I know, its still early to be nitpicking, but I've got a few issues:

First, the intro Flash - very nifty but still took 30 seconds to load on a T1 connection for just a pretty scene.
Second, properly scaled and optimized graphics go a long way -
The DE logo should be scaled to the size it is used at, not shunk in the code, and should have been designed with the black background in mind to begin with to avoid the stepping on the text (looks a bit unprofessional IMHO)
The spinny dice thing is kind of annoying (better than the swirly dots on the old page, but still)
The rainbow color changing line should not be set at 1280 pixels wide.  My monitor isn't that wide.  MOST people's monitors aren't set for that kind of resolution anyway (designing for 1024x768 is a more widely acceptable standard)
Third, (and maybe this is just me) WHY AM I TYPING IN FUSIA?!

Other than that, I like the move.

Actually dude, early is the best time to nitpick, at least as far as I can tell. Rather hear about it once from someone before the entire world sees it then later on down the road, when a complete stranger goes, "Haha, y0or site suxXor" or something like that.

The text color... yeah, of all the spawns of darkness, I hate pink.

Though I do have a single question for the powers that be... Will there be House specific sections set up in the future, or is this something that will have to be handled by each house on a separate forum / system?

It's not pink, it's purple :-)

No, we're not going to set up house-specific boards here. Considering how many players regularly jump from house to house or are at least involved in so many houses, it would seriously clutter up the forum. BUT, that's what topics are for. Just start a house topic in either OOC or IC - note that a single topic can be infinitely long and is basically the same as what you had on a yahoogroup!

You broke being able to default the posting text to black?  Crikey.

I'll post more oddities as I find them...  ::)

I know a lot of forum software allows for templates.  Does this one?  The neon colors on black are nicely legible, but they rather yell to the rafters "HELLO!  I AM NOT A WORK-RELATED SITE!!!"

It might be nice to have a template choice built in so that users can choose something stripped down for slow systems / browsing during lunch at work and then save the pretty for the home systems.

I have to admit, though, the first thing I did was use AdBlock to hide the spinny dice.  I'm not fond of things that try to drag my eyes away from what I'm trying to read.  The Marquee button and the animated smilies in the posting screen may well go next.

I'm also going to have to remember to bookmark dexposure.com/home.html because, as pretty as the swaying grass is, I don't need to wait a minute and a half for it every time I want to check the site.

Jenny, there is no need to be overly sarcastic. It was meant to be a one-time introduction, and there is a bypass link at the top of it. I have no idea why it takes 90 seconds to load for you; my average at 4 different sites is 15 seconds.

Vinny, I wasn't being sarcastic at all.  The splash page flash animation did take a minute and a half to load for me from a clear cache at work (it loads faster after it's in memory).  At home, just now, it clocked in at thirty seconds.  Since I am most likely to visit the main site to quickly check a convention date or something else along those lines, it makes more sense for me to bookmark the main page rather than the splash page, just as I'll likely bookmark the forums page rather than clicking through the main page (saves a click or two).

Animated gifs do, in fact, distract me when I am reading a site, although I do appreciate that other people quite like them, which is why I changed some customized settings on my browser rather than suggesting they be removed or anything.

The idea of templates for the forum was also serious.  The other two forums I visit frequently do have a template choice funtion, and are powered by two different software packages, so I was under the impression it's a fairly common functionality.  It would be useful for people who are allowed to do personal browsing from work but don't necessarily want to be obvious about it.  For example, I work in a bullpen, and the neon-on-black is clearly visible from three other workstations.  Generally, on my other forums, I use the plainest template available to avoid being obvious about my personal browsing on breaks. At home, I use whatever's prettiest.

Sylvia,

If you or anyone else makes private adjustments for your own viewing, more power to you. It is when you make a public point of having to do with a great show of displeasure that it becomes an issue. Obviously, I was expecting people to bookmark the home page, not the index page. Your exact statement of "not wanting to wait a minute and a half every time you visit the site" was indeed sarcastic.

As for different views, yes, this package DOES allow for different views, but I have that feature turned off - the forum was carefully designed with a Double Exposure look and feel, and I want to keep it that way. Allowing people to use their own views is akin to having someone walk into DEXCON with their own games because the ones we offer aren't good enough for them.

Vinny, really, this is not an attack, and the "minute and a half" remark was a specific technical issue. When I first visted, the bypass link was not visible against the black page background.  The new link is much better, thank you.

Thank you for answering the question about the forum templates.  It is certainly reasonable to want a consistent branding approach.

Regarding the template issue - you may not be aware that templates for forums actually change everything from top to bottom - including logos; that's great for a user-run fan site, but not for a corporate forum with brand recognition :)
