers press gently.

He continues to speak, eyes closed.  "She will rest as long as I am with her, but not necessarily peacefully.  She needs to be moved to the cathedral if I'm to do anything more than keep her under.
I think your communications device will work faster than my methods.  Would you please privately contact the Premier, and ask him, as her Head of House, if I may have permission to treat her further?  As there is no spouse of record, I will need his permission, as the head of what amounts to her legal Nexal family."

Having received the urgent communique, Yuri redirects his chronoport from its intended destination, and instead rematerializes at the Beacon. Respect is the only thing that keeps the blink of blue light from threatening to materialize closer then normal. That blink becomes, progressively, a steady light on its own, which then swells into a sphere. The sphere fills with the usual blue mist, which then dissipates and reveals the presence of Yuri, the Premier of the Soviet Union, and his counterpart... the Daughter of Octagon, Esper.

With haste normally unseen he makes his way to Jon, Echo, and Seneca. "How is she?" the Premier asked as he closed the distance to the three of them, dispensing with any form of pre-medical pleasantries. Esper would pad over quicker, and if the bed was low to the ground, would prop herself up to see. If it was too high, she'd outright jump near Echo's legs. "She's not hurt, is she?" the horror of science would ask.

Seneca's eyes open, and he smiles down to Esper.  "No little one.  She's not hurt.  Right now your friend is resting.  Something she hasn't done in some time.  I intend to keep her resting, unless directed otherwise."

He then looks over to Yuri with his ageless eyes, and a solemn mien.  "She's troubled Yuri.  An imbalance in the body, caused by an imbalance in the mind, caused by an imbalance in the soul. Doctor Stone's fluid will rehydrate her, and begin to heal the physical.  With a little luck, my efforts are giving her mind a rest.  But these are exigent treatments.  To make her comfortable, as it were.  I can't begin to determine, or work on any other underlying causes out here, or without your permission, Premier.  That is, unless there is legal next of kin, or a spouse."

"There is neither, that I am aware of." he started after a long moment. He takes a breath... "Seneca, move Heaven and Earth if you have to. If any of my expertise can aid, I'd take offense if you didn't ask." He paused, "I'm not losing anyone else."

He then turned to Jon, "Thank you for calling me so quickly." he then turned back to Seneca, "Keep me appraised of her condition. Her heart I can replace, her mind I can repair. Her soul... that's more your department then mine."

He suddenly felt less social, but had business to attend to. Business everywhere, the life of a Premier. "Come along Esper." he said, and after the kitty gave the slumbering form of Echo a friendly patpat, she hopped off the bed to rejoin Yuri's side.

Seneca nods, touches the girl's neck once more, and then stands up.  "I will do what I can.  Much of it will depend on her.  She has incurred wrath, and owes a debt.  However, She's made her way to a place that deals in such matters.  So her chances for making peace are at an all time high.

Well time to take her inside, then.  Come along if you want, though this is not going to be a short affair.  There's beds though if you want to stay, and always a kettle of soup in the kitchen."

The elder man makes a gesture in the air.  6 wraiths materialize, and take up places around the bed.  They lift it up, and rest it on what would be their shoulders.  The cortege begins the long walk back towards Sanctuary Cathedral.  With Seneca standing in front, in his robes, pacing along on his staff, the whole scene looks unsettlingly like something out of a funeral.

"Believe it or not, I have business that I must attend to. I've put it off for too long, and now seems to be the only time to truly deal with it. Though, I will return immediately." he removes the thick leather glove from one of his hands, and gives her cheek a rare touch with the bare flesh of his hand, before taking his hand back and putting the glove back on. "Be safe." he then looks towards Seneca, gives a nod, then turns to leave.

Jon looks to Yuri, "I'll stay with her.  I saw how upset she was last Gathering.  I should'v stuck closer to her then.  I won't make that mistake again.  I'll contact you when her condition changes."

With that Jon will follow Seneca and the Wraiths.
