[Point Jedi] Smoke signals...
« on: March 16, 2006, 10:55:11 AM »

ooc reminder: not just anyone can find the Point- those of you who have been there before canstill do so; new visitors... can be found while they wander the forest *grin*

The area known as Point Jedi was overgrown.

With no activity in many moons, the grasses and brush of the Great Forest set out to reclaim the ground.  Lush tall grasses covered the encampment meadow, the lean-tos still standing (a testament to their construction) but very abandoned.  Trails were very thin and nearly gone, the ground regenerating itself to repair the damage booted feet had done.  The few roads in the area were in a similar state, the last vestiges of jeep and AFV tracks nearly faded away from weather effects.

The area near the water had only started to regrow brush, being as cleared as it was originally.  The portal stone sat, the glow a low aura inside and slightly pulsing as if it lived.

As night fell, the portal began to come to life, the glow growing stronger.  As it returned to its original brightness, it flared once and opened to reveal a cliffside over looking a valley.  Stepping from the other side was Tarkin, much older looking and clad in black fatigues.  Saber hanging from his hip, he looked around from the Rock and simply nodded.  Turning back to the portal, he waved and a group of troops followed him.

All of them had blasters of some sort, either carbines slung accross backs or pistols on hips.  Each carried boxes or guided a grav-lifter with crates.  Directing them to spots around the shoreline, he quietly issued orders as to where to put the gear.

Crates set down, boxes placed near the shelter, the troops retreated back for the portal.  The last of them paused near the Jedi.  "Are ye sure ye want to be back here?"

"Yes... I am sure."  A pause then a smile.  "At least for the time being.  Its enough for me to see what has transpired in the time I have been gone... and its not like I cannot return, Killian."
"Very true, lad...  very true."  Killian replied.  "I know ye'll be back-  Calli would have something to say if ye don't..."
"Boy will she..." Tarkin laughed.  "But then, there is very little that could keep me from her in either direction."  Taking the mans hand he gave it a shake.  "See to the Academy on the other side my friend..." He said.  "I intend on being back before the boys return from Sercin.  Don't let Miranda boss you around while I am gone.  Just cause she is my daughter..."

Laughter...  "Oh aye;  She'll not be getting away with anything with you an' Calli gone.  Hal-ri can handle her just fine; she managed your wife at her bossiest, as you will recall; there is nothing a twelve-year-old is going to pull on her, no matter who her parents are...  And I have Caleb for help when he's not busy."
"Good... I know you'll be fine then," Tarkin said.  "Get going... I've some stuff to do and grounds to get re-aquainted with."
A nod.  "Very well, my friend.  See you in a bit..."  Killian said and stepped through the Portal.

Tarkin concentrated and reset the portal safeguards, noting they were intact from the original binding- though a touch weaker.  Nodding to himself, he turned and began to clean up his living spaces on the clearing, pausing only to set up a fire in the firepit to give the site a bit of warmth and light as he worked.

The pair of guardian badgers silently watch the activity from hiding, though the kitchen shows some evidence of recent visitation.

A polite cough can be heard, somewhere just off to the other side of the fire from Tarkin. Cutthroat waits, otherwise quietly, for Tarkin to notice his arrival...

Tarkin continues arrainging matrial pulled from a crate (some sort of machinery) but acknowledges the otter.  "Long time no see, Cutthroat... how are you and how is Hyran?"

Cutthroat solemnly slings a cookie toward Tarkin, waiting for the recently returned Avatar to eat it, before speaking.

"Hyran is in a repeating Death Loop in the Beacon. Arwen gave in to her anger and went to the Dark Side, though she has many people fooled. The Council formally disbanded the NDF, leaving the people with no protection. More and more people are simply vanishing, kidnapped or permanently killed by Chaos Wolves. Every prediction made by the Future Badgers is beginning to come true."

Pausing to take the cookie, he looked it over and then took a bite.  "MMM... good as usual, Cutthroat."  TK'ing a rock big enough to sit on, he moved it within reach and set upon it.  "Cutthroat..." He said. "Before I address the fallen Padawan issue, tell me what and how my brother wound up in a loop in the beacon.  Sounds like it was not a happy choice or a willing one for him to make...  Not at all."

He looks a touch tired as he tosses a log into the fire, which flared up readily..  "As for the Fallen, she will be dealt with in due time..."

Fixing the smallest (in his memory) Lightfoot with a critical eye, he asked, "One more thing...  what exactly was that prophecy?  If you don't know, the two guards over there likely do..."  He inclines his head toward teh two badgers.

Cutthroat scampers closer after Tarkin takes a bite of the cookie. "He went in there to find out how to stop death in the Nexus, and Sarah said it was built by the Chaos wolves as a trap. Now he keeps dieing over and over again, but he doesn't know it is a trap. As for the Future Badgers, well, they told us that the Nexus was going to be destroyed, as one Avatar after another disappeared."

"I see..." He said as he finished the cookie.  "Has anyone tried to remove him from the trap?  What was done and when... so I may see what not to try."  He gets back up to finish emptying the crate of gear.  "I would not like repeating already attempted failed efforts..."  A pause.  "And has Bron Price tried, to your knowledge?  It would not be like him to allow one of the few he truely trusted of his house to be held in such fashion..."

"Bron tried Radiation, and he also poked it with a stick. I wanted to shoot at it with FAITH, but Sarah said not to. The Badgers MacGregor agree that it is a Manifestation Grade Force Field."

The otter's eyes glitter as he tries to remember a clue he is forgetting. "Sarah knows something about this. She said she could explain what 'little death' was."

Tarkin smiled at the comment about FAITH and teh strength of the field..  "Indeed...  Ironic Sarah said not to; if it is indeed a Manifestation Grade field, FAITH would not harm it.  However if you are cautioned against it..."  He trailed off, letting the thought sit there for the otter to pick up upon it.  He would not tell the marksman what to do.

"As for clues and explanations, I imagine there is much to be had in that department."  The Jedi's demeanor darkened slightly.  "For a great many things..."

The crate empty, Tarkin began to assemble the various parts.  First the frame and connectors were put together then what looked like a generator core was set inside the frame.  As he tightened down bolts, he asked.  "What of Sebastian?  Is the Hunter still among the Living or has he gone away as well..."

Moving to the smaller portions of the generator, he continued.  "He is not without resources to help... neither is Aiskon or Steed."  A pause as he recalled something.  "Speaking of the good Doctor, is he still making like a vegetable or has he come out of his coma?"

The otter sadly shakes his head. "Steed is not in a coma, that was merely a coverup for his kidnapping. He too is held by the Chaos Wolves. Sebastian still walks among us, but his odd accent is back, he may have been gotten to. Aiskon is still here, but..."

The otter shrugs his shoulders, as though to state his uncertainty about Aiskon's loyalties. "As for Sarah, she has eaten cookies, she can be trusted. Lysandar has been scarce lately, I wonder if the Chaos Wolves have been able to take him over."

The little Avatar's brow furrows in thought. "You don't suppose it was a Fleming that was impersonating Sarah, do you? That would explain a lot of things. I will shoot her the next time I see her. A Manifestation won't be hurt, but an Avatar will. It was probably that pesky Eve, she is always up to something. Did you know she once gave out poisoned cookies?"

Tarkin stood up and summoned a smaller crate to him as he looked at the Lightfoot Otter.  "I see... multiple kidnappings.  And I was trusting in you to keep things in line."  He sighed slightly.  "I will have to see about finding him- I have an idea where to start but it will require a bit of time, diplomacy and finding that thrice-damned communicator."

"I would not worry about Sebastian; his accent was there when I left and it was still him.  If he hasbeen taken, I will know once I see him- very little hides from the Force and imposters are generally found... when one is allowed to check for them."  He set the newly arrive crate down and began to pull more parts and a powercell out of it.  "As far as a fleming impersonating Sarah, it is possible.  From what I recall.... a Fleming would also pass the cookie test if they were in Deep Cover.  However, some things they cannot resist/defend against... and that is Faith."  A smile.  "Should you drop Sarah, you will know it was not her- a Manisfestation would resist, I should think."

"But to be on the safe side, give it your best most powerful shot- just in case it is a Fleming with a really strong set of shields..."  Tarkin finished mounting the powercell and stepped over to a second pile of boxes and tubes.  He pulled oven these and began to set up a series of light towers.  "I suggest you remember your shooting hat; it would not be good if not having it caused you to miss..."

Finishing up the two towers in this pile, he moved them into place on the outskirts of the shoreline clearing, with one facing in such a way to give the landing pad some illumination.  "I do require a small favor of you, Cutthroat; if you would find where Arwen hides Lacuna nowadays, it would be greatly aiding my efforts to bring her back into the light."  Glancing over at the old bikeshed he sighed.  "And one other thing... please tell me where my speederbike went.  It was here when I last was."

Cutthroat looks indignant. "Well, *I* certainly didn't take your speederbike. And I was keeping things in line as best I could. The Forces of Chaos are just too much for one otter to handle. That is why we had the NDF. And now, it is gone."

Tarkin smiled.  "I know you didn't Cutthroat; you do not steal from friends...  However, I should think the watchers over there who think themselves hidden might know."

Turning he waved at them.  "You can come out," He called.  "I've a question for you and I rather not shout..."

Two badgers emerge from their carefully hidden positions in the overgrown outskirts of the camp, and begin heading toward the pair of Avatars. As they do, the sling their plasma rifles for easier carrying, but still remain alert for trouble.

Cutthroat munches another cookie, from the plate of cookies that somehow found its way next to him.
