Sanctuary Beacon

[Hyran]  "Now I understand why Bron doesn't even try anymore... Everything is fine.
Kaneda here was just telling me what a terrible person I am, and that I
should have left witnesses for him to interrogate. He also happened to ask
if I were 'somehow able to work miracles that are beyond the kin of gods.' "

The hunter nods, "remember, it took some time before I trusted you ... we all have preconceived notions of one another - it takes time for someone to see what lies beneath the exterior." He looks Kaneda up and down and then turns his attention to the manifestation.

[Sarah]  A lazy point towards the Crafty statue and the box of angst sitting near its feet. "That needs dealing with, but is more than one being can shoulder, unless it is his burden to carry.  One Chaplain, or one hero, or one Hunter cannot carry it for her without help."

"So you are saying there is something we can do to help her?"

"So Milady, what exactly do a holywarrior, a hunter and supposed hero have to do with yonder box. And how will that help Arwen?' the Chaplain looking form those on the hill to the Box by the statue.

Standing the chaplain stretches and starts walking towards the box to inspect it.

As Soshi approaches the silver statue of Crafty, a brief shimmer of transporter sparkle is seen in the vicinity of its outstretched paw. When the transporter effect is over, there are five fresh chocolate chip cookies sitting on it.

Maybe forty feet past the statue, a faint shimmer (heat haze, perhaps) might be noted if one were looking past the statue and toward the Temple of Sanctuary.

At Soshi's words, 'supposed hero,' Hyran's impudent grin fades slightly. "I've been demoted already. It's a good thing I never wanted to be a hero, or I might have been disappointed."

He steps toward the box at the Statue of Crafty, drawing a blaster pistol. "Did I correctly hear you say you were unarmed?"

> He steps toward the box at the Statue of Crafty, drawing a blaster pistol. "Did I correctly hear you say you were unarmed?">

"Firstly, you were never demoted. Heroes are creatures of great deeds not great verbosity, they do not make grievous errors and when they do they accept responsibility. I am still not sure you are truly that well meaning and inept." responds the Chaplain.
Continuing without pause, "AS far as I can tell you are at best an arrogant bungler and at worst an wrongdoer who hides behind a facade of incompetence. Therefore, if you are the hero that Milady claims, it is time you acted like one.”

“Secondly,  I am a man of God, Jedi. But my god has not the time to waste with those who use Oxygen to extol their deeds while there is work to be done; now if you will excuse me, I must inspect this box." With that the Chaplain bends down to visually inspect the Box before proceeding further.

(OOC: what does it look like?).

"Oh and if you happen to see the Otter whom this Statue is of, I would like to speak to him. As much as it is a rarity, I believe you were right about the Otter. It was unnecessary to insult one who was not available to defend themselves and even worse to demean their status. I do not assume that others are evil because they are different or have different methods, I prefer to watch the results of their actions."

"Oh and yes, I am unarmed. I do not carry weapons or armor when I am within the Nexus Proper and I definitely do not carry them on holy ground unless it is an absolute necessity. With the Lady standing here I am pretty sure it is not a necessity."

With that Kaneda stands up and proceeds to walk around the box so as to inspect it from all sides.

He then looks to Sarah, and asks "Too much of a burden for one to carry? Was that figuratively or literally. And boxes are designed to secure things, is this a case of securing what is within from getting out, or keeping what is out from getting within?"

Seneca chuckles from the not far away steps of Sanctuary Cathedral.  The aged esper ambles over on his walking stick,  he goes right up to Crafty's graven image, and mutters a few words under his breath.  Taking a proferred, cookie he nibbles on it, while looking at Kaneda, over the rim of his glasses.

"'Man of God', do you actually think you rate protection?  How do you know that you have not already set yourself against the natural order of things, and the designs of your deitiy?  No.  Don't answer that.  Just be aware that the 'holy ground' starts at the door of the cathedral.  The Starseeker may have his way with you, untill you cross *its* threshold.  Now be a good 'man', and go help yourself to a cookie."

Putting his back to Kaneda, Seneca then moves onto Hyran, and Sebatsian.

"Hello Jedi, Hunter.  Nice to see you again.  What brings you to our home?"

Kaneda, does not even bother to look up at the evangelist, but merely keeps watching the Box. He does take a moment to reflect, then announces, "How interesting a preacher who condones violence on ground that may be holy to others while claiming to represent knowledge of another’s god. So tell me preacher man, how many of your brethren have you said sacraments over while they died fighting to stem the tides of Darkness. How many days have you sat vigil as the beasts of Chaos pounded at the very doors of your sanity. Did you come to this place, by having your entrails removed by the hand of Daemon, while watching as your brothers die. So, please save your pontificating for one who has time, I neither asked nor need your wisdom. At the least, I must respect the Jedi for doing what he believes must be done, not sitting in a sanctuary coming out only proselytize to those who are doing the works of God. Oh and enjoy treats, so did you come to help or merely to feed yourself cookies?”

Sighing, he continues before interruption, “If I seem a bit short, maybe it is because everyone seems to know what is best or everything that needs to be done. Yet, all I see is a lot of standing around pontificating (OOC: Word of the Day, I just love the way it sounds) and Arwen is still in that Beacon thing.  Now, we can all stand around getting fatter by eating cookie after cookie” eyeing the preacher, “or we can attempt to save a fellow.”

“As for the “Jedi”, if he is willing to shoot an unarmed foe in the back then that proves what I charged was correct and the fact that you encourage him “Father” makes me wander about your holiness.”

Standing up the Chaplain declares, “I will turn around if it will make you less queasy than shooting me in the face. I fear few things, and death is not among them.” With that he looks at the group with a cockeyed smile and asserts, “And they shall know no fear, for they are devout in their faith”.

Kaneda returns to watching the red lightning criss-cross the face of the box, “Hunter, what do you know of this Box any ideas as to what its purpose is and what needs to be done with it. I admit, my first inclination when confronted with something of this nature is to consecrate it, bury it in a very deep heavily sealed vault, and call in the Inquisition to sanitize its history. However, I do not think that is the correct solution. What say you?”

Glancing back over his shoulder, Seneca remarks in an unemotional,  matter of fact tone. "Idiot.  They do not bang on doors of anyone's sanity.  At least not without prior invitation.  I spelled those rules out *very* clearly, when I created them.  Truly, if a Daemon was ripping out your intestines, then we applaud a noble sacrifice, to feed a starving childe.  Curtsy while that sinks in, and you are thinking how to snidely reply.  You'll save time."

Turning back to face Hyran, Seneca continues  "Whyever does Arwen need rescuing?  She is as safe there, as anywhere.  She's receivng the finest care, and probably learning the most interesting things about herself."

"Yes, I forgot, you wrote the rules on how gods and Daemons exist. And that is why you are here instead of out in the multiverse redesigning whole galaxies." Kaneda laughs, "So Preacher man since you wrote all the rules in your majic little book, come over and do something with this box or maybe blink your eyes and make Arwen all better. Or is that outside of your grand plan, or maybe you only wrote the rules in regards to feeding yourself cookies?"

'Regardless, unless one of you has a solution, I would rather contemplate how to solve this situation in silence than listen to your grandiose messianic delusions. I except of course those that have been working on the problem, and not trying to flatter the rest of us with their greatness."

Finally, turning to Sarah (unless the Hunter interrupts with a possible solution strategy or other advice) the Chaplain inquires, "What is the purpose of this Box and what are we to do with it?"

(OOC - Do please ignore my post on the other thread when I thought that you were really in some random part of the Nexus... I'll restart my actions here)

From behind Seneca, whether noticed appearing or not, steps a young boy, apparently of around age sixteen or seventeen.  He is dressed in a long blue robe, simple in appearance.  His long hair, forest green in color, is slicked down with sweat, as if he had very recently been practicing.  As he steps to Seneca's side, his jet black eyes focus and narrow on Kaneda.

From somewhere, within his robes, or from out of no where, appears in his hand a small, immature rose, topped with a small bud of almost indeterminate color.  "I suspect, sir, that somewhere, a woman weeps over the death of a husband, at the invoked name of 'Chaos'.  A child has lost a father.  And you have lost your reason."  His voice is deep and cool, with the measured sound of someone in a trance.

"So, Arwen-san is now the one within the great Beacon.... Hai, Seneca-san is correct.  She is now likely learning so much more than she could ever want to.  The solution is clear, though, if you want her back quite so badly.  The Beacon cannot remain empty.  Also, I note that, by your own words, your god is an impatient one."  The young man's lips turn toward the barest of smiles.

"Impatience is something that gods should never have.  Especially if they send servants here to the Nexus.  This place is timeless, and if you do not know that already, then I think you need to learn to rise above the knowlege of yourself.  It sounds to me that you are merely a Neophyte here, standing in the presence of those who know more.  Yet you spit upon wisdom.  Not the wisest of actions indeed."

Sarah interrupts Soshi.  "Quiet, you wretched being."

Her eyes spark in annoyance - nay, downright Fury.  "You are a _guest_ in  Seneca's home, and as such, you shall hold a civil tongue in your head or I shall remove it from you by force.  Very slowly and quite gleefully."

Her words crackle.  "As you seem to be too set on hating Hyran for subtlety, I will spell it out quite clearly.  Arwen needs help processing the anger and hatred in her heart - her very soul is trying to reject it - or to embrace it so completely as to be lost entirely to herself."  She glances around the group, from person to person.

"You may _serve_ Arwen by being polite, civil and helpful, Unless you choose to reject the assistance of these assembled and wish to attempt the task of sorting through these pieces of Arwen on your own.  As a 'man of god', I am _certain_" the word drips with venom " that you have enough arrogance and pride to try."

She glowers at him. "Your choice, Chaplain."

Hyran, still with a grin, responds to Soshi. "You still have no idea of the Nature of this Place, yet still offer your 'never wrong' opinions. First, this Domain of Sanctuary is under the guardianship of Seneca of Citadel, a Warrior Monk, among other things. Violence on these grounds is not prohibited, and sometimes quite welcome. Second, the statue is not of Cutthroat, but of his father Crafty, a being completely and utterly dedicated to peace. Third, this blaster is not meant to shoot you, but for your own use. You will not attempt to carry another person's burdon unless you are willing to protect it. I have the Force, and no need for such crude weapons."

From the shadows behind a nearby tree, a darker shadow emerges, with stars glittering in his fur. The otter known as Cutthroat becomes more visible as he steps from the shadows, holding his weapon at port arms. He speaks, his voice clear and full of anger. "I challenged you once, Soshi Kaneda. You ran away. You continue your unmitigated slander of Hyran, based on an incomplete story you pieced together from preconceived notions of what you think a Lightfoot should be. An assassin, a betrayer, a murderer that is untrustworthy. They are all wrong. You are new here, and I gave you leeway last time. I make you this promise now. If you utter another insult to, or about, anybody here, I will shoot you dead, before the words die on the air. You, Sarah, nor anybody else here will stop me. Do you understand?"

The scent of jasmine fills the air overpowering in a clinging choking way. Tearing into the fabric of the Nexus a small flower floats down and lands at Soshi's feet. A small delicate daisy, perfect in its simplicity of design.

Another flower floats down in front of Cutthroat a small yellow tea rose…tiny petals blooming as it lands on the grass at the otter's feet.

A whirlwind of daisies blanket the area and then out of the clear blue falls a anvil-shaped rock barely missing the cardboard box.

Majickal lettering carved on the rock focuses so all can read the simple phrase...

ALL BEHAVE NOW.

A small daisy chain floats down upon the neck of the statue and as suddenly as they started it stops.

The Chaplain turns toward the godling with the calm look of the dead, and exclaims, "Well, since I am such a wretched being, I am obviously not worthy of such august company and not necessary to its endeavors. Enjoy yourselves. As for the Mustelidae let it shoot me, I could care less. It only proves my earlier point that you are here to sabotage Arwen’s existence, not that it matters."

With that the Chaplain reaches into his robes removes Father FrigEmAll’s bomb, which he gently lays on the ground next to the flower, turns and walks away from the Beacon Hill off into the ether, whistling a tune very similar to La Campanella.

OOC - dammit, my post got eaten!

{Bill}  OOC: Can we try to limit this to one post per day folks? Not everybody lives at their computers...

†  OOC:  Honestly!

{Kaneda}  "Oh and yes, I am unarmed. I do not carry weapons or armor when I am within the Nexus Proper and I definitely do not carry them on holy ground unless it is an absolute necessity. With the Lady standing here I am pretty sure it is not a necessity."

†  "An unwise decision," replies Sebastian, "I know not how your enemies operate, but mine have no qualms about attacking anyone on holy ground if given the opportunity."

{Seneca}  "Hello Jedi, Hunter.  Nice to see you again.  What brings you to our home?"

†  The Citadel simply grunts a brief greeting as his attention moves between the items mentioned by Sarah and the Tocsin

Kaneda returns to watching the red lightning criss-cross the face of the box, “Hunter, what do you know of this Box any ideas as to what its purpose is and what needs to be done with it. †  "I do not deal in magic, but I do know not to meddle in things I do not understand without frst gaining some understanding of the situation.  Talk all you want of dying for your cause ... but doing so without an understanding of why is a fool's quest ... and your constant gibbering has given me enough reason to believe you are such a fool.  Now I suggest you remain quiet long enough for us to gain some useful information."

†  Sebastian turns his attention to Sarah, bowing his head briefly before speaking, "milady ... what is it we can do to assist in returning Lady Arwen to her former state?  I understand that you are trying to get us to work together, but ... " he motions toward the Chaplain, " ... I am sure you understand how difficult this makes the situation."
