This is of course assuming that you're trying to get people's opinions on the multiplayer aspect.  In that case perhaps a simpler comparison would be team-based vs classic run-and-shoot FPSs.

For myself, I suck at team play Smiley

Way back when (wow, over half a decade now) the FPS comparisons had a lot more meat to them.  Discussions of Unreal Tournament vs Quake 2/3 vs Half-Life were all about the graphics, weapons, and technology behind it.  It was also the beginning of Counter Strike, when things were still very beta.  Other realism-based mods were around, but this was one of the first to add a real team element.

Depends on my mood.  If I feel like being frustrated by being killed off in 10 seconds cuz I suck, Counter Strike.  If I feel like being a rat in maze with a gun, Half Life.  CS was definitely my favorite way back when I didn't suck  Grin
