I liked the N64 Zeldas, and still play them, however, the best Nintendo only franchise is the THQ WWF/WCW series.

I STILL have No Mercy for N64, and play it a bunch, along with the 2 Day of Reckoning titles on Gamecube (The reason I bought the system.)

Ok you got the slack...then again the con chair Tiny (my husband) is dyslexic as well...in fact a lot of the staff is. And yes I still edit his stuff...at least when he is nearby to let me do it.

I'm sorry I used to correct legal language and it drives me up the wall sometimes when spelling issues aren't caught.

My apologies in advance.

I went for Metroid all the way! I get so drawn into it more than any series ever. The levels whether 2d or 3d are as intricate as they were in the 8-bit days, the music is haunting and mood-fitting, it just flat out kills anything else in my book (next to Grandia that is. Nothing beats Grandia).

Metroid. The greatest series ever made. The first freeform 'explorer-type' game. A game so special, that - for 15-some years - Nintendo only made one Metroid game per console... and sometimes not even then (there was no "Metroid 64", much to my dismay... could have saved the console...). And now that Retro Studios is in on it... awwwww, yeah.

In order of preference on original hardware:

Honors:
1. Super Metroid (for superior re-playability [I put this on the Big Screen every chance I get!], perfect play-control, over-the-top A/V, and faithfulness to the original concept)
2. Metroid Prime (for Retro's mind-blowing work, and for proving that FPS-games don't have to be shoot-em-ups)
3. NES Metroid (for starting the whole genre, for introducing the idea of female heroes in video-games, for creeping the crap out of me when I was a kid - mainly due to Hip Tanaka's music, and for "JUSTIN BAILEY              ")

Honorable Mentions:
4. Metroid Zero Mission
5. Metroid Fusion
6. Metroid II: Return of Samus

Haven't played any of the games newer than Prime, so they're not in my rankings. Yet.
